Chapter 166 A Memorial For Mrs Anderson
"Please tell me my mother is okay?" Angela said with tears streaming down her face.
Bryce nodded to Martin to give them some privacy. Martin just nodded and exited the study, closing the door behind him.
Angela walked up to Bryce and held the front part of his shirt with both hands. She stared into his eyes with tears and a pain so deep inside her heart.
"Please, what happened to my mother?" she cried in pain.
"I am sorry, Angela," Bryce began, and more tears streamed down Angela's face.
She withdrew her hand from Bryce and staggered backwards.
"I am not sure what happened, but Matilda took her life before I could get to her," Bryce said.
"No, no, she was all I have left in this world as a mother," Angela cried and ended up sitting on the floor.
Bryce drew closer to her and also sat on the floor, dropping his crutches to the side. He reached for Angela and pulled her into his arms.
"Where did you keep her?" Angela asked, wanting to see Mrs Anderson for the last time.
"Angela, there are no remains," Bryce said, not sure how to explain to Angela that Matilda liquified Mrs Anderson's body with a strange machine.
"What do you mean, there are no remains? How do you know she is dead then?" Angela asked, raising her head to stare at Bryce's face above her.
"She was," Bryce began and didn't know what to say next.
"Mrs Davis did something terrible to Mrs Anderson's body?" Angela asked as she stared at Bryce, and he just nodded to that.
It was easier than telling her, Mrs Anderson's body had been liquified. Angela rested her head on Bryce's chest and began to weep bitterly. Bryce wrapped his arms around her and allowed her to cry. She needed to let the pain out.
After a while, Angela had no more tears to cry. She just rested in Bryce's arms as they both remained seated on the floor inside the study.
Martin, upon exiting Bryce's study, left the apartment entirely after informing Zora he was going to pick up some supplies for the house.
He went to the police station and met with the officer who had helped them in the arrest of Matilda and George. The chief remained the head of the central police station because he quickly covered his tracks when Bryce brought the Davis family down. He knew Bryce was onto Susan, and if he found Susan out, he would be next, so he cleared everything that would link anything to him.
With the new evidence presented, Mr Adams's murder case was reopened discreetly, and the new evidence was followed to confirm if that was true.
Meanwhile, Susan has been processed to appear in court. Devon went to visit her in her withholding cell.
"I told you to leave, but you were too stubborn to. Now see where you are," Devon said, sounding angry.
"I was misled by the news. I thought Bryce was going to be distracted by the news," Susan cried. "Please get me out of here. I don't want to go to prison," she cried.
"The chief has refused to help us. The only way to help you now is to wait till you are sent to prison. We can organise a breakout on the way to the prison," Devon said.
"Okay," Susan replied, feeling that it would work. "Do you know how the transporting is done?" she asked just to be sure.
"Yes, I have an idea from when Angela was transported. I will have someone positioned to launch an attack. I would create a diversion, and someone would hide you at the scene. No one would look for you at the scene of escape. Once they all leave, you will come out and leave," Devon said.
"How are you going to hide me at the scene of escape?" Susan asked with a frown, finding the plan to be ridiculous.
"We will destroy the police cars that would be escorting the police van that would be transporting you. In the heat of the commotion, you will be sneaked out of the police van and into one of the car boots of one of the destroyed police cars. No one would ever think you are hiding there. Someone dressed like you will sit in one of the police cars and drive out of the scene. They will follow, thinking it's you. You will come out of the car boot and use the car I would have secured for you, and you drive away in the opposite direction. There will be someone waiting to transport you out of the city in a helicopter. By the time they catch up with the car they are chasing, you will be long gone," Devon explained.
"Okay," Susan acknowledged, seeing it was a perfect escape plan.
"I just came to see you and let you know this. So when it happens, you will be fully aware," Devon said, and Susan just nodded.
The next day was her court hearing, which would lead to her sentence. This only means she would spend one more night in the withholding cell, and she would have her freedom through her father's escape plan.
Devon left the police station and headed for the office. He needed to take care of a few things at the office. Business had become very slow with Bryce leaving the company. Don Entertainment terminated the partnership and is now on its own.
Back at Bryce's place, Angela was lying in bed with Zora sitting next to her while Bryce sat on the chair inside the bedroom. Zora had come to look for Angela and found her and Bryce sitting on the floor. She found out what was happening and suggested taking Angela to the bedroom to lie down.
"We can't have a burial service for her, but I will host a memorial service for her and create a small grave next to her husband's. At least have a place to visit," Bryce said, and Zora nodded, sitting next to Angela, who appeared to be numb.
Later in the evening, when Martin had returned, he informed Bryce he had reopened Mr Adams's murder case, and Devon would be picked up soon.
"How soon?" Bryce asked, standing in front of his bedroom door with Martin.
"Maybe tomorrow, or the day after," Martin replied.
"Okay," Bryce acknowledged. "We will have a small memorial service for the late Mrs Anderson. It's just going to be us. Get an urn and fill it with what you can of Mrs Anderson. We will bury that next to her husband," he instructed, and Martin nodded.
The night slowly passed, and the sun came up on the new day. While Bryce, Martin, Angela and Zora held the memorial service for Mrs Anderson, Susan was in court.
The court session was over, and Susan was sentenced to prison. She was not bothered because she knew she was never going to prison. Everything was done, and Susan headed to the place where she would be put into the police van and transported to prison. At the same time, Angela, Bryce, Zora and Martin were on their way to the cemetery to bury the urn containing Mrs Anderson's liquified remains.
Devon was at the court, and he saw Susan being taken away. He assured Susan with his eyes that everything was under control. He stepped out of the courtroom and moved to the place where Susan was being put into the police van to be taken away. He knew it was time to alert his men to be ready and give them the details of the police van transporting Susan. He pulled his phone out and started walking towards his car, but before he could dial anything on his phone, three officers approached him.
"Mr Devon Moore, you are under arrest, for the plotting and murder of the Late Mr and Mrs Adams. You have the right to remain silent," the officer said to the surprise of Devon as they put a cuff on him.
"What the hell are you talking about?" Devon questioned, his heart racing.
He didn't see this coming. Susan, on the other hand, was happy waiting to be busted out of the police van. Devon was put into a police car heading for the station.
Susan remained in the police van. After a couple of minutes' drive. The van stopped, and Susan smiled. She was waiting to hear the gunshots and the commotion outside, but nothing happened. The back of the van was rather open, and an officer's face came into view.
"Get out," he ordered, and Susan stood up.
She got down from the back of the van and realised they had arrived at the prison gate. She felt dizzy immediately, wondering what had happened. She was supposed to be escaping, not walking through a prison gate.
