Chapter 139 Eva's Death - Part 1

Chapter 139 Eva's Death - Part 1

Angela slowly opened her eyes. Her head ached terribly. She squeezed her face and tried to figure out where she was, but her vision was a bit blurry. She rubbed her eyes to clear them, but was greeted by a familiar voice, which made her tense up immediately. She quickly scanned her environment again, and her gaze fell on Zora walking towards her. She realised she was in a bed and in an unfamiliar environment. She quickly shifted her gaze back to Zora with a frown, wondering if it was real or if she was dreaming.

"Angela," Zora called out to her.

"Zora, is it you?" Angela asked and rubbed her eyes before looking again.

"It's me. I am here," Zora said and sat on the side of the baby, staring at Angela. "How are you feeling?" she quickly asked.

"Angela, darling, how are you?" came another familiar voice.

"Mum?" Angela said, and soon Mrs Anderson's face was in clear view as she stood next to Zora.

"Am I dead?" Angela asked, and Zora pinched her.

"Ouch!" Angela cried.

"Does it feel like you are in the great beyond?" Zora asked.

"Where am I?" Angela asked.

"In the Davis family home. I understand the Moore family are after us," Mrs Anderson said.

"Why?" Angela asked.

"Well, the news about you killing two members of their family is still out there, and now it's all over the news that you have been set free, yet no details of why," Zora chipped in.

"So this was his game, to make me a fugitive," Angela whispered under her breath, but quickly remembered what happened at the hospital.

"Who are the Davis family?" Angela asked, trying to confirm if they were safe or not, amidst the slight pain she felt in her head.

"As far back as I can remember, they were a powerful family who reigned sometime back until their Don died mysteriously. They were more powerful than the Moore," Mrs Anderson said. "I heard a rumour that they have a new Don. If that is so, we will be safe here because the Davis family hates the Moore family," she added.

"So we will be the ground that suffers in their fight?" Angela asked after listening to Mrs Anderson.

"Eeei, more like the fuel for the fire," Zora said.

"This is not good. We must leave," Angela said and tried to sit up, but the headache became severe, causing her to lie back on the bed.

"Angela, are you okay?" Mrs Anderson asked. "Zora, please get Mrs Davis," she requested.

"Okay," Zora said and exited the bedroom.

"My head aches terribly. It's like my head is splitting open," Angela complained, holding her head with both hands.

"You don't have a fever," Mrs Anderson said after touching Angela's neck and forehead with the back of her hand. "What happened? What is the last thing you remember?" she asked. "You were brought in unconscious and attended to by a doctor," she informed her.

"I was attacked in my cell and woke up in a hospital with Bryce sitting by my side," Angela said with her eyes closed and her hand still holding her head. "After Bryce left, I heard someone fall, and it was quickly followed by a man in a black suit falling into my ward. A masked man entered, and before I could jump off the bed after pulling the monitor plugs off me, he covered my face with a cloth. I went off immediately," she narrated.

"It could be that you are reacting to whatever drug was used to knock you out of consciousness," Mrs Anderson said, and the door opened, and the doctor and Mrs Davis entered with Zora trailing behind them.

Mrs Anderson made way for the doctor to examine Angela.

"How is she?" Matilda asked Mrs Anderson.

"She has a headache. A severe one, she says, but aside from that, she looks fine to me," Mrs Anderson replied, standing next to Mrs Davis.

"It's the drug used on her to make her unconscious. I will prescribe some painkillers," the doctor said and began to write something as Angela stared silently at him.

"Okay, thank you," Matilda said as she accepted the prescription from the doctor.

She quickly sent a message on her phone to someone before drawing closer to Angela's bed.

"I am Matilda Davis. I know you don't know me, but I was asked to protect you from Mr Devon Moore. He has my daughter and will be coming for you next. I brought you and your family here just to make sure no one can use any one of you to force things to move in the wrong direction," Matilda said, and Angela just stared at her, confused.

"Just relax. You are safe here," Matilda said, and a knock was heard at the door. "Come in," she said, and a servant walked in carrying a paper bag.

"Your medication is here," Matilda said after taking the paper back from the servant and dismissing her.

She removed the medicine from the paper bag and gave it to Angela after showing her the sealed medicine box. She gave Angela some water, and Angela accepted the medication. She put the pill in her mouth and drank the water.

"Get some rest. We will talk more, and I will explain things to you after you have had a good rest," Matilda said, and Angela just nodded.

"I think we should leave her to rest," Matilda said to Mrs Anderson. "You can stay," she said to Zora and pulled Mrs Anderson out with her.

"How is she?" Bryce asked as soon as Mrs Anderson and Matilda exited the room Angela was in.

"She is fine, but give me a signal to convince her to accept you," Matilda said. "You took all the wrong decisions, and by so you hurt her badly," she added.

"I understand," Bryce said. "I have requested to speak with Eva. I feel she is just a pawn," he added.

"I thought so too but she admitted committing the crime alone. There is no lead connecting to Devon," Matilda chipped in.

"I know someone who can make Eva speak. I will get the person," Bryce said and pulled out his phone. "Hello Bernard," he said as soon as the call was answered.
