Chapter 126 Sweet Turn Sour - Part 1
"You are an intelligent man. Look into it," Mrs Anderson said. "Thank you for listening to me. I have to go now," she added.
Mrs Anderson has heard about Bryce and the way he does things. She knew he would look into what she had just told him. Hopefully, that would save Angela from going to prison, and Susan will be exposed.
Bryce stood there and watched Mrs Anderson walk away. He went back inside and retrieved his phone from his pocket. He dialled Ian's number, but it went straight to voicemail. He tried again and got the same results. He called Martin.
"Sir," Martin reported to Bryce.
Bryce was standing at the end of the staircase, resting his left hand on the stair rail.
"I need you to look into the murder of the Adams family," Bryce said.
"Sir, do you have specific information you would like me to get?" Martin asked.
"I want everything," Bryce said.
"Yes, sir," Martin replied, and Bryce dismissed him.
"Sir, dinner is ready," Josephine announced.
"I am not hungry," Bryce said and was about to climb up the staircase, but Josephine stopped him.
"Would you have a preference for tea?" Josephine asked.
"I am not hungry," Bryce repeated.
"Sir, you have not been eating properly lately, and you have been working very hard. Sir, this is not good for your health," Josephine said with concern.
"Josephine, I pay you to keep my home, not to question my health," Bryce said.
"But, sir," Josephine began, and Bryce turned around, looking very angry.
"Woman, scram!" Bryce said through gritted teeth as his gaze became very dangerous.
Josephine left his presence immediately, and Bryce continued climbing the staircase. He went to his room and got into the shower. A lot of thought ran through his mind. The next day was Angela's court trial, it was also a day set aside for his engagement party. Now Mrs Anderson's story of what happened to the Adams family was also on his mind.
"If it turns out that Mrs Anderson was right, how would that liberate Angela? Is it to say, Angela's actions were justified?" Bryce thought. "Who else knows what led to Angela's parents' death in detail like Mrs Anderson?" he thought.
Bryce turned on the shower and allowed the water to flow down his body. He recalled a moment of himself and Angela in the shower room when he closed his eyes.
"Why is she on my mind?" Bryce thought, feeling angry within. "She betrayed me. So why can't I just hate her?" he thought, staring at the shower room drainage.
Bryce finished taking his bath and decided to turn in for the night. He covered himself with the cloth and closed his eyes to sleep, but thoughts of Angela kept flooding his mind.
"Bryce, please don't abandon me, help me," came Angela's voice, which sounded airy like a ghost.
"Bryce, I love you, and you are the only man I have known," came Angela's voice again.
Bryce turned in his sleep as the voice kept disturbing him.
"Bryce, why would you do this to me?" came Angela's airy voice.
"You betrayed me by taking the life of the people I love the most," Bryce said to Angela before scanning the strange environment they both found themselves in.
They were in what looked like a hallway of a room with two exit doors at both ends of the hallway. Angela was in tattered clothing, and her hair looked messed up. She kept looking around like she couldn't see Bryce.
"Bryce, I am scared?" Angela cried.
"Angela," Bryce called out to her.
"Bryce, I am innocent. I would never do anything to hurt you," Angela said, finally staring in the direction of Bryce.
"I don't believe you," Bryce said.
"Look deep inside you, and you will know you believe me," Angela said, and she began to cry.
"I am not moved by your tears and pain," Bryce said, his voice almost trembling as he watched Angela break down.
"Bryce, you forced me to marry you. You took advantage of me, yet I fell in love with you. I could not hate you. You were my first and only man. Bryce, I love you, please don't leave me in the hands of people who want to hurt you and me," Angela said and started screaming like she had seen a wild beast.
"Angela, are you okay?" Bryce asked.
"Please save me," Angela begged, and Bryce saw a hand grab Angela from behind.
"Get away from my wife," Bryce yelled and ran to save Angela, but a thick white smoke came from behind Angela.
Bryce saw a hand yank Angela into the thick white smoke as he stretched his hand towards her. His heart raced. He was terrified.
"Angela!" Bryce screamed with his hand stretched towards Angela, who had been pulled into the smoke.
Bryce opened his eyes to find himself sitting on the bed with his hands stretched out. He scanned his environment before lying back down.
"It's just a dream," Bryce said and lay down facing up.
He slowly closed his eyes, hoping he could sleep better this time.
"Bryce!" came a familiar voice, and Bryce frowned. "Bryce," the familiar voice called again, and Bryce decided to search the face behind the familiar voice. "Bryce!"
Bryce found himself in what looked like a warehouse. He kept looking around, following the direction of the voice and finally found a man with his back turned.
"Show your face?" Bryce ordered.
"Why do you want to hurt my daughter?" the man asked and slowly turned around to reveal his face.
"Mr Anderson!" Bryce called out to him, and he woke up again.
"What is happening?" Bryce thought, seeing that he was drenched in sweat. "How long was I asleep after waking up from the first dream?" Bryce thought and lay back down.
"First, it was Angela in my dream, now it's Mr Anderson," Bryce said. "What next, my dad or Mrs Anderson?" he questioned on his lips.
Bryce closed his eyes and jolted out of sleep again. This time, it was Mrs Anderson he saw. He was drenched in sweat again.
"I am not sleeping again," Bryce said to himself and got out of bed.
