A woman, not my mother

Chapter 21

"What? Why did she change all of a sudden? I haven't heard of that before, a sudden change? A happy family turned into a sorrowful family? How do you cope with that because the way you talk, I am sure that it had been long it happened"

"Well, if we have offended her, I think she should speak out, she watches me cry without any pity, I asked her everytime if there is something my dad has done to have been acting that way but she didn't say anything"

"Ooop! Sorry about that my love"

"So it continued like that for years, my dad didn't get himself, he is always thinking and later on my dad turned into a drunkard, he is always found drinking everywhere, I got depressed too at a very young age, and there was this day, I came back from school and I met my dad in the living room thinking, I entered, he doesn't even notice, I tapped him and he didn't even know, I kept tapping him before he knew, I talked to him to move on and not wound himself because of my mum, I was still talking to him when the door was knocked, I told the person to open the door and they came in with a letter, when we opened the printed paper, it was a divorce letter, I was shocked and my dad and I both cried, my dad said he won't sign it but after I reported to his family about what is going on, they talked to us that why didn't we inform them earlier, but we were thinking she would change and everything would be settle and we don't want to escalate our matter, they ordered my dad to sign it even when it wasn't his wish, my dad had many houses and some of his houses are under my mum's name, my mum signed the document and after they went to the court the court make it clear that my dad company, the one he runs, his hard work labour from youth will be handed to my mother and the houses he owns will be divided into two, well that was it, my mother gave his new boyfriend every of my dad's property, on hearing that my dad committed suicide, he died"

Joan's face was wet already with flowing water from her eyes.

"I am sorry Nathan, I am sorry you faced that, people are cruel, is she the one we met the other time?"

"Yes, she was the one, how would she even think of me forgiving her? After she had killed my father? After she scattered the family? I do not even want to see her, and I did not even want to talk about her"

"Now I understand, I understand why you don't want to talk about her, my apology for disturbing you and for not understanding you enough"

"No, it's fine, well if that is it it would still be better, though I never planned to forgive her even before I knew who she gave my dad property"

"Tell me, who did she give, who? Hope it is not who I am thinking? Who"

"Who are you thinking of?"

"No, I don't want to guess or make any suggestion, tell me who the person is"

"Marcus father, Mayor Reddington"

"What? Whoa! She gave your dad hard labor to just an ordinary man he met? Whoa! Things are happening, Whoa! This is just unbelievable, so tell me how do you live then, how do you survive? You were such a young boy then, how did you cope? Or did your mum come back"

"After his death, I told some people to pass the information across to her probably she would come back or she will take me with her, but they said after telling her, she sent them out of her house"

"So they are such people who still leave their child? They are people who avoid their own children? Whoa! I mean how did she seem to even cope with her wickedness before she started revealing it? So what was she looking for when we saw her? Now that she heard that you and her husband's son are in the same college, does he want you back? Did I even say husband? Are they married legally?"

"I didn't know about that she was the one that bailed me, when her husband ordered for the police to arrest me"

"So because of money, the police arrested you? That was just an improper arrest, there was a fight between two kids, if they should arrest anyone, they should arrest the both of you, then investigate, they should have come for me and my dad would have even arrest the so call police, those after money"

"And what do we do? She came over to bail me and you know I didn't even give her any attention, I was just thinking about you after I heard that you were in the hospital, I guess they wanted to arrest you too, but they said you were in a hospital, since then I have been thinking about you, the lady who helped me"

"You still didn't answer my question, like how has life been since the death of your father and your mother didnt help, how? You were too young to face those challenges"

"My grandmother was the one taking care of me, she is a very nice woman and she is the one providing everything I need, well, I just had to tell her that I need to live separately with her, though she insisted at first but after much plead, she accepted"

"The woman must have faces a lot"

"Yes, anytime she see me, she remembered his son, my father, and she cries a lot, that is why I had to leave there to rent an apartment, she do send me money and she is very caring, but you know it is what it is, I really don't want to refer that woman as my mother"
