Chapter 029
"Where are we going?" Wanwan asked
Liam glanced at her and didn't say anything but went forward.
After walking a distance from her he turned to face her
His face was cold and devoid of emotion
"Sister" he called out
Hearing that wanwan's mind was relived
"Did you remember what you said when our parents died?' He asked
'Why is he asking?' She thought and shook her head
"You said if you ever find the person that killed our parents you would kill them but what did I say?" He asked
Hearing that Wan felt fear in her heart
"You said it will be dirty and you will do it yourself," she said
"Yeah I did, I have found the person," he said
Wanwan shuddered at his gaze
"Oh! Where is he?" She composed herself and asked
"Standing right in front of me!" He said coldly his expression changing
"Liam what are you doing I didn't" Wanwan's first instinct is to protect herself
"See I always found it suspicious about it now I confirmed after watching the video......haha....how heartless....though they weren't your biological parent they brought you up, yet you killed them! Wan wan you! Killed! Them!" He roared
Wanwan shrank backward in fear, "It's not my fault" she cried
Bang!
Gunshot was heard
Wanwan's eyes widened in disbelief as she fell.
In the dimly lit alley, Wanwan lay on the ground, bleeding from the gunshot wound. Her vision was blurred, and her breaths came in shallow gasps. She struggled to stay conscious, her mind racing with fear and confusion.
Liam stood over her, his face contorted with anger and disbelief. "It's not my fault," she pleaded weakly, trying to explain her actions regarding her adoptive parents.
But before Liam could respond, another gunshot rang out, and a bullet whizzed past him, narrowly missing him. He instinctively dropped to the ground, taking cover behind a nearby dumpster.
Wanwan's eyes widened in shock as she saw a mysterious figure emerge from the shadows. The person wore a dark hood and a mask, concealing their identity. They approached her cautiously, their footsteps echoing in the eerie silence of the alley.
"Do you want me to save you?" the figure asked in a raspy, disguised voice
"Who are you?"Wanwan asked with a fragile voice
"Someone who hates Ling Mei as much as you do"
Wanwan's pain and desperation overrode her suspicion. She nodded weakly. "Yes," she whispered.
With swift and practiced movements, the masked individual scooped Wanwan into their arms and carried her away from the scene. Wanwan's vision continued to fade as they moved further into the darkness.
Meanwhile, Liam, who had been momentarily stunned by the sudden turn of events, crawled over to where Wanwan had lain moments ago. He found her bloodstains on the ground and panic surged through him.
Gritting his teeth, he pulled out his phone and dialed an emergency number, desperately requesting an ambulance. While waiting for help to arrive, he couldn't shake the feeling that something ominous was lurking in the shadows.
---
As the ambulance rushed Wanwan to the hospital, her life hung in the balance. The masked stranger had disappeared into the night, leaving behind a trail of unanswered questions. Liam, plagued by guilt and confusion, followed the ambulance, determined to get to the bottom of the situation.
At the hospital, Wanwan was rushed into the operating room. The medical team worked tirelessly to stabilize her condition and remove the bullet lodged in her abdomen. Her life teetered on the edge, and the doctors could only hope that they had arrived in time to save her.
Liam paced the hospital corridors, his mind in turmoil. He couldn't understand why someone would want to kill Wanwan. He also couldn't shake the feeling that he was somehow connected to this dark web of secrets and deception.
Hours passed, and the tension in the waiting room grew unbearable. Finally, a weary-looking surgeon emerged from the operating room. Liam rushed over to him, his heart pounding.
"How is she?" he asked, his voice trembling.
The surgeon sighed and removed his mask. "It was touch and go, but we managed to stabilize her. The bullet missed any vital organs, but she's lost a significant amount of blood. She's in critical condition, and we'll need to monitor her closely."
Relief washed over Liam, but it was accompanied by a heavy sense of responsibility. He felt obligated to find out who had attacked Wanwan and why. He couldn't allow her to be harmed again.
---
In the days that followed, Wanwan remained in a fragile state, recovering in the hospital. Liam stayed by her side, wrestling with his conflicting emotions. He wanted to confront her about the truth of her actions, but he couldn't bring himself to do it while she was so vulnerable.
As Wanwan slowly regained consciousness, she found herself tormented by nightmares and flashbacks. She remembered the masked savior who had pulled her from the brink of death, and she couldn't help but wonder about their identity and motives.
One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across the hospital room, Wanwan mustered the strength to speak. "Liam," she began, her voice trembling, "I need to tell you something."
Liam, who had been lost in thought, turned his attention to her. "What is it?"
Wanwan took a deep breath. "I didn't kill my adopted parents because I wanted to. It was an accident, a terrible mistake. I panicked, and I didn't know what else to do."
Liam listened intently, his anger slowly giving way to a mixture of empathy and confusion. "What happened, Wanwan?"
Tears welled up in her eyes as she recounted the events of that fateful night. She explained how her parents had discovered her involvement in a tragic incident and had threatened to report her to the authorities. In a moment of sheer panic, she had lashed out, unintentionally causing their deaths.
Liam struggled to process the revelation. He had always believed that Wanwan was ruthless and cold-hearted, but her confession painted a different picture. He couldn't help but wonder if there was more to her story than met the eye.
"Thank you for telling me," Liam said finally, his voice softening. "But we still need to figure out who wanted you dead and why."
Wanwan nodded weakly, her gaze filled with a mix of fear and determination. "I don't know who that masked person was, but they saved my life. They mentioned something about hating Ling Mei as much as I do."
Liam's eyebrows furrowed in thought. Ling Mei had always been a source of tension and conflict in their lives. It seemed that this mysterious savior had a score to settle with her as well.

In the days that followed, Liam and Wanwan began to piece together the puzzle of their tangled lives. They delved into the shadows, investigating the secrets and lies that had brought them to this point.
As they uncovered more about the masked individual who had saved Wanwan, they realized that they were not the only ones seeking answers. A shadowy figure from the past had resurfaced, and their motives remained shrouded in darkness.
Meanwhile, Meimei continued her rise to power in the business world, leveraging her newfound influence to exact revenge on those who had wronged her. Gu Mohan, her mysterious benefactor, remained in the background, orchestrating events from the shadows.
The Jiang family's downfall had sent shockwaves through the city, leaving behind a trail of chaos and confusion. Yequian, who had once been at the center of it all, found himself struggling to maintain his grip on the crumbling empire.
As Liam and Wanwan delved deeper into their investigation, they uncovered a web of betrayal, deception, and long-buried secrets. They realized that the answers they sought were intertwined with the very fabric of their lives.
The darkness of the past continued to haunt them, but they were determined to confront it head-on. They knew that the only way to find the truth and ensure their safety was to unravel the mysteries that had brought them to this precarious point.
And so, their journey continued, as they ventured further into the shadows, driven by a relentless pursuit of justice and the hope of a brighter, less tumultuous future.
