Chapter 272 272 The Truth Waiting At The Clearwater House 3
Meadow cried harder. They should have told her. They should have trusted her with the truth. Even if it hurt, it would have been better than letting her believe she had been rejected, unwanted and thrown away.
“Tamar said we shouldn’t tell you for fear that you would run away. It wasn’t worth being a rogue, and I felt no one would marry you because of your condition, so it was all right. We deliberately told Amber to ensure no communication between us so you would not want to come home. We needed you to stay there and make a life for yourself. We believed that was the best life you could get in your condition,” Blake said.
Meadow lowered her head. Their intentions did not undo the pain. They had decided for her, hidden the truth from her and left her to feel abandoned because they thought it would keep her where they wanted her. She could not just let that go.
“Your mother and I were fated,” Blake later confessed.
Everyone in the room was shocked.
“I would have left my wife for her, but she did not want to break my home. She refused, but you were the product of the Moon Goddess’s wish. She died the night she gave birth to you, and I had to carry on alone,” Blake said.
His eyes filled with tears.
“That was why I wasn’t always at home, Meadow. It was hard living without her. It took a while for me to get back with Tamar,” he explained.
Ethan interrupted before Blake could wrap his absence in too much sadness.
“Then why ask for money and status elevation in exchange for her hand?” Ethan asked.
Blake bowed his head, but Tamar answered quickly.
“That was me, Alpha. I felt it would be wrong to just give her away. I wasn’t thinking at that moment. Luna Amber shut me down immediately, and we dropped it. I was being stupid,” Tamar said.
Ethan looked at her with disgust. He knew she would have acted differently if Meadow had been her biological daughter.
Blake wiped his face and continued.
“Your mother’s name was Onawa Docela. She was from the Ace clan in Brightbridge. She named you Nalin before she died. Her father was the chief. They are an extinct clan, but she was royalty until her death, which makes you royalty too. It is a small place, but I am sure the people there would love to see you one day,” Blake said.
He sighed.
“You have a special wolf. Though you are not an Alpha, you are an Alpha’s equal. You can match their strength and surpass their speed. The only thing you lack is authority. Your mother had authority because she was an Alpha. I guess my Delta genes made you miss that mark,” he said.
Meadow did not respond. She was still digesting everything. Onawa Docela. Nalin. Ace clan. Brightbridge. Royalty. None of it felt like hers yet. It felt like someone had opened a door behind her life and shown her another life she had never been allowed to know.
“I just want to plead with you for forgiveness,” Blake said, and his voice broke. “It has been hard waking up and knowing I can’t call or visit because you must hate me. I couldn’t even go to the wedding reception. The way you looked on your wedding day stayed with me, and it haunted me. I honestly thought we were doing the right thing, but I was wrong, and I am sorry, Meadow. I really am. I have always loved you, even though I sucked at showing it. I loved you greatly.”
His tears fell freely now.
Tamar leaned forward, crying too.
“Do not be mad at your father, Meadow. If you want to blame anyone, blame me. I caused it. It was all my fault. I had a duty, and I failed at it. I did not care for you as a mother should. I guess the Goddess knew I would be a failure; that was why she did not bless me with children of my own. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me and allow your father to be a part of your life. I have watched him fade away since the day we returned from the wedding. Things haven’t been the same in this house. Please forgive us,” Tamar said.
Then she bared her neck to Meadow, showing true humility and remorse.
Meadow looked at them. She knew they were sorry. She could see it. Feel it. But sorry did not erase years. Sorry did not return the little girl who had wandered alone at night. Sorry did not give her back the voice stolen from her. Sorry did not undo the wedding day, the silence, the shame, or the loneliness. It would take time to digest everything she had heard.
She did not plan to visit Brightbridge, at least not yet. If her mother’s clan was extinct, then who was there to see? For now, Meadow felt no pull towards a place she had never known. She planned to start her own clan with Ethan when the Goddess blessed them with children. That felt more real. That felt like something she could build instead of something she had lost before she ever knew it existed.
To ease her father’s mind, Meadow signed that she was happy in her marriage. Blake watched Ethan read her hands easily, and fresh emotion crossed his face. Her father was grateful to Ethan for putting a smile on her face. He was also surprised that Ethan could read sign language so well. In that moment, he realised it truly might have been the Goddess’s will that Meadow ended up with Ethan after all.
Soon, it was time to leave. Blake and Tamar pleaded with Meadow to try and visit them often.
Meadow said she would, but she knew she would not be visiting anytime soon because she needed time to process all she had heard.
