Chapter 265 265 The Alpha Behind The Shadows 3
Joseph remembered that day too well. The chaos. The blood. The confusion. Cynthia forcing herself into the middle of things like a fool drunk on attention.
“Cynthia was interested in showing the Alpha her worth,” Sebastien said, disgust thick in his voice. “He had no business with her. I tried to protect the woman from herself, but she had to stick her nose in.”
Ashley lowered her eyes for a second, remembering how much she had hated Cynthia that day and how satisfying it had felt to beat her.
“I went against his orders by interfering and stopping the reinforcement. I wanted you to take your family to the hospital, especially Ashley, because I had used the wrong blade on her. Luna Amber and Beta Levi were good friends of my parents. I did not want them hurt either.”
Joseph’s anger shifted again, but it did not disappear.
“When you signed your father’s name on the deed, I commended your wisdom and passed it on to the man as legitimate,” Sebastien said. “He asked me if I was sure, and I told him Levi never officially handed it to Ethan, so it was still Cain’s pack.”
Joseph stared at him, unable to hide his shock this time. Sebastien had protected that lie. He had known and still carried it forward.
“Anyway, everything I did almost blew my cover. That was why, instead of sending me to hold Whitewood, he sent me here and told me to wait for him while he sent Cynthia, whom he could easily manipulate, to Whitewood,” Sebastien said.
Joseph sat back slowly, stunned by all he had heard. They had spent years looking for their father’s murderer. To think the same bastard now moving against their pack might be responsible for Cain’s death was mind-boggling. It made the war feel more personal and more dangerous at the same time.
“Was your father sure about this man being my father’s murderer?” Joseph asked.
Sebastien nodded.
“He was. And that was what got him killed. We are not sure if he was the one who killed Dwight, but it seems like it,” Sebastien said.
Joseph looked at Malcolm.
“Why didn’t you tell me any of this?” Joseph asked him.
Malcolm shrugged.
“It wasn’t a phone discussion, Joseph,” Malcolm confessed.
Joseph understood that, even though it still annoyed him. A secret like this could not be handed over carelessly through a link or a call. Not when the enemy had eyes everywhere and puppets in places they did not yet know.
“So what do we do now?” Joseph asked.
Sebastien nodded, as if he had been waiting for that question.
“He is bound to show his face soon. We are building an army in Ceenas and waiting. Once that happens, we will take him out. Him and his army of rogues,” Sebastien said.
Joseph frowned.
“Army of rogues?” he asked.
The warehouse attack flashed in his mind at once. Victoria’s blood. Olive falling. The rogue playing dead and striking from behind.
“Yes,” Sebastien said. “He has been recruiting and sending them to scout areas of interest. We have killed a lot of them. If you find rogues in your area, do not allow them to get away. They are scouts.”
Joseph’s heart began to pound harder.
“The fact that he is yet to tell me about them gives me the right to kill them,” Sebastien continued. “I did not figure it out at first. I thought they were random until yesterday when he called and ordered me to stop killing the rogues he sent to Ceenas. It made me realise rogues had become scarce lately. I wonder where he is keeping them.”
Sebastien’s expression darkened.
“He is an Alpha. That much is evident since he can organise and control them.”
Joseph gasped softly because the meaning hit him fully. The rogues at the warehouse were not random. Their training location had been discovered. Their army-building efforts might already be exposed. Victoria had almost died because the enemy had been scouting them.
Joseph took out his phone to call Ethan immediately.
