Five hundred years ago, gateways suddenly appeared in various places on Earth.
Each dimensional portal was a gateway to another realm and from them strange monsters emerged in countless numbers.
These monsters were called abyss monsters, they were straight up creatures from hell as in just one night countless major cities had been decimated and turned into utter wastelands.
The weapons humanity were proud of were useless, even our tactical missile systems and nukes had little to no effects against the thick skin of the abyss monsters.
Luckily however, we quickly discovered that cold weapons like swords, spears and the like were extremely efficient at eliminating them, still humanity was on a backlog as we could only keep on struggling for so long.
It was estimated that in half a year we would become an extinct species!
Just when all hope was lost, when it seemed like we were destined to become another chapter in history a miracle happened.
Runemastery!
We didn't know how it happened but somehow a group of people suddenly awakened with powers that weren't meant for humans.
We're talking about being able to summon lightning and control fire! Manipulating the earth and wieldinh powers beyond any human imagination!
Essentially they became demigods!
In less than a year the monsters that had nearly driven humanity towards extinction were brutally dealt with. In no time at all we had regained a stable footing.
Furthermore, other humans also began to awaken the power of runemastery and since then the era of runemasters….
….began!
Zelda empire
Dome No.1 high….
Today was awakening day!
For youths all over the world that had reached the age of sixteen they had the chance to awaken their spiritual roots thus embarking on the path of the legendary runemasters.
For many it was a day of joy and enormous transformation while for others it signified their mediocre futurem
If you couldn't become a Runemaster you were destined to be trampled upon by others!
“Have you heard Jason from class two actually awakened the Fire element!”
“I heard too, as expected of the heir of a great family.”
“It's actually expected though. For someone who had a spiritual synchronization of over ninety percent in the last test making him the second ranking student, you can't expect anything less!
“True…true, that makes me even more interested to discover what the top genius with a full hundred percent spiritual synchronization would awaken!”
Hearing this the person being spoken about, Jason couldn't help but feel a little bit smug, however, his expression quickly morphed into one filled with jealousy as he heard them talking about the top ranked student.
For Jason that Alex was his bane in Dome high school. He was better than him at everything despite being an orphan with no family background.
As he thought of this he instinctively glanced at the relatively shorter line of class One where a young handsome man with raven black hair was standing at the very front of the line in front of a pure white five feet tall awakening pillar.
With an expectant expression Alex placed his hand on the awakening pillar.
“Close your eyes and summon the spiritual force in you, communicate with the runes and guide them towards your mental world.”.
Doing as the teacher instructed Alex quickly closed his eyes and in the next moment a magical scene happened.
The pillar started to pulse with a faint golden glow from the bottom before rapidly rushing to the top while enveloping Alex.
Gasps of surprise could be heard from the spectating students and teachers.
“As expected of a genius with full synchronization!”
“We're witnessing the birth of a legend!"
Finally the light receded revealing Alex's figure. The teacher in charge of class One awakening immediately rushed towards Alex while staring at his hand.
Immediately an incredulous expression replaced the excitement on his face as he saw the lamp imprint at the back of Alex's hand.
“Li..light element?"
Looking at the lamp imprint on his hand Alex too was shocked as he involuntarily blinked a few times just to be sure.
You've got to be kidding me right?
For most runemasters, apart from the possibility of awakening the five basic elements fire, water, earth, wind and metal there was also a chance to awaken certain special elements like space, ice, healing, curse, lightning and a whole bunch of other elements.
Each element had its own pros and cons but it was widely accepted by all runemasters without exception that the light element was the worst of all as it could neither defend nor attack!
The only use they had was to be a lightbulb on the battlefield but who needed that?
Nobody!
Heck they couldn't even act as a support!
Essentially it was a trashy element!
With how loud the teacher was everyone in the awakening hall quickly learnt that the genius with full spiritual synchronization had awakened the notorious light element.
“Tsk tsk tsk, it's a pity. Who would have thought that such a genius would awaken the worst element possible."
"What genius?” Another retorted with a scornful expression on his face. “...he is nothing but trash!”
Hearing the harsh tones of the students Alex was surprisingly calm.
He knew that everyone that had tried to get close to him before had done so because of his talent and the fact that he could rise to high positions in the future.
Now that he had awakened a trashy element there was no way the respect and adoration they maintained in front of him would continue!
“Alex!"
Right then Jason suddenly made his way over to Alex. Immediately the murmurings stopped as everyone made way for Jason.
As a typical young master Jason had always tried to become the main character figure only for all his efforts to be foiled by Alex.
Now however that Alex had awakened a trashy element how could he not take the chance to step on him?!
Chapter 2 : Academy selection: We don't accept trash.
“Sigh….you know Alex I feel sorry for you. Awakening the light element leaves you with no future as a rune master. However, I'm not one to leave my friends in suffering and luckily for you I'm in need of some servants. What do you say hun?”
Hearing the offer from Jason everyone felt that he had gone too far. However no one spoke up for Alex as they had no reason to.
“You’re not worthy.”
Those three words were like a bell in everyone's ear.
Without waiting for Jason's reply Alex walked past him.
“He really left??”
“Damn he didn't even give Jason any face.."
" Shh…don't let Jason hear you the guy is trouble."
Hearing the murmurs Jason's face darkened, he was still finding it unbelievable that Alex askctualky dared to treat him like air.
“SHUT UP!”
Yelling he stormed out of the hall visibly angry.
How dare Alex say that he was unworthy? He'd let him know the consequences of disrespecting this young master!
After leaving the hall Alex quickly forgot about the matter with Jason as he headed towards the city square.
Unlike five hundred years ago when highschool students had to wait months for admissions it was a matter of few hours now.
As a method of ensuring the students became runema
sters faster the admission into runemaster academies was immediate.
For most of the students this was that chance of a lifetime they were waiting for.
