Bloody red!
Bloody red!
“HOW CAN A HUMAN FUCKIING DISSAPPEAR FROM YOUR SIGHT LIKE THAT!” Heaving like all the air was being forced out of his lungs George glared at Eden with bloodshot eyes.
He was literally on the borderline of craziness at the moment!
“Actually, we haven't been able to make any headway concerning that, but I believe by tomorrow—”
“Tomorrow? Shit’s gonna already be in the freaking fan by then! Oh lord…..”
Eden wasn't even able to say a word before he was cut off as George went into a full blown tirade of words—some not so nice words.
The only thing he could do was grimace like someone sitting on a cushion of pins as he listened to the mayor's rants.
Huff, huff…..
Finally, after what seemed like eons, Eden noticed to his relief that the curses were finally reducing, not because the old man was tired but rather because he had exhausted his diary of curses.
Looking at the sweating, wheezing mayor though, Eden did a quick retake.
“Okay maybe tiredness is also part of it.”
“Aiyah, I flipped out didn't I?” Dropping down on the edge of his desk, George asked Eden as he rubbed his head in embarrassment.
“It's nothing boss, I guessed you had to vent it out, although I have to say you have a pretty strong vocabulary.” Smiling wryly, Eden said as he stood up. Grabbing two mugs he strode towards the expresso machine at the other end of the office.
“I was just agitated thinking about how he could have escaped under such security." Sighing, George grumbled while muttering a thank you as he accepted the cup of coffee Eden brought him.
Taking a sip of the strong and bitter black coffee his brows furrowed as he fell in thought. Eden by the side simply waited patiently while going through some reports on his device.
One had to know that apart from the guards escorting the van in plain sight there were still some other failsafes strategically placed in order to prevent any chance of a breakout happening.
He could bet his mayoral chances that even a well thought-out, fully equipped, rigorously trained and coordinated extraction team wouldn't be able break that bastard out without at least raising some alarms.
Yet it was all for naught!
By the time the operatives he placed could even recognize that something was wrong Firman was long gone.
Sighing, George rubbed his temples even harder. This was going to be bad press if it ever got leaked, severely affecting his rates at the upcoming polls. Thankfully they were still managing to keep it under wraps—for now even if it was becoming harder each minute that passed.
“But who could have broken him out?” Closing his eyes he muttered under his breath.
“The disgruntled mases maybe, we're still investigating at the moment though that's the most possible situation. ” Shrugging his shoulders Eden suggested causing George to consider it for a while, however, he soon shook his head.
“I don't think they were the ones behind this, rather it should be someone trying to help him to escape.” Opening his eyes he said with a conviction that caused Eden to cock an eyebrow in surprise.
“That's some strong opinions there but I guess you're probably right.” He added as his mind quickly joined one to one.
There had been some backlash from the public with some people desiring that capital punishment would have been the best judgement for Firman. However, the court had ruled otherwise giving him a life sentence instead.
While they were disgruntled by this they had eventually accepted the ruling of the court since he was going to be behind bars for life anyway and at a maximum security prison at that.
Thus that left him being broken out as the more plausible option considering he was being sent to the notorious level five maximum security prison in Michigan where there was no way of escaping once he entered.
Right when the two were racking their brains about who could have the resources to bulldoze all their preparations a knock suddenly broke the silence of the room.
“Come in.”
Following that a lady entered the office giving a curt bow to the mayor before turning around with a full salute to Chief Eden.
“Yes sir!, you might want to see this, I fear that things might have just gotten even messier."
Handing over the tablet in her hand to Eden she moved back a bit.
At first Eden wasn't sure what she meant until he saw the article on the screen. Immediately his eyes widened causing George to become curious and come over to check it out.
In no time at all his face also scrunched up, not in fear or anger but in helplessness and shock.
“Those darn opportunists!” Cursing, Eden raised his eyes from the screen right in time to meet the same helpless expression the mayor's face.
Right on the screen, numerous tabs were opened side by side each bearing the logo of different news companies, a quick glance showed that they all had something deeply in common.
A dead body floating in bloody red pond, the redness naturally stemming from the body bleeding out in the water.
They weren't shocked because of the dead body or the bloody pond despite how gruesome it was.
Instead, they were shocked because the body in the pond was none other than Firman's!
