Chapter 51 Attacked

Chapter 51 Attacked
~Alec POV~
He has always been the baby of our pack. It was weird to hear him try to get into the conversation between Kyson and Noah. They were talking about a new girl at school. They being them, they took it a bit too far. Although he’s literally 16, Garrett tried really hard to talk a big game like he has any experience.

Resulting in the dare being introduced. Garrett had to kiss at least two girls on our trip.

“What?” His face conveys his shock.

Noah laughs from his spot lying on the couch. Kyson is joining in from the kitchen. “If you got so much game, why not prove it. Alec has to confirm two kisses on the lips from two separate girls.” Noah holds up two fingers.

He whines, his voice squeaking. “When am I going to have the time for that? We’re going on a business trip only.”

“There are plenty of places you guys can go to at night. And no one will ever know.” I roll my eyes at their stupid bet.

This is the first trip I’ve been allowed to go on alone. It took quite a bit of convincing to let me be the face of the pack. It’s a small thing, but it’s important to me. It’s a meeting between our pack and another smaller pack a few states away.

Garrett has been forced to come as well because of his dad being best friends with mine. And of course, the fact that they guessed Noah and Kyson would get into trouble. Which was the correct call, considering they’re already trying to convince Garrett to do something stupid.

“But we’re teenagers,” Garrett whines again.

“Whatever, you’ll make it work if you want to prove yourself.” Kyson shrugs like it’s not his problem.

Garrett looks at both of them, desperate for more help, but they don’t give it to him.

“We’re not going for fun; this is a business meeting. If we get caught, we’ll never be sent again.” My tone is short, trying to stop this conversation before it goes much further.

“Don’t be a buzzkill, let the boy prove himself.”

I give Kyson a pointed look, effectively ending the conversation. I thought that would be the end of it, but when we finished the last meeting of the day, he immediately started badgering me to find a club that we could sneak into.

“Are you that serious about this dare? Who cares what they say?” He doesn’t want to hear it.

“I care, I need to do this. It’s hard being the youngest one here; they don’t listen to me or believe me. You wouldn’t understand.”

He looks pitiful. I’ve always had a soft spot for Garrett. I’ve known him since he was a baby. In many ways, I see him as my little brother, so his desperation to go through with this stupid dare makes me give in. What’s the worst that could happen? We can find a place to get his two kisses and leave.

“Fine, let’s go.”

He jumps up without a second of hesitation. It took us walking around downtown to find a club-type place that looked like it could be easy to sneak into. We find one with a very long line out front. But we don’t plan to sneak in through the front door. This building has large windows sitting on a balcony. One of the perks of being a werewolf is having superhuman capabilities. We scale the wall, getting onto the balcony and through the window with ease.

The music is deafening inside the building. We walk down stairs, sneaking into the crowd. Garrett looks beyond thrilled at everything going on around him. I lead us through the crowd to the bar, looking back every few seconds to ensure I don’t lose him.

That’s where I spend my night watching from the bar. He got a pop spending the rest of his night on the dancefloor. And I confirmed that somehow he got more than his two kisses. I keep my eyes on him at all times. We stay far later than I would have liked, only leaving when the crowd starts to thin out. It’s early morning, and the sun is still below the horizon.

“That was awesome!!” He yells, his voice full of pure euphoria.

Although I didn’t love it, I have a large smile on my face at his enjoyment. “You got your kisses.”

He skips in his steps. “They’re going to eat it. They doubted me for nothing.”

I laugh at his joy. It’s addicting to be around him when he’s like this. It’s the best feeling to see him so happy. But that changed in one split second.

We walked into the wrong alley. They were already waiting for us, but we were so caught up in the thrill of the club that we didn’t hear them. I smelt them first, but it was too late.

They lunged at us, one on either side. The woman went for Garrett while the man took me down. My head thuds on the ground, making me see stars for a second. I hear his yell, making the stars clear instantly. I push the man off of me against the wall.

I go to help Garrett. The woman is losing against him, but I won’t let anything happen to him. He’s not an experienced fighter like me.

I grab the woman, throwing her away from him. He gets up quickly, looking at me, scared.

I grab his hand, not wasting time. We need to run. We run through the alley, cutting into a restaurant, an abandoned building, or even a nail salon in hopes of losing them. And we didn’t see them anywhere around us.

“What was that?” He asks panting softly.

It makes my stomach twist in fear at the only plausible answer. “Hunters.”

He looks scared as well. We’re strong, but hunters have experience that we don’t. We’ve never hurt another person. And we both know, deep down, that they have no trouble finding us. We walk through an unfamiliar area of the town, our senses on high alert for the man and woman.

After not hearing, smelling, or seeing them for several hours, we take our chance going back to the hotel. The plan is to grab our stuff and get out of here immediately. We made it to the hotel. We had our stuff in our hands.

We were almost to a vehicle when they attacked again.
