Chapter 33
After tirelessly brainstorming, we had finally formulated a strategy to confront the looming threat. As the night drew to a close, we exchanged heartfelt goodbyes, dispersing into the darkness to recharge for the impending mission. Alora, though she vehemently denied it, was clearly fatigued and hungry. The journey to the sleek black SUV, a custom creation courtesy of my father, was accompanied by a heavy silence, each of us immersed in our own contemplations. The late hour served as a stark reminder that our devised plan demanded diligence and effort, prompting a shared acknowledgment that the road ahead was fraught with danger, necessitating a collective commitment to making our strategy a success.
As we climbed into the back of the SUV, the engine roared to life, shattering the silence and jolting us out of our thoughts. Alora's fatigue seemed to momentarily dissipate as she gripped the edge of her seat, her eyes glinting with determination. The headlights sliced through the darkness, illuminating the road ahead like a beacon guiding us towards our destiny.
As we made our way through the empty streets, I couldn't help but feel an apprehension. The weight of what was at risk pressed upon my shoulders, but I refused to let it buckle me. I glanced at Alora beside me, her profile defined by the faint glow of passing streetlights. Her determination was contagious, fueling my own resolve.
"We're going to defeat them," I said softly, eager to break the heavy silence that hung in the air. Alora turned to me, her eyes gleaming with a mix of determination and vulnerability. "I hope we can," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. She reached out and gently squeezed my hand, as if seeking reassurance in our shared connection.
Goddess, my love for this woman was all-consuming, a raging inferno that burned through my very being. The mere thought of any harm coming to her sent chills down my spine, igniting a fierce protectiveness within me that knew no bounds. With every fiber of my being, I swore to shield her from any danger, even if it meant sacrificing my own life in the process. And as I thought about all the pain and suffering Alaric had inflicted upon her, an unbridled fury consumed me. An unbreakable oath forms in my mind - I will have vengeance for every ounce of pain Alaric has inflicted upon her. He will face the full extent of my wrath for daring to cause suffering to my beloved mate.
As we neared the hotel, Silas, who had departed the council meeting ahead of us, reached out to me through the link. "How did the remainder of the meeting unfold? Did I miss anything significant?" he inquired. "No, I'll brief you on the conclusive details in person," I replied. "Alright, I just wanted to let you know that dinner is prepared and waiting for you," he added.
I thanked Silas for his thoughtfulness and disconnected the link and couldn't help but feel a twinge of anticipation at the mention of dinner. As we made our way into the suite, exhaustion weighed heavily on our shoulders, but the aroma of freshly cooked food rejuvenated our senses. Silas was always one step ahead, ensuring that everything ran smoothly.
*Sparks’ POV*
My spirits lifted a bit upon encountering the enticing aroma and visual spectacle of the feast arranged for us. Despite Hunter extending an invitation to his father, he declined, citing fatigue. Nevertheless, he grabbed a plate before retiring to his own suite. As I approached the table, my senses were overwhelmed by the symphony of scents and colors that filled the air. The sight of succulent roasted meats, vibrant fruits, and decadent desserts made her mouth water with anticipation. I couldn’t help but marvel at the meticulous attention to detail that adorned the long dining table, as if a painter had designed each dish.
With a newfound energy, I reached for an empty plate and ventured into the culinary wonderland. I carefully selected several pieces of tenderly cooked venison, its aroma mingling with the earthy scent of herbs that clung to it. Next to it, I added a spoonful of buttery mashed potatoes and a handful of crisp garden vegetables. As I moved along the table, I noticed that my plate grew heavier, each addition becoming more tempting than the last. A golden stack of flaky pastries caught my eye and I couldn't resist adding one to my ever growing collection. I couldn’t help but to bite into it immediately, it oozed warm, gooey chocolate with every bite, filling my mouth with a burst of decadence. The sweet melody of flavors danced on my taste buds, momentarily transporting me to a world of pure bliss. I closed my eyes, savoring the moment as the velvety chocolate melted against my tongue.
Immersed in the euphoria of the moment, I failed to register Hunter's amusement with my antics. "What!" I exclaimed, the words muffled by the rich, velvety chocolate dessert occupying my mouth. "Nothing, just wondering if you were going to take a seat," he quipped, a sly half-smirk playing on his lips as he gestured towards the empty chair beside him at the elegantly set table.
I blushed, realizing I had been standing there, lost in my own world of joy. Embarrassed, I quickly pulled out the chair and gracefully sat down, trying to regain some composure. Hunter's playful gaze never left me, as if he found my momentary lapse in coordination endearing. As I settled into the chair, our eyes locked for a brief moment. The room seemed to fade away, leaving only the two of us in this enchanted bubble. It was as if time had slowed down and all that mattered was the connection between us.
