Epilogue 🐉

It is said that there are two parts of war. The battlefield and the aftermath.

The battle was won.

The cost came in the aftermath.

Dom along with his family and those of the deceased was the first one to enter the Shifter Cemetery.

It was the huge ground where all the shifters who lost their lives to Y's madness were buried after the war. Those who had been recognizable had tombstones, the rest got collective plates with lists of names of those lost in war.

There was an empty grave for the innocent Isabella, about whose whereabouts no one had any idea. But Freddie deserved a place to mourn, and Isabella deserved to be remembered like the rest of the innocent victims.

Liliana's body had been recovered, but it would've been unfair to all those who died fighting Waai if she had been buried in their ranks. So Dom had placed her in the backyard of his private mansion, where only the close family would be able to visit and remember. Iris still hadn't been able to entirely move past the attempt on her child's life, but you can't stay mad at the dead.

The next few months had gone by in a haze.

Iris was busy with little Marie and Dom was busy cleaning up Y's mess. Freddie hadn't yet returned, but news arrived regularly of his team attacking human technological bases that were still making SHS and its newer, more potent versions.

Unlike the first war that was won by humans due to SHS and using Freya. Iris and little Marie had turned the tables. Now, the world knew of shifter existence and there was no need to repeat past mistakes and go into hiding.

Dom and Iris had been declared the harbingers of Peace and even humans had to accept this new dawn and shift of authority. A new world order had been set.

The Vampires had chosen to go back to their secluded lifestyle.

The werewolves were each given fair territories and the Alphas were all answerable to Dom and Iris.

The Witches had two decisions. One group decided to keep working with Dom and Iris under the guidance of Master Aikis. This group included the reverted Capricorn witches. The second group had chosen to scatter around the world and freelance.

Sussane had left with her mate to help out with his remaining family and spend some time together to get to know each other.

Elijah had decided to join his mother on the journey back to mother nature and had gone back to his eternal sleep content that the world was in the capable hands of Dom and Iris.

Autumn was approaching as the yellows took the place of the greens around them.

Dom entered the pastel green nursery silently to see Iris rocking little Marie while reviewing some reports simultaneously. She hadn't been able to rest as much as the doctors had recommended but as the tribrid Alpha Queen she was ready to step up wherever and however she could.

"How about you let baby Marie sleep in her cradle so your both arms are free to work as you like?" Dom suggested in whispers, to not wake the little angel drooling in Iris' arm.

Iris nodded wordlessly and slowly moved the baby to the pastel blue crib with light clouds painted on it. Then she turned to Dom who was arranging the reports on the table.

The couple looked at each other tired but satisfied.

A maid brought hot coffee and the two moved to the balcony overlooking the mansion grounds.

Dom wrapped Iris in a hug from behind as she allowed her head to rest on his chest, sighing with a soft smile on their faces. The sun was setting as a cool wind carried nothing but the aroma of peace and autumn. No more worries of war or chaos. Their biggest problem was only deciding when to invite Sussane and her mate for dinner together.

"Freddie is on his way back." Dom notified softly.

"I hope he got the closure he sought." Iris replied, her heart heavy for Isabella, who was never found again.

"I hope so too. And I hope he can forgive me." Dom looked in the distance thoughtfully.

"None of what happened was your fault. And in time Freddie will know that too. He is your brother and that bond is irreplaceable. You are his last family on this planet. He just needs time." Iris softly tried to soothe her husband as she sipped her coffee and rubbed the arm that was around her.

Dom didn't reply. They both knew that it would take everyone along time to accept the war losses and move on with their lives. They could never go back to how things were before. But the change had been nice too.

Dom and Iris were now in an alliance with the human leaders and were looking forward to creating a new UNO with Human representatives sitting on the same table as Vampire, Werewolf, and Dragon representatives to be ready to crush monstrocities like Waai before they have a chance to wreck havoc.

{Somewhere far away}

🐉

In a meadow in the middle of nowhere sat a handsome young shepherd, holding his cane and keeping a careless eye on his cattle, mind wandering aimlessly.

Suddenly a massive portal tore open the sky.

The rattled animals ran in random directions as the man jumped up in surprise and terror.

A gigantic thing fell from the sky, smoldering in fumes as it crashed with a loud wail into the meadow, right where the cattle had been.

The shepherd forgot his animals as he realized that the thing that had fallen was still breathing. It was alive. Thick skin covered in huge bleeding gashes. The six limbs, four like a ginormous mixture of lion and eagle, but the two at the back like huge leather wings.

Each tooth of that blacked-out beast was about the size of the man's arm. A breath as hot as fire escaped from the huge nostrils.

More curious than scared now, the man dared to step closer.

Step by step he reached the fallen being, like the God, until he was able to poke the close eyelid with his cane.

For a second, nothing happened.

He wondered if the thing was close to death.

Then in a flash, the lid lifted, revealing a massive golden eye that dilated and focused straight at his tiny form compared to the beast.

He stepped back in caution but the beast slithered away painfully faster.

It looked around with a strange awareness and having noticed a tuft of trees close by, dragged its bruised and bloodied body behind them, licking its wounds and moaning in pain.

It was a pitiful sight. The shepherd had an idea and rushed back home.

He returned with a chunk of uncooked meat and rushed to where he had seen the beast rest to lure it towards a nearby river bank. But was astonished to find that the beast was nowhere to be found. there was no trace of being dragged anywhere and he was sure that the damaged wings wouldn't allow it to just fly away.

But then where did it go?

He neared the cluster of trees to find a trace of the giant beast. What awaited him in the clearing behind the tree cluster shocked him.

There was a young woman lying face-down on the ground. Her naked body was covered in blood and cuts. There was a huge gash on her back. Her long brunette hair was spread around keeping a little of her dignity.

The shepherd dropped the piece of meat he was holding and took off his coat to cover up the girl.

By some miracle she was alive. How had he reached there, the young man had no idea, but he couldn't leave her alone and vulnerable in the meadow.

Carefully carrying her blacked-out form, he walked back toward his humble cottage.

That is when he heard a female voice ring in his head, "Thank you, stranger. I'm Isabella."

The man stopped in his tracks astonished.

The woman was still out cold. And was sure he was alone except for a couple of his cattle that had wandered off earlier grazing here and there. But then whose voice had he heard?

His curiosity and desire to help the pretty stranger won as he resumed his walk, hoping to find answers when and if the woman woke up.
