Chapter 87 🐉
**[Warning: This chapter consists of gore and details of the live murder of innocents. Reader discretion is advised.]**
Waai was shocked at the sight of the people he thought he had left to guard the hostages and probably be gifted with some new ones on his return. So, he roared, "What the hell happened?"
One of the younger witches, Lydia, answered, "The dragons came for their hostages."
Y's eyes flared, "So what? We were prepared!"
He looked accusingly at Mage Ved'ma who had been clutching her right side where Master Aikis' last offensive spell had grazed her. She hated the way Waai looked at them and spat at him, "You think you were the only one prepared? That they were idiots who wouldn't know they were walking into traps?"
Before he could retort, she sinisterly dropped the bomb, "The crowned king destroyed my lab. Your potion with every ingredient is gone. There aren't going to be any more dosages of your glittery potion!"
That made Y shoot out of his seat and march toward the injured Mage, enraged, "How could you be so incompetent to leave such an important thing unguarded?"
He then straightened up, "No worries. You can start over in this temple. Everything you need is available here. Get to work before the next full moon!" he ordered.
The old mage had other plans, as she spoke spitefully, "Don't talk to me like you are my superior, shifter!"
Y raised a brow at the change of demeanor. The mage spoke proudly, "You have fulfilled your purpose. Accept my gratitude for retaking this ancient temple for us. Now you are in our way. But know, that Capricorn will remember your sacrifice, or not!" She gave a smile through her decaying teeth.
Waai was confused, but then the witches began chanting. That is when Y realized he had been used. His temper skyrocketed as he called in his army and the witches fought for the temple against the werewolves. The night was falling as the full moon was about to rise, enhancing the abilities of the wolves. Mage Ved'ma cast a spell that covered every shifter in the vicinity and reversed their shift back into human form forcefully.
Waai was about to take his potion when the witches blasted him, breaking the vial in his hands as the Mage taunted, "Dead men need no potions."
Y screamed, "You can't kill me, you betraying witch. I will make sure you see every member of your sick coven pay for this stupidity-"
He got blasted by a ton of collective spells again before he could complete his sentence. The werewolves saw they were going to lose at the hands of witches. Unlike dragons, wolves were not immune to magic.
Just then, the Mage stumbled as she reached the golden stool of the master of the temple, coughing up blood. Taking advantage of the witches' distraction, Y took his precious hostage and ran with the rest of his army, since they couldn't fight with their wolves unable to transform. The betrayal Waai had seen coming, just not so soon. He was expecting to end the Mage after she had taken care of Dom and his dragon, but she took the step too early.
Y was angry, but the lack of a dose of his immortality potion along with no resources to get anymore in the future was more infuriating. He was watching the world he had sacrificed his whole life to build start tumbling in front of his very eyes. His list of people to extract revenge upon, increasing.
The moment Dom and Freddie made it back to the safe-house with the rescued hostages, the medics and witch-healers were ready to take care of everyone. Iris rushed to Dom's side as Nora rushed to Freddie's. The mates and their families finding each of their own. Thankfully, the children had been left unscathed yet, but the same couldn't be said about the males who were among the hostages.
Once in the privacy of their bedroom, Iris hugged her husband long and hard. She tried not to worry about her man, who was the Alpha king and the strongest dragon shifter, but she knew who he was going against and she loved him too dearly to stay unbothered. The healers had done a nice job of speeding up Dom's recovery, most of the wounds were already gone.
Iris had prepared a bath for her husband, who had been silent since they arrived, only relishing in his mate's soothing presence and their unborn baby's heartbeat. As the bath filled, Iris sat beside her husband who had taken his armor and shirt off, and sat deep in thought,
"Want to talk about it?" She put her hands on his bruised one and softly asked.
For a few moments, he just looked at their hands which he intertwined, and then at her eyes. He sighed, "We lost so many today. The traps and the witches were so well prepared. I don't know how long this will last but I want it to end. I want his head on a spike."
Iris nodded in understanding, "I know. I've wanted the same for so long. But now we are closer to that than ever." She gave a soft, optimistic smile.
He kissed her forehead, "You have been so strong, little wolf. This world is lucky to have such a strong Alpha Queen."
Just as he said that, Iris smiled widely and pulled his hand to place it on her belly where Dom's eyes instantly went wide as saucers. He asked, "Is she?"
Iris nodded, "Baby Dom has been very active and has missed Daddy too much."
Dom dived in to steal a loving kiss before heading to the bathroom where the water had started spilling. "I'll see what I can get you to eat once you're done." He agreed as she left the room, first to take a look at the survivors and then towards the kitchens where she had been spending most of her time since her pregnancy.
Dom and Iris were having a nice dinner as all the rest of the inhabitants of the safe-house were asked to cherish this time with their loved ones before a meeting about future plans would be held. The werewolf alphas were content under Dom's leadership as he had fought for their people, they had seen him lead today, as they had gone with him in the rescue party. Even though Waai wasn't there and the witches had escaped, they still had destroyed another place of their hiding, which was a small victory in itself.
That is when an out-of-breath Nathaniel in charge of outer affairs rushed in without knocking, "Apologies for the intrusion, Alpha King, Queen! But, we've just received a video call from an unknown source. It's obviously him."
Dom and Iris exchanged glances and rushed to the meeting room as Dom asked, "Told Freddie and Dad?"
Nathaniel nodded, "Edmond went to inform."
Once in the meeting room, Clara was waiting for everyone and quickly pressed to accept as the last person entered.
The screen was darker, and not shot in the same studio setting as it used to be before. It showed a dirty cell with painful whimpers coming from somewhere. The camera moved and a psychopathic sound from behind the camera spoke, "You really thought you did a number on me today, huh? Dominic McBlaze!"
Waai spat the name as he shone a torch at the corner of the room, "But I have a giffft for you, I hope you like it." He rolled the 'l' creepily.
What the spotlight showed chilled many in the room to the core. The rest looked just as horrified, even though they didn't know who it was. But Freddie shot out of his seat. It was his little sister, Isabella. She had been away from all the Y drama and had even missed the wedding and crowning because, under the given circumstances, Freddie had wanted her out of the spotlight and harm's way, away from Dom and Iris, spending her days taking care of the handicapped shifters at the Temple of the Supernatural that Iris had introduced them to.
They had no idea how Y got to her but it was clear that the temple was not safe. Isabella had curled into a shivering ball of nothing. Despite being a dragon, she looked nothing more than a weak human on the verge of death, which wasn't far from the truth as Y showed his dazed eyes to the camera with dark circles around them. His usual crisp suit and sleek hair were in a mess like he hadn't slept in ages.
He taunted about Isabella, "I just couldn't help myself, you know! When I came to know who this pretty innocent little girl was, Little angel!" He went near her as he called her pet names and she coiled away from his touch.
"You dare touch a hair on her head and I swear-" Freddie was erratic, but Y completely ignored them all and turned back at the camera, pulling her hair mercilessly and making her teary eyes face the camera, "Let them see what happens to the mighty shifters when their dragons die and their bodies start wilting away. Some potions are more potent than others, after all." He spoke casually like a housewife talking about cooking tips.
Isabella had been given SHS. That part was clear, but what else was the poor girl going through, they couldn't even imagine. Poor Freddie was hysterical. After all his attempts at keeping his little sister safe, she was in the worst condition any of them had endured so far. It was clear that Waai was vengeful and going to take it all on the poor girl. He was taking their revenge on her for everything that happened that day.
In front of their very eyes, on the live video feed, as Freddie watched, crying for his sister, Waai first broke as many fingers and bones as he could, the sickening sounds of her screams and breaking bones echoing. Finally, he cradled the neck of the whimpering girl and snapped it to an odd angle, killing her and then lighting her on fire.
Freddie had turned his face away, not being able to watch as everyone stood helplessly because they had no idea where they were and by the time they could've reached them, Isabella would've been dead anyway.
He cried for his sister inconsolably. The poor innocent girl had not deserved any of that and there was no way Freddie could be calmed down. He rushed out leaving everyone behind, left the castle with his cloaking ring, and transformed to express his grief God-knows-where. Behind him, Dom was just as grieved but now extremely motivated to get the war done and over with. He didn't want to lose even a single more soul to Waai.
He also decided to lead the team for the Temple of the Supernatural, where Y might have been still.
**Author's note:
Poor Isabella became the next victim of Y's mania. How will Freddie handle it at such dire times?**
