New Years Special
Marie had wanted to be the first one to see the Sun on the first day of the year.
She had convinced her parents to fly her to the East coast of Japan to stand on the highest point and catch the first rays of the first Sun of the year.
They had reached there a day earlier, and Marie was determined to stay awake the whole night, countdown to midnight, and then watch the sunrise before sleeping.
Iris was sure she wouldn't make it past ten, but she still promised her daughter not to force her bedtime and in case she does fall asleep, to wake her up before midnight and sunrise.

Dom walked from behind Iris, who was leaning slightly on the balcony railing deep in thought, the mug of tea brewed from local Japanese herbs forgotten in her hands.
"Penny for your thoughts, Little Wolf?" Dom whispered close to her ear and took pleasure as her body reacted to his voice.
Iris turned around slightly, placing the mug on the nearby table as Dom placed his hands on the railing behind her, enveloping her in his embrace. She raised her arms and held her hands at the nape of his neck.
"Just thinking." She shrugged, discarding the topic and leaning in with a smile.
"Thinking what?" Dom's voice went deeper as his lips hovered above hers, almost there but not really.
"Things." She whispered, her hot breath fanning his facial hair and teasing his lips.
"What things?" He asked, set on challenging her to her own game.
"Just things." She responded as her expert fingers, now familiar with the gesture, let his long hair loose from his bun in a swift motion.
"Iris," His voice held a warning that if she continued they'd have to take it inside.
"You only call me by my name when you are upset or turned on. Should I guess which one is it?" She tip-toed and whispered in his ear. Her voice traveled down his body and left goosebumps in its wake.
It was not surprising to anyone who met them, even once, how their love had only begun over the years and had centuries ahead of it.
Dom bent down, his lips grazing her ear lobe as his slow and steady hands roamed down her body until they reached her hips and held on tight.
The sudden gesture made her gasp and Dom took this opportunity to tease her further, "So, what things?"
His smirk was audible in his words but Iris' reply turned him on further as she looked at him confused about the conversation just a second ago and asked genuinely clueless, "What things?"
"Oh, Little Wolf."
With that, Dom pulled Iris up as she wrapped her legs around his taut torso and he placed her on the railing they had been leaning on a minute ago. His lips found hers finally, neither knew who gave in first.
The kisses started out small and teasing and turned into full of desire and passion. Dom's eyes turned gold as Iris' animal emerged from her psyche.
The two beasts battled for control and domination which always went like either the Dragon won or let his little wolf win.
Carrying her inside, barely stopping to breathe, as he laid her on the bed, both felt disconnected from the whole world and ready to drown in each other like many times before and many more to come.
Dom's hands found Iris' bra under her shirt but both jumped up in shock as a loud bell rang cutting the silence and tranquility of the midnight before they heard a crowd from the hotel floor under theirs yell, "TEN!"
Iris pulled Dom back on top of her, already made up her mind to resume, ignoring the crowd that went equally insane each year around this time.
Before their lips could meet again, there was a knock at the door.
A familiar and very cherished scent reached them and they both groaned in frustration.
"Mom! Dad! I know you guys are in there. I can smell you!" Ten years old now, Marie had still not shown where her genome had tilted and which of her parents had she taken any abilities from. But she had the basic instincts of a witch, speed faster than most shifter children her age, and her senses were stronger than and wolf or Dragon children. None of the elemental abilities that she seemed to have projected to her mother before birth had shown up again since either.
"Coming, Princess!" Dom called out as he reluctantly left his delicious wife who got up fixing her hair and shirt before her husband opened the door to welcome the little interrupter.
"I told you to wake me up before midnight!" she whined with a yawn.
Her father pulled her up in an embrace as a loud chorus rang through the air, "THREE!"
"Dad, let's go down there!" She jumped in his arms eagerly.
"No," Iris spoke with soft authority to which the little one turned to her father with doe-eyes, "Please, please, please, please."
"That's a party for adults and didn't you want to see Sun?" Dom tried an understanding technique.
"HAPPY NEW-" the rest of the chorus got muddled with the gigantic roar of fireworks that lit up the whole night sky, distracting Marie who dropped from her father's arms and rushed to the balcony, her eyes full of wonder and awe.
Dom stole a quick kiss from his partner before their daughter turned around.

It took many hours before Marie was deep asleep on her parents' bed, spread out like a starfish as her parents looked at each other with the same question in their eyes, how to move the little one to resume what they had started before the interruption or just lock her in and go to her room instead.
The two had barely crossed the lobby when they heard Marie on the other side of the door, "I knew you wouldn't let me watch the Sun!"
They returned shocked, "Baby, were asleep. We didn't want to disturb you." Iris tried to soothe her.
"Well, I'm glad I was smart enough to place an alarm on the phone for Sunrise. Now let's go! Quickly!" She spoke with an air of superiority that turned to urgency at the end.
The two locked eyes and gave up. It was impossible to win from one's own children when you love them to your bones.
Since childbirth, Iris had gained the ability to use magic even around Dragons and she had been taking full advantage of this. She brought her husband and child to the balcony and teleported them to the tower where they had decided to watch the Sunrise.
Sun's golden glow had spread and in ten minutes, Dom raised his daughter and placed her on top of his shoulders as she reached up and allowed the Sun's rays to kiss her small hand as she exclaimed, "I love you, Daddy, and Mommy."
She was brought down after she had had enough and both her parents smushed her in bear hug with kisses before it was time for Iris to teleport them back.
Once satisfied and back, Marie did not waste a single moment rushing to her room and plopping on her bed.
Dom's fingers found Iris as they stood side-by-side, having welcomed another year in their long lives while the partying humans slowly turned into rest or blackout.
"How about we resume what we started?"
