Chapter 143 Test result

Chapter 143 Test result
The next morning, as the light filtered softly through the parted curtains, casting a pale glow across the room, Lucas stirred awake.
For a brief second, everything felt normal, until the memories of the previous night came rushing back. His chest tightened, but he exhaled slowly, pushing the thoughts aside. Today was different. Today, there might be answers.
The thought alone brought a small, hopeful smile to his lips.
He slipped out of bed quietly and opened the bedroom door. The faint clatter of utensils and the low hum of movement from the kitchen told him Alex was already on breakfast matter. That, in itself, was a good omen.
Lucas headed straight to the bathroom. The warm water ran down his body, washing away the remnants of fear and uncertainty. By the time he stepped out and got dressed, he felt lighter and almost optimistic.
He was adjusting his watch when the door opened and Alex stepped in. Alex paused, clearly surprised. “Wow, I thought you’d still be in bed.”
Lucas turned, his smile widening as he walked over. “Good morning, love.” He leaned in, placing a soft kiss on Alex’s lips. “Did you even sleep? I know last night was a lot. But I don’t know, I have this feeling that whatever this is, it’ll pass.”
Alex’s lips curved into a faint smile, though it didn’t quite reach his eyes. “Yeah, it will end soon.” His voice was gentle, but there was something restrained beneath it. “But, baby, I don’t want you to go to work today. Please.”
Lucas shook his head lightly. “I’m not going to work. I’m heading to see Dr. Peters, for my test results.” His eyes lit up with quiet excitement. “Who knows? It might be good news.”
Alex blinked, momentarily taken aback. “Oh, right. I forgot about that.”
But as he studied Lucas’s expression, bright, hopeful, almost glowing, his own demeanor shifted. A flicker of unease crossed his face. What if it wasn’t good news?
He stepped closer, reaching for Lucas’s hand and pulling him gently toward him. “Hey, don’t get your hopes too high, okay?” he murmured, his voice soft but firm.
“What if the results aren’t… favourable? I don’t want you holding onto something that might hurt you.”
Lucas wrapped his arms around him without hesitation, resting his head lightly against Alex’s shoulder. “Please don’t say that,” he said quietly. “I just feel like it won’t be bad. Let’s hope for the best, okay?”
Alex hesitated, the words sitting heavy in his chest, but he swallowed them. Arguing now would only dim that fragile hope.
“Alright, baby,” he conceded softly, brushing his hand over Lucas’s back. “Come on. Let’s eat something first, then we’ll go together. Okay?”
Lucas pulled back slightly and nodded. ”Hmm,” and his smile returned.
But as they stepped out of the room, Alex’s expression fell the moment Lucas wasn’t looking, his eyes shadowed with a worry he couldn’t shake off.
Meanwhile, earlier when Alex woke, his mind snapped back to the events of the previous night. Sleep hadn’t lasted long, and whatever rest he got did nothing to ease the tension coiled in his chest.
Without wasting a second, he reached for his phone and dialed Thomas, looping Dan into a conference call.
“Boss?” Thomas’s voice came first, alert despite the early hour.
“What happened?” Dan followed immediately.
Alex sat up, on the living room couch, his tone low and controlled. “Mac made an annoying move last night.”
There was a brief silence. It felt sharp and dangerous. He went on to detail how Mac tried to scare him and succeeded.
“I want two cars,” Alex said after he had finished telling them about Mac. “Three guards each. They were to follow Lucas, whether he’s alone or with me. No mistakes .”
“Consider it done,” Thomas replied. “We’ll have eyes everywhere,” Dan added.
Alex ended the call without another word, his grip tightening slightly on the phone before he exhaled.
After breakfast, they left for the hospital with Lucas. He sat beside Alex, unaware of the silent security detail surrounding them. One car led ahead, another trailed behind, close enough to act, far enough to go unnoticed.
Alex, however, noticed everything since he had earlier told them where they were headed.
The doctor greeted them with a warm smile. “Good morning, Lucas. Alex. Please, have a seat.”
They settled across from him, Lucas leaning forward slightly, anticipation written all over his face.
The doctor reached for a file and handed it over. “Your test results.”
Lucas took it quickly, scanning the pages. His brows furrowed immediately. The words blurred together, clinical, complex, and unfamiliar.
He looked up. “I don’t understand. Can you explain it?”
The doctor nodded gently, folding his hands together. “There has been a slight development,” he began carefully. “However, your ovarian system is not yet mature enough for reproduction.”
The words hung in the air. For a second, Lucas didn’t react as if his mind hadn’t caught up.
Then it hit. The hope in his eyes cracked, shattering into something fragile. A tear slipped down his cheek before he could stop it.
Alex moved instantly, pulling him into his arms. “Hey…baby, it’s okay,” he murmured, holding him close.
Lucas shook his head against him, his voice breaking. “No, it’s not okay.” He pulled back slightly, his eyes glassy with pain. “I want to have babies.”
The doctor’s expression softened, but he remained silent.
Lucas let out a shaky breath, his frustration unhidden. “If I’m not a man, then shouldn’t I at least be a woman?” His voice trembled. “Why is my case different?”
The room fell heavy with emotion. The doctor finally spoke, his tone calm and reassuring. “Lucas… your condition is complex. Development might still happen, though it might also be slow. There are slight possibilities, but they may require time and medical assistance.”
Lucas didn’t respond immediately, his gaze dropped to the file in his hands.
Alex tightened his hold on him, his jaw set as he looked at the doctor, silent, but filled with a quiet determination that this wouldn’t be the end of the story.
Alex started, “Baby don't let it bother you, according to the doctor, there are still possibilities. By next year we will come again and check for progress.”
Alex needed to say something that would give him hope.
“I would rather say, one year is too much to wait.” The doctor put in. “Six months is better. Tell me, Lucas,” Doctor Peters continued, “Does the erection still come?”
“Yes, it does,” Alex responded before he could stop himself.
Doctor Peter gazed at him like are you, Lucas? But then smiled, “Oh, I get it, since he is your baby, I guess you should know. So how strong would you rate it, Alex?”
“Doctor, his erection is very strong. From my experience, no complaints at all. He is okay and sweet.” Alex slipped again.
“Hmm, sweet hmm,” the doctor teased.
“Alex…” Lucas started shyly but hid his face in Alex’s chest.
The doctor chuckled, “It's okay Lucas, I'm your doctor. This information is important. I think you guys should check back in three months.”
   “Three months?”
