Chapter 130 Hospital visit
“If they’re working together…” he muttered. “That means everything happening is planned,” Alex finished.
Lucas’s voice dropped. “Exactly what it looks like, planned work.”
A tense silence followed.
Then Alex straightened, something colder, or rather more dangerous, settling into his demeanor. “Good,” he said quietly.
Lucas blinked. “Good?”
Alex’s lips curved into a faint, chilling smile. “Because if they’re working together,” he picked up his phone, already moving with purpose, “Then taking one of them down might bring the other straight to me.”
Lucas gazed at him but couldn’t shake the feeling twisting in his gut.
Because if they were right, then they weren’t just being watched. It felt like they were being hunted.
Suddenly Alex chuckled again, “I just changed my mind about reporting him to the police.”
Lucas gazed in confusion, “Why?”
Alex didn’t respond, but smiled. Then without wasting another second. He pulled out his phone, selected the picture, and sent it. The message was delivered instantly.
Then he made a call and it rang once.
“Yeah, boss?” Dan’s voice came through, calm but alert.
“Dan,” Alex said, his tone sharp and controlled, “I need you to put people in place. I just sent you a picture, find him.”
There was a brief pause on the other end. “May I get a hint about whom I'm looking at?”
Alex’s eyes darkened as he stared ahead. “He is someone who once deceived me, blackmailed me, and walked away with ten million.”
Dan let out a low whistle. “Damn. And now he’s back?”
Alex’s grip tightened around the phone. “Yeah. And this time, he’s not just playing games, he’s getting bold.”
Lucas and Alex exchanged glances, the tension in the room thickening.
Dan’s voice shifted, more serious now. “Say no more. I’ll get my guys on it immediately. Do you want him followed, picked up, or just intel for now?”
Alex’s lips curled slightly, cold and dangerous. “Start with intel. I want to know where he is, whom he’s talking to, and what he’s planning.”
A pause followed. Then, quieter, and deadlier, “And Dan, dig deep. I have reasons to believe he’s not working alone.”
“Got it,” Dan replied. “You’ll hear from me soon.”
The call ended.
For a moment, silence lingered.
Then Alex lowered the phone slowly, his expression unreadable, but the storm behind his eyes said everything.
Lucas stepped closer. “Alex…”
Alex exhaled, rolling his shoulders like he was preparing for war. “If he thinks he can come back into my life and start pulling strings again,” his voice dropped.
“Then he’s about to learn the hard way.”
Lucas held his hand, worries etched on his face. “This is getting serious.”
Alex glanced at him, his gaze softening just a fraction, but the resolve remained unshaken.
“Yeah baby, too serious to ignore,” he said.
Lucas felt that same chill again, but this time it came with something else. The sense that whatever was coming next, there would be no turning back.
Alex leaned in again, closing the small distance between them. His hand stroked his cheek as he said with a light smile, “Hey, baby, there is no need to worry much about this okay. Trust me, we will be fine.”
Then, his lips find Lucas’s in a deeper, more certain kiss. It's like he was sealing a promise he didn’t yet have the words for.
Lucas responded, trusting him that they would be fine.
In the next two hours, Lucas and Alex were already at the hospital.
The air was thick with that sterile scent that always made everything feel more serious than it already was.
Lucas’s fingers brushed lightly against Alex’s as they walked in, not quite holding, but not pulling away either.
“You okay?” Alex asked quietly, glancing down at him.
Lucas nodded, though his voice betrayed a hint of nerves. “Yeah, I just want to get it over with.”
They didn’t have to wait long.
“Lucas?” a familiar voice called.
Both of them turned to see Doctor Peter approaching with a warm, professional smile. “Right on time. Come in.”
Alex gave a polite nod as Lucas followed the doctor into his office. The room was neat, and a scan screen was already prepared.
Doctor Peter gestured to the chair. “Have a seat. I’ve reviewed your previous records, but today we’ll be running a new set of tests to check for any changes.”
Lucas swallowed lightly and sat. Alex remained close, standing just beside him, his presence steady and grounding.
“What kind of changes?” Alex asked, his tone calm but attentive.
Doctor Peter adjusted his glasses. “We’re focusing on his reproductive system, specifically the development of the uterus we previously observed.” He looked at Lucas. “When you had the other tests, it was underdeveloped. Today, we want to determine if there’s been any progression.”
Lucas nodded slowly. “Okay.”
“Good,” the doctor said. “Let’s begin.”
The next hour passed in a blur of procedures. Blood samples were taken first. Lucas winced slightly as the needle went in, and Alex instinctively reached out, his fingers resting gently against Lucas’s arm.
“I’m fine,” Lucas murmured, though he didn’t pull away.
Then came the imaging.
Lucas was guided into another room for an ultrasound and internal scans. The lights dimmed slightly as the machine hummed to life. A nurse moved efficiently, applying gel and adjusting the equipment while Doctor Peter monitored the screen closely.
Alex stood off to the side, arms crossed, his eyes fixed on the monitor even though he barely understood what he was seeing. His jaw tightened now and then, as if trying to read meaning into every flicker on the screen.
Doctor Peter’s expression remained neutral, focused, and analytical.
“Stay still,” he instructed gently.
Lucas nodded, staring at the ceiling, his thoughts racing despite his attempt to stay calm. Every second felt longer than it should.
After that, there were more scans. Measurements. Murmurs were exchanged between the doctor and nurse. Finally, it was over.
Lucas sat up slowly, exhaling as if he’d been holding his breath the entire time. Alex immediately stepped closer, offering him a hand.
“You did well,” Alex said softly.
Lucas gave a small, tired smile.
“Didn’t really have a choice.”
They returned to the office where Doctor Peter was already making notes, his pen moving steadily across the file.
Alex didn’t sit this time. “So?” he asked, unable to hide the edge in his voice. “Did you see anything?”
Doctor Peter looked up, calm as ever. “I’ve gathered all the necessary data, but I’ll need time to review everything properly before giving you a definitive answer.”
Lucas’s shoulders dropped slightly. “So… no results today?”
“Not final ones,” the doctor replied. “This isn’t something I want to rush. I’ll compare today’s scans with your previous records to determine if there has been any structural or functional development.”
Alex nodded slowly, though impatience flickered in his eyes.
“When should we come back?” Lucas asked.
“In two days,” Doctor Peter said. “By then, I’ll have a clear assessment.”
There was a brief silence.
Lucas nodded. “Okay… thank you, doctor.”
As they stood to leave, Alex’s hand found Lucas’s again this time, firm, protective. And Lucas didn’t let go. Because even without the results yet, one thing was certain.
Whatever they were about to hear in two days, was going to change everything.
As they stepped out, Alex’s phone buzzed. It was Dan from last night's investigation.
Alex stepped a little farther away and answered immediately. “Dan. Tell me you found something.”
There was a brief silence on the other end before Dan spoke, his voice serious.
“There was a new finding.”
Alex’s heartbeat picked up instantly. “Did you find who drugged me?”
“No,” Dan replied. “That’s the thing. The drink wasn’t meant for you.”
Alex froze. His fingers tightened around the phone. “What do you mean?”
