Epilogue
ASA'S POV
I slowly wrap my arms around her waist, pulling her back and flush against me as I lean down, nudging her cheek with the tip of my nose before moving my lips slowly to her ear. She lets out a small giggle, her hands folding on top of mine.
"Have I told you how incredible you look?" I mutter, already knowing her answer. It's yes, because I can't stop telling her how beautiful and perfect she looks. She always does, but today, in the perfect white dress, she's a whole other kind of beauty.
"Yes," she lets out with another giggle as I place a kiss on the crook of her neck, pulling some of her loose curls back before placing my chin on her shoulder. It's a bit of a stretch for me, but with her high heels, it's much easier than usual — actually, usually my chin rests on the top of her head because of how short she is. "Only about a thousand times."
I already know she rolled her eyes when I asked. I love that in the past three years, I've come to know every single little thing about her. Her birth marks, where she's ticklish — which is everywhere — how many times she hits snooze before getting up, and everything in between. Cassandra is still a terrible cook, although she makes up for that with how incredible she is with our daughter. Not only is she a great mother, but for the last year, she's been a terrific CEO for Rhodes Enterprises — recently renamed to R&R Enterprises — thanks to a little contract that we signed to merge my company with Cassandra and Zac. It technically stands for Rivers & Rhodes, but all three of us decided to shorten the name.
"I can't believe how fast time is flying," Cassandra let's out a soft sigh, her eyes gazing across the dance floor from where we are standing on the side, observing all of our loved ones and friends enjoying themselves at our reception. I know she's talking about how much Aislin has grown. She's about eighteen months right now, walking and talking away. Well, it's more blabbering, but she knows how to say certain things, like momma and dadda.
"Yeah," I can't help but smile, taking in all of it. My mom is dancing with my younger sister, Andrea. Lauren is having a blast with a few of our friends, and even Andrew is having fun with a few of the other kids. Zac is dancing with Aislin in his arms. He's her favorite, but it's a two-way streak, considering his niece has him wrapped around his finger. "I can't believe it's been three years already."
My hand glides over hers, feeling the wedding band and diamond ring on her ring finger. We met here, at the same place we are having our official wedding ceremony and reception today, exactly three years to the day at a gala, and it's crazy considering how much my life has changed since that night.
I was never one to think that I would want to settle down and raise kids, but that's exactly the life I want with my wife. And being here today? It's a reminder of how I felt when I met her that first time when Cassandra tripped and I just so happened to be the one who caught her.
It's cheesy and a story that people don't seem to believe when we tell them the story of how we met. They always say it sounds like the start of a book or romantic comedy, which Cassandra and I always end up laughing over.
"You can't? I remember every day when your alarm goes off at five am," Cassandra teases, giving me a quirky 'I'm annoyed about it still' look. I can't help but laugh, because she's absolutely right about my alarm going off so early, but it's not like she ever gets up because of it. The woman sleeps like a log.
"I love you," I blurt out, spinning her around in my arms and kissing her on the lips. I feel like even though today has been about us, I haven't truly had a moment alone with her apart from now. "I can't believe that I get you all for myself for two weeks."
"Right," Cassandra actually rolls her eyes at my remark, her hands pressed against my chest, fingers playing with one of the hems on tuxedo. "I'm nervous. We haven't been apart from her for more than one night..."
We had gone back and forth on going on a honeymoon for a while, considering Aislin is still pretty young, but after much debate (and convincing), we both decided that we needed time off. From work. From parenting (not that a honeymoon entitles us to stop being parents, because it doesn't). But it will be so nice not to have to wake up and change a diaper, or make a bottle first thing at the crack of dawn.
Initially, we were going to keep the trip short, just a week of us flying down to the Maldives, but considering the travel time and all, it's going to be thirteen days of us away from home, aka Cassandra being nervous and worried constantly.
Aislin will be staying with my mom, but Lauren and Zac will also be helping — they've worked out all the logistics — and she's great with all of them. In fact, I'm almost certain that she's not going to miss us at all.
"Don't worry, I'll make sure to keep your mind off of that," I tease her, gliding my hands down her back playfully. Cassandra still gets nervous about PDA and all that, and it's absolutely adorable because I'm not even doing anything and she's already starting to blush.
With a loud laugh, I shake my head as she swats at me, giving me her mom look again that dares me to try touching her ass again. I decide against it, considering in a few hours, we'll be starting our honeymoon and there will be plenty of time for me do all the ass grabbing I want.
"Honestly, I can't wait to get on that flight. My feet are killing me, and I swear, I don't think I can handle another day of AlphaBlocks and Daniel Tiger without losing my mind," she finally admits, and I can't help but give her a big grin. I knew that she would be excited about this, even though she wasn't admitting it before. Her bags have been packed for weeks and at the very least, she deserves some time off from everything.
Just as I'm about to plant another kiss on Cassandra's lips, Aislin's squeal interrupts the moment as she comes running up to us, immediately tugging my pants. I grin down at her as she holds her hands up, "Up Dadda! Up!" she giggles, practically forcing my hand and making me scoop her up in my arms.
"Hey princess," the words leave my mouth without a second thought. She's wearing the cutest fluffy light pink dress, with all kinds of little jewels on it, and absolutely looks like a little princess. She's my princess, always.
"It's past your bedtime, sweet pea," Cassandra leans in, planting a kiss on Aislin's chubby cheek, wrapping her arms around me and leaning her head against my chest. Aislin giggles, reaching for her mom's hair and touching it softly. We're in the middle of teaching her to be gentle. She's always been a bit of a grabber and tends to always pull on Cassandra's hair. It was cute at first, but now that she's getting older, we can't have her do that anymore. Especially not if we're planning on having another baby soon.
We've talked about it. A lot.
We wanted to start trying when Aislin turned a year, but quickly decided against it because two under two sounded like a nightmare, especially with both of us wanting to continue working the way that we do. Then, with the wedding approaching, it just didn't seem like the best time to start trying either. Cassandra had awful morning sickness when she was pregnant with Aislin, and it wouldn't have been the best time either.
I don't know if there's every a good time honestly, but we agreed that as soon as all the wedding shenanigans were over with, we would approach the subject again. Which is exactly what I'm planning on doing the second we start our honeymoon — mainly because I think it would be awesome to be able to tell our baby that we conceived him or her on our honeymoon.
Actually, that would probably be embarrassing for them to hear, but hey, isn't that what dad's are supposed to do? Embarrass their kids a little?
"What are you thinking about?" Cassandra looks up at me with her eyebrows raised, eyeing me suspiciously. I grin at her with a small wink, wrapping my free arm around her shoulder.
"I don't think you want me to say it aloud," I smirk, knowing she's going to assume it's something dirty. It's technically not, but don't get me wrong, as a dude, I'm thinking of all the dirty things too. Like how great it's going to be not having to wear a goddamn condom a single time on this honeymoon if we're trying to make a baby. Not that I'm complaining, because I'm not. I wouldn't admit it to anyone, but I think Cassandra could ask me to do anything for her, and I would. In a heartbeat without a second thought.
"Oookay, nevermind," Cassandra nudges me, her eyes darting to Aislin who's leaning against my chest in my other arm. She's distracted by my tie, her chubby little hands grabbing onto it. "I don't need Aislin repeating anything that comes out of your mouth again."
Okay, so one time I dropped an f-bomb and Aislin just so happening to gain the vocabulary of a freaking five year old for a moment and decided to repeat the word over and over again.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
Seriously, it was the only word we heard for a couple days, and thankfully it was just as quickly forgotten. Cassandra was pissed as hell, and although we laugh about it now, I don't think that it would be acceptable to have her continue saying that word when we try to get her into preschools and dance class in the future.
"It was one time, baby," I remind her, and quickly decide that it's best to change the subject instead. I kiss the top of her head, followed by a kiss on Aislin's head as well."Why don't we have one last dance together? The three of us?"
My two girls. Who would have thought? Certainly not me. But I've never been happier. The best part? Knowing that I get to make them happy, too.
Cassandra smiles and nods, taking my hand and together we walk back out onto the dance floor. I hold Aislin in one arm, pulling Cassandra closer with my hand holding hers as I pull her into a small spin. She's laughing, watching as Aislin giggles and claps her hands together.
