♥ CHAPTER 21 ♥
Hilary Carter.
It’s been a week since I’ve been feeling unwell. Sometimes I’ve experienced dizziness; I didn’t tell Anthony because I didn’t want him to worry. It might be nothing serious, but three days ago, I woke up in the middle of the night to vomit. After that, I began to suspect that I could be pregnant.
I’m scared that he might not want kids yet. I know he mentioned wanting them before with his ex, but now, I’m not so sure. We’ve only been together for three weeks, and I might be pregnant; it’s so frustrating, not because of the baby, but because of what he might want.
I went to work very concerned about him. When he said he wasn’t feeling well, I wanted to stay with him, but he convinced me to go to work. I left with a heavy heart. Also, another thing that bothered me a lot this week was the sudden friendship between Dylan and Anthony. They were talking all the time, and it made me uncomfortable because Dylan is gay and attractive; what if my boyfriend likes him? I know it’s silly to think this, but with so much on my mind, I’m becoming paranoid.

11:50 '' Hilary’s Company. '' New York '' USA
I sighed, feeling a headache coming on, massaging my forehead when I heard two knocks on the door.
'' Come in! ''
Dylan walked in with some folders, and I huffed.
'' What’s with the face? '' He asked, coming closer to my desk.
'' A headache, nausea, worry.
'' Nausea? '' He gave me a knowing look. '' You guys are having unprotected sex all the time, did you think you wouldn’t get pregnant?
'' Go to hell. '' He laughed.
'' And isn’t that good? You’re going to have a child with the man you love.
I sighed.
'' I don’t know if he’ll accept it. '' He looked at me as if I were silly. '' Dylan, we’ve only been together for three weeks. Suddenly being pregnant is kind of weird.
'' Do you love him?
'' More than you can imagine.
'' Then stop worrying. I know he loves you more than anything in this world. He’ll definitely be happy to know he’s having a child with the woman he loves.
'' I’m also not sure if I’m actually pregnant.
'' I’ll leave these folders here for you to read and sign. Meanwhile, I’ll go to the pharmacy nearby and buy some pregnancy tests, okay?
'' Okay. '' He placed the folders on my desk. '' Thank you.
'' No problem. I’ll be right back.
He left the room, leaving me alone, and I sighed. I opened the folder and started reading the documents.
'' I hope I’m not pregnant, not yet.
***
I was startled when he entered the room without knocking.
'' I brought five different ones. One of them shows the weeks.
'' You scared me. '' I put my hand on my chest, feeling my heart race.
'' Okay, okay, go test them.
'' Bossy.
I took the bag from his hand and went to the bathroom to take the tests.
***
I came out of the bathroom, and he stared at me.
'' So?
'' I can’t see the results. '' I said, very nervous.
'' Stop being so dramatic.
'' I can’t, Dylan.
He rolled his eyes and came over to me.
'' Okay, I’ll check the results myself.
He went into the bathroom, and I sat on the small sofa in my office, my heart racing too fast.
I don’t know how he will react. Will he accept it?
Dylan came out of the bathroom.
'' So? '' I asked anxiously.
"Congratulations, Hilary. You're one week pregnant."
Oh my God!
"I-I’m... Oh my God." I ran my hand over my face, exhausted.
"Hey, this is actually great news, Hilary."
"And what if he doesn’t want it, Dylan?"
"I could slap you, seriously, are you thinking like this? That man loves you more than anything. He’s definitely going to be thrilled about this."
"Do you think so?"
"Trust me, I know. Just look at the way he looks at you. He’ll love this news."
I let out a sigh of relief.
"Thank you, Dylan."
"Don’t mention it. Stop being so negative. You’re not the Hilary Carter I know." I managed a small laugh at that.
"Okay, now go back to work."
He rolled his eyes.
"The person helps and gets treated like this, my God." He left the room grumbling, making me laugh.
I’m really lucky to have him as a friend.
I took a deep breath several times and went to my desk to grab my phone. I dialed his number and called him.
"Hi, my love."
His gentle voice made me smile.
"Hi, my life. How are you?"
I asked, a little nervous.
"I’m feeling a bit better."
That made me feel a bit better too.
"I... I need to talk to you when you get home."
I said, extremely nervous.
"Is it something serious?"
"I don’t know if it’s serious."
"Hilary, you’re making me worried."
I let out a sigh.
"I have to hang up now. I’ll be home at six, I love you."
I hung up without waiting for a response, laid my forehead on the desk, and let out a long sigh.
I was such an idiot with him just now; I made him so worried.
"I’m a terrible girlfriend."
I need to get this over with and be honest with him. I don’t want to disappoint him. I’m so scared he’ll leave me.
"Stop thinking negatively, Hilary." I gave myself a couple of light taps on the face and took a deep breath.
"Let’s just finish this and go home."
I went back to working with my mind far away.
I shut down my computer when I saw it was five-thirty. I’ll finish the rest of the work later; my mind isn’t in the right place right now. I grabbed my bag and left my office, heading to the elevator, which opened with some of the employees from up here.
"Good afternoon, boss." They greeted me.
"Good afternoon."
I entered the elevator and pressed the button for the ground floor. I took a deep breath several times and rubbed my forehead from the pain.
"I need a long shower and a nap."
The elevator doors opened, and I quickly headed out of the building. I got into my car, buckled my seatbelt.
"I have to tell him as soon as I get home."
I made that decision and started the car, heading home.
