♥ CHAPTER 19 ♥

Hilary Carter.

"Hilary's House," New York, USA

I sighed as I saw my man approach me, and he immediately hugged me.

'' My love, if you don’t want to go, just say so. '' He kissed my shoulder.

'' I really don’t want to, but they might come here later asking why I didn’t go. '' I said, upset.

I hate this intrusive family.

'' Then don’t worry about it. We’ll go, and if you want, we can come back early. '' I sighed again and turned to hug him.

'' If they say anything about you, don’t stop me from defending you. '' I said seriously.

'' My love... '' I looked at him.

'' No, Anthony. If they say anything bad about you, I will defend you my way. No one is going to speak ill of you while I stay silent, not at all.

He kissed my forehead.

'' I want you to know that if they comment on my skin color, I don’t care. I’ve faced so much prejudice that I’ve decided to let them talk, because arguing with someone with no structure is pointless. I know I’m Black, and that won’t change. If someone calls me Black, it makes no difference because I am Black.

'' It does matter when it's said with malice. '' He gave me a quick kiss.

'' I love you; you don’t need to worry about me.

I took a deep breath.

'' Alright, let’s go then. The sooner we go, the sooner we can come back.

'' Yes, boss. '' I smiled at that.

'' Clown. '' He laughed.

'' At least I saw your beautiful smile.

I kissed him, and he wrapped his arm around my waist. We deepened the kiss, our tongues dancing together until we finally pulled away, breathless.

'' Also, don’t stop me from kissing you. '' He traced his thumb over my lips.

'' I wouldn’t be crazy enough to do that.

'' Good.

We grabbed our phones and left the room. I was wearing a fitted orange jumpsuit, making me look quite sexy. My Anthony was wearing black dress pants, a white dress shirt, and a black blazer that complemented his outfit.

He looked delicious.

'' I didn’t even say, but you look beautiful. '' He said suddenly, making me smile.

'' And you look amazing. '' He laughed. '' Seriously, love. Is there time for a quickie?

I was happy to see him laughing.

'' Love, you know we don’t do quickies. '' I smiled at that.

'' Yes, it’s true.

We got into the car, and I started it, heading towards my parents' house.

'' I just hope this lunch isn’t as disastrous as I’m thinking.

'' I hope it’s not.

I sighed.

'' Love, I was thinking. '' I said, getting his attention.

'' Yes?

'' If I can clear your record, would you visit your family? '' I asked, very curious about this.

'' I don’t know, love. They practically abandoned me, so I really don’t know. '' I nodded.

'' I’m here to support you, no matter what you choose.

'' Thank you for that, dear.

'' You’re welcome.

11:15 AM "Hilary’s Parents’ House," New York, USA

I parked the car in the garage, and we got out. I grimaced when I saw my other relatives’ cars.

'' I already want to go home. '' I said reluctantly.

'' We can just say hello and leave if you want. '' He said, taking my hand.

'' I wouldn’t even say hello. '' He laughed lightly.

'' Shall we? '' I took several deep breaths.

'' Let’s go.

We walked to the house and I knocked three times on the door. Soon the butler, Fred, opened it.

'' Miss Hilary, it’s a pleasure to see you again. '' I forced a smile.

'' It’s a pleasure to see you too, Fred.

'' Please, come in.

We entered and saw all the pests of my family gathered.

I deserve this.

'' Hilary! '' My mother saw me and came over. '' I’m glad you decided to come.

I didn’t have many choices.

'' Yes. '' I said with little emotion.

'' And who is this by your side? Your driver?

Anthony gently squeezed my hand to keep me from losing it.

'' Actually, he’s my fiancé. '' I pulled Anthony closer to me.

My entire family stared at us in shock, my cousin Adriana dropped the glass she was holding in shock.

'' How!!? '' My father shouted. '' A Black man!!!?

Breathe, Hilary, breathe.

'' Yes, Dad. I’m engaged to Anthony. '' I said seriously.

'' I won’t allow this; no one in our family has married a Black person!

I looked at Anthony for composure, and he sighed.

'' Sir, the color of my skin doesn’t make me a freak. We are all the same. I bleed the same way you do, I have two legs, two arms, just like all of you here. I can speak like you and think like you. We are all equal; nothing changes except for my skin color. Did you know that racism can lead to imprisonment? Hilary and I don’t care if you approve of our relationship or not. She’s thirty-two years old and no longer lives under your roof. She decides what she wants to do, and if she no longer wants me, she will say so. So, I don’t worry whether you approve of our relationship or not because she is the one in charge of it.

I smiled at that.

Everyone was shocked by Anthony’s calm words.

'' So, Dad, stay away from my relationship with Anthony. If you speak ill of him again, I’ll call my lawyer and have you arrested for racism. You know very well you won’t win if I tell everything you’ve done to me.

He looked at me with such rage, as did the rest of my family.

'' I knew I shouldn’t have come here. Well, it’s better I came, so I can end this quickly. From today on, all of you are dead to me. Don’t come to me, because you are nothing to me anymore. If you try anything with my boyfriend, we’ll meet in court, and you’ll surely be sent to prison.

I turned, pulling Anthony out of that horrible house.

'' Are you okay? '' He asked as soon as we got into the car.

'' I’m great, I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. '' He kissed my cheek.

'' I’m happy for you.

I looked at him.

'' Are you okay? '' He nodded.

'' I’ve already said it, love. I don’t mind being called Black; if you’re okay, then I am too.

I smiled at that.

'' You’re my man. '' He leaned in and gave me a quick kiss.

'' And you’re my woman.

'' Only yours. Now, let’s go home.

'' Yes, let’s go home.

I finally feel free from that horrible family.

Now I’m going to live my life with my fiancé.
