Chapter 45 A Good Distraction
Ryland
We arrive at the drive-in not too long later and look around for Ben and Lola. We spot them at a space close to the front. Ben is leaning against his car while Lola is standing in the middle of the free space next to them.
Gracie laughs when she sees her. “It would seem Lola is making sure no one steals our spot.”
“It would seem that way.”
We drive over, and only then does Lola move so we can pull in. The movie doesn’t start for another half an hour. We park and climb out to see them.
“Finally! Come on, let’s go and get some snacks.” Lola says and glances over at Gracie.
Gracie chuckles and shakes her head. “You couldn’t have gotten them without me?”
“No, because Ben wouldn’t come with me,” she replies, narrowing her eyes at him.
Gracie and Lola disappear to get some snacks. I take the spot next to Ben.
“Is everything okay?”
I nod and smile. “Yes, everything is fine.”
“How do you think the girls will handle a horror movie?” he asks.
“Oh, I am sure they will pretend to be scared as an excuse to get cuddles.” I chuckle.
“Probably, but I won’t mind.”
I shake my head, knowing he would say that. “Oh, I am sure you won’t.”
“What about you two? Have you moved to the. Next level yet?”
“No, Gracie isn’t ready for that, which is fine.”
Ben smiles at my words. “You really like her, huh?”
I glance over to where she is and smile too. “Yes, I do, very much.”
I notice the girls are ready to come back, so the conversation ends there. Their hands are full of snacks. Ben and I look at one another, laugh and shake our heads.
“You two are never going to eat that much,” Ben says.
Lola kisses him. “I wouldn’t be so sure about that, baby.”
I saw the girls coming back over, so we ended the conversation there. Ben and I looked at each other, shaking our heads when we noticed the number of snacks they came back with. We hang around outside the car until it is time for the movie to start.
Gracie has a grip on my arm, her face hiding in it. We are nearly at the end of the movie. She doesn’t seem to be a big fan of horror movies. She has spent most of it hiding and squealing.
I laugh loudly. “Aww, don’t worry, brown eyes, I got you.”
Gracie huffs and playfully slaps my chest. “Stop making fun of me, jerk.”
I can’t help it. It is funny and cute watching her freak out. It isn’t that scary. Well, not to me, but everyone is different.
I wrap my arm around her. “I am sorry, sweetness. I can distract you from it, if you like?”
She raises her brow at me. “And how do you plan on doing that?”
I don’t know what is going on in her head, but I am sure it isn’t the same as what is on
mine.
I raise my brow back at her. “Making out. What did you think I meant?”
“I don’t know what goes on in a male teenager’s head.” She laughs.
“Only that, I promise.”
Gracie inches closer to me. “I can do that. It will be a great distraction.”
I close the small gap between us and claim her lips in mine. She moans softly and slips her arms around my neck. The movie ends in like ten minutes. I can distract her with my lips until then. It shouldn’t be hard.
The kisses start slowly, softly, but it doesnt’t last long. It is quick to become heated. Gracie slips her fingers into my hair, tugging it as the kiss deepens. It is my turn to moan. I tried to hold it in, but that clearly didn’t work. I am trying to keep my damn hormones in check because I don’t want to push. Gracie isn’t making it easy for me with the way she is kissing me and pulling at my hair.
“We should stop,” I mumble into her lips before I hesitantly draw away. “I don’t want to push you, and my hormones are getting the better of me,” I add through my heavy breaths.
Gracie rolls her eyes. She didn’t want to stop. “You are probably right. My hormones are going crazy, too, right now.” She sighs and rests back against the seat.
I am not the only one who struggles to take control. I turn to the screen to see the titles rolling. “At least I distracted you long enough until the movie ended.” I chuckle, trying to lighten the mood.
It works because Gracie laughs and nods in agreement. She pecks my lips before she climbs out of the car. I gather myself and follow. We need to see what the plans were from here.
“Where are we going now?” Lola asks.
“We can grab pizza and head back to mine and hang out for a bit. My parents won’t mind.” Ben suggests.
We all nod, agreeing to the plan. It is better than hanging around outside or in the car. I am in no rush to get home. My mom knows by now I will come back when I come back. Gracie is staying with me, so we can stay out until whenever. I won’t keep her out too late, though.
