Chapter 8
Nate's POV:
"Relax, I was just curious," she rushed out immediately before I could reply and stood up to leave.
"I'm not—I didn't kiss you to get over her." I replied firmly and she licked her lips, looking away from me. I couldn't understand what the hell I was feeling but Rebecca was not in my mind anytime when I was with Samantha and in fact I just realized that I was completely over her.
"You don't need to explain, Mr. Wilson. It's pure lust between us, and we should put an end to it before it gets out of hand," she said in anger and waited for me to stand up.
"You are mad," I stated as a matter of fact while she scoffed in response.
"Let's go," she replied and kept walking without bothering to see if I was following her.
"Wait," I called out, rushing outside the restaurant, "Samantha, stop!" I yelled, making her halt on her step.
"Sam." She muttered, turning around slowly.
"What?"
"Call me Sam, I hate it when people call me Samantha." I chuckled at her response.
"Alright, Sam. Look, the reason I hesitated to reply back there was because only after you asked I realized that Rebecca was no longer in my mind," I explained while she fixed her gaze to the ground.
"I kissed you because I wanted to and not because I wanted to get over her," I assured her.
"Okay. We should get going," she unlocked her car and got in without saying another word, and I was confused by her behavior. She got mad about Rebecca and now she was behaving as if she didn't care.
God, this woman was frustrating me.
"You are driving me insane." I muttered, buckling my seatbelt while she maintained a straight face.
"What do you want me to do?" she asked, fixing her gaze to the road.
"Why did you ask about Rebecca and get mad?"
"Please, I didn't get mad. I just wanted to be a sure if you were attracted to me or just using me as a distraction."
"Well, now you know. I enjoyed having lunch with you." I stated, turning towards her slightly.
"Of course you did. It ended up with you fingering me," she replied without any emotion in her voice.
"I enjoyed talking with you and that was just a bonus, baby girl." I smirked, placing my hand lightly on her thigh. She slapped my hand away and remained silent and it looked like she was lost in her thoughts.
"So?" I asked wondering where we exactly stood right now. Do we start dating or ignore this burning desire? I had no freaking idea.
"So what?" she played dumb and I pinched the bridge of my nose in frustration.
"What about us?"
"What 'us'? There was no 'us' in the first place. We go back to work and mind our own business," she replied coldly and I felt the anger built up inside of me. We just had an amazing lunch and I found myself actually liking her. It wasn't just the physical attraction between us. I was genuinely curious about her and the more I spoke with her, the more I wanted to get to know her.
Didn't she feel the same way?
"Fine," I muttered and looked outside the window. I just wanted to get out of her car as she was getting on my nerves. Once we reached the office, I got out of her car and slammed the door shut with such force that she jerked a little in her seat.
"Woah! You either smile like crazy or look like you are about to murder someone," Ryan teased me and I gave him a look that shut him up for good.
I didn't speak with anyone for the rest of the day and went home in a sour mood. She was so confusing and annoying and I had no idea why she consumed my head so much. I couldn't stay away from here and being close to her obviously ends up in a steamy make out session.
Should I ask her out or something?
Was if she turns me down?
Heck! Was I ready in the first place?
Man, this was all so fucked up.
The next few weeks, I never saw her much and tried to avoid her at any cost. My assumption was, she was doing the same thing. She used Ryan to communicate whatever she wanted and to be honest, I missed her. I missed her sexy voice, her smart mouth, her smile, her anger, and literally everything about her. The thought of storming into her office and kissing the hell out of her did cross my mind a lot of times but I didn't want to complicate things. If she wanted us to mind our own business then that's what I was going to do.
"Hey, Nate." I heard Amy's voice and turned out. She looked down at me smiling and I noticed that she looked different than usual. She was wearing a low-cut blouse that showed off her cleavage, and it was so unlike her.
"Hi, Amy." I smiled, blinking a few times.
"Are you busy?" she asked, touching my shoulder lightly and I gave her a tight smile.
"Not really. What's up?" I asked, letting out a huge breath.
"Well, I was wondering...ummm...if you would like to go out with me sometime?" she asked, playing with the ends of her hair.
Oh boy!
"Uhhh...I'm sorry, Amy. I don't think that's a good idea because Ryan is interested in you and there is this bro code and stuff. You get it, right?" I spoke, scratching my forehead, hoping that she would understand and let this go.
"Oh, Ryan is interested in me?" she asked in a surprised tone and I nodded with a small smile.
"I didn't know that," she mumbled, not meeting my gaze, and I stood up from my seat.
"We will always be good friends, Amy. It's just that, I've never seen you in that way," I explained and she nodded with a small smile even though her face fell a bit.
"Ummm...thank you for being honest," she replied and pulled me in for a hug. I hugged her back.
"Of course and we could always hang out as friends," I pulled back from her, ruffling her hair a bit.
"Alright," she giggled and continued, "Also, don't tell Ryan that you told me he liked me." She whispered and I nodded in response, chuckling a bit. She walked out of my cubicle after saying a goodbye and I let out a huge sigh, turning to my side to see Samantha quickly averting her gaze from me and continued to walk towards the break room swiftly.
Did she see everything?
Fuck, she must have assumed the worst.
I walked inside the break room and found her back facing me. She was wearing a blue sheath dress that was hugging every inch of her body and her hair was swept to one side, showing off her slender neck. I wanted nothing but to kiss her neck and hug her from behind.
God, I missed her so much.
"Sam," I called out and she turned around with her cup of coffee, not meeting my gaze. I don't know why I followed her but I felt like I needed to explain what happened back out there and maybe break the ice a little.
"It's Ms. Perez," she uttered, looking straight into my eyes, making me roll my eyes.
"Look, Amy is just a friend. It's not what you think—" I started while she let out a small chuckle.
"God! You are so full of yourself. The world doesn't revolve around you, Mr. Wilson. Get to work instead of wasting your time," she walked past me, leaving me confused and angry yet again. I couldn't understand if she was mad or being herself anymore.
Dammit! Women are so fucking hard to read!
