Chapter 27

Eight months later, Samantha's POV:

"Where are you, Nate?" I groaned through the phone, pushing the shopping cart with one hand while balancing my phone with another.

"I'm pulling over right now, baby girl. You could have waited for five minutes before coming down to the grocery store by yourself."

"Well, it's your fault. You ate all my potato chips while watching the game last night." I complained, walking through the aisles, loading my cart with random shit that I probably wouldn't be eating.

I was eight months pregnant now and the cravings had gotten worse. Nate never let me do anything and reluctantly agreed when I told him I was going to work from home but now, I had already applied my maternity leave at the company I was currently working because of him and it was getting bored sitting at home doing nothing. So I decided to come down to the grocery store by myself "I said I was sorry for the millionth time, baby." he laughed through the phone and I tried to stay mad at him which was hopeless. He was just too cute sometimes. I was too busy on my phone that I kept going forward without paying any attention.

"Ow!" I heard a woman shriek and immediately looked up to see my shopping cart hitting the woman's back.

"Shit! Come soon before I kill you, Nate." I hissed through the phone and cut the call quickly to pay attention to the poor woman in front of me.

"I'm really so sorry. I should have paid attention. Are you hurt?" I asked with a concerned look on my face.

"Not at all. Totally understandable," she let out a small laugh, pointing at my belly and I smiled at her. She was really pretty with strawberry blonde hair and sparkling blue eyes.

"How far along are you?" she asked me with a huge smile. She was a total stranger but she seemed so warm and friendly.

"Eight months." I replied, rubbing my belly fondly. She looked down at my cart and raised her eyebrows.

"Pregnancy cravings?" she asked with an apologetic smile and I groaned.

"Yeah, it's the worst."

"I totally feel you. I just gave birth to my baby boy recently," she replied, smiling at me.

"Awww! That's nice. I don't know the gender yet. My boyfriend wants it to be a surprise," I rolled my eyes and realized that I didn't even introduce myself, "How rude of me! I'm Samantha. You can call me Sam," I extended my hand for her to shake.

"I'm R—"

"Rebecca?" We both turned towards the voice of Nate who kept staring at her with wide eyes.

Rebecca?

I scrunched my eyebrows in confusion, and that's when realization dawned upon me.

Rebecca!

"Nate?" she whispered, displaying the same shock on her face but immediately broke into a huge smile. He looked at me quickly and rushed to my side, pulling me closer.

"What are you doing here?" he asked her, letting out a nervous laugh and I kept shifting my gaze back and forth between them, not knowing how to react.

"Grocery shopping. Nate is your boyfriend?" she asked me in a surprised tone and I nodded unable to speak anything.

"Wow! Who would have guessed it? How are you, Nate? We haven't spoken since my wedding," she asked while I felt his grip on my waist tighten.

"I'm fine. How are you and the kids?"

"I'm fine and the kids are amazing. I can't believe you are going to be a father soon. I'm so happy for you." She squealed in excitement.

"Thank you, Becs." He smiled and I raised my eyebrows at his nick name for her. He immediately cleared his throat, wiping the beads of sweat on his forehead. We all fell silent and I tucked my hair behind my ears.

"Well, from the look on your face, I guess you must have known about me." She uttered and I gave her a small nod, placing my hand on his chest possessively.

"Ummm...this is super awkward." She let out a nervous laugh, and I felt bad for behaving this way all of a sudden. Just few minutes back, we were talking in a friendly manner.

"Not at all. I'm just taken by surprise. It really is a small world, isn't it?" I smiled and felt Nate relax by my side.

"Yeah, after the wedding, I didn't try to reach out because I thought it would be difficult for Nate and I didn't want to complicate things but I really so happy to see you guys together." She smiled at both of us genuinely and I couldn't help but smile back. She was really nice and I felt stupid for being jealous in the first place.

"It's okay. I've been busy too, Becca." Nate responded back immediately.

"I can see that." She teased him with a sly look on her face, "God, we really need to catch up. I want to know all about this." She gestured towards us, making us both laugh.

"We can all have dinner this weekend or something at our place," I suggested and looked up at Nate.

"That's sounds perfect. I'll bring the kids too."

"Sure, dude. I'll text you the address."

"Alright. Come here, I missed you so much." She pulled him in for a hug and then she hugged me too lightly.

"Nate has really changed a lot and I can see why," she smiled at me, making me blush.

"Yeah, it was all her. She makes me go crazy." He teased, kissing the side of my head while I hit him playfully on his chest.

"Awww, you guys are so adorable." she cooed, "I'm so glad you hit me with your shopping cart or I wouldn't have met you or Nate,"

"Yeah, it was really nice to meet you." I laughed.

She was funny too.

"I have to go now. The kids will be waiting at home for me. We will meet soon and take care of her, Nate." She told him in stern voice and walked away from us.

I let out a huge breath and turned towards him. He still looked like he was about to shit himself and it was actually funny to seem him all flustered.

"Baby, I-I didn't expect to see her at all. I was taken off guard," he started to explain and I kissed him square on his lips.

"It's nothing, Nate. She seems really nice and friendly." I stated and kept walking.

"Damn, that's nice to hear. I really thought you were going to kill me or something." He chuckled and kept walking next to me, taking the cart from my hands. A weird thought popped into my head and I remained silent till we reached the car. He tried to talk to me, but I kept giving him one-word replies.

"Okay, what is it? Please talk to me, baby." He sighed, putting on his seatbelt and I looked up at him.

"It's just that...all these months...did you want to contact her? I mean, I could see that you missed her too. Keeping aside everything else, she was your best friend and…" I paused, swallowing hard and he kept staring at me, waiting for me to continue, "I feel like it was because of me you didn't reach out to her."

"It was my choice, Sam. I didn't want to talk to her but yeah as my best friend I did miss her but I also knew how you felt about her," he admitted honestly and I nodded in understanding.

"Well, not anymore. I feel silly being jealous of her. She is really sweet and kind. I can see why you fell for her in the first place." I mumbled under my breath.

"You are sweeter and kinder than her, baby. I did love her once but I love you more. Don't you dare feel insecure now," he stated, caressing my cheeks and I closed my eyes, loving the warmth of his hands.

"Oh man, I must have looked like a mess next to her." I pouted, looking down at the oversized sweatshirt I was wearing and my old worn-out jeans. My hair was tied up in a messy bun. He started to laugh, shaking his head.

"God, you are really cute you know that. Come here," he pulled me closer and took my lips in a deep kiss. A small moan escaped my lips involuntarily, making me squeeze my thighs in an instant.

"You should really stop moaning like that. Unless you want me to take you right here right now," he whispered against my lips, making me shudder in delight.

"Really?" I asked, getting excited and he pulled back, raising his eyebrows.

"Jesus, you are wild. I was kidding obviously. Keep it in your pants till we reach home, woman." He smirked, making me frown.

"You are such a jerk," I pushed him away and folded my arms in front of my chest with a pout.

"I'm not taking any risks, sweetheart." He replied, starting the car and soon we were on the road. I reached for the chips from the back seat and started munching on it, feeding him every now and then.

"Is it weird that I don't have a best friend?" I asked between my bites and he gave me a puzzled look.

"You don't have one?"

"No. I mean, I do have friends but not a best friend. I never really got so close with anyone except you," I explained and noticed his lips lift into a smile from the corner of my eyes.

"Then I guess I'm your best friend." He winked, making me grin widely.

"Is it so? Then would you please tell my boyfriend that he is being an ass and I might end up fucking you instead," I joked and he started to laugh so hard, holding his stomach.

Fuck, he was so adorable.

"Hmmm...I don't think he would mind so we are good to go." He played along and I shook my head with a small smile.

"You are crazy, Wilson." I let out a relaxed sigh and closed my eyes.

"So I was thinking pink."

"Mmm...what?" I asked, opening my eyes and came face to face with his chiseled jawline. He remained focused on the road while I kept admiring his facial features.

"For the baby room."

"God, Nate. For the millionth time, What if it's a boy?" I whined and he shook his head.

"It's a girl. Trust me." He smiled and I stuck out my tongue at him.

"Whatever you say. And if it's a boy, you are the one who is going to paint it blue all over again." I smirked, earning a glare from him.

"Man, this is all getting too real. Just one more month," he whispered, looking down at my belly and caressed it softly.

"Yeah, mommy and daddy can't wait to meet you." I whispered to our baby and felt his gaze in me.

"What?"

"Nothing," he smiled and continued to drive.

"You are being creepy, Mr. Wilson." He started to laugh and took my hands, placing a small kiss on it.

"God, what would I do without you!" He sighed. Little did he know how many times I have asked myself the same question.

What the hell would I do without him?
