Chapter 12

Samantha's POV:

I blinked open my eyes at the rays of sunlight hitting my face and immediately pulled the covers over my head. I tried to close my eyes and go back to sleep but felt an arm around my waist pulling me closer and my back hit against a hard chest.

"Go back to sleep," Nate whispered and I was fully awake now. The memories of last night were coming back to me and a huge grin broke on my face. It was the best night of my life and my cheeks actually hurt from smiling a lot. Thankfully my back was facing towards him and he wasn't able to see my face.

"What time is it?" I asked in a sleepy voice but got no response. I tried to reach for my phone on the bed stand and saw that it was around 7 am in the morning. I let out a huge sigh and tried to get out of the bed slowly without waking him up.

I picked up his dress shirt from the floor and wore it all the while gazing at his sleeping form. He looked so peaceful and adorable with his messy hair covering his forehead. I felt an unfamiliar emotion tug at my heart and it scared the shit out of me. I didn't want to jump into anything soon but at the same time I was greedy for more. I craved more of him with every passing second and I knew it wasn't just the sex. I was starting to like him and it freaked me out.

What if he doesn't like me that way and it was just about the sex for him? What if he leaves me too? My mind was filled with all such negative thoughts until I let out a huge breath, shaking my head to get rid of them.

"Just go with the flow, Sam. Don't ruin this." I muttered under my breath and walked outside his room. It was a cute little apartment with another bedroom to the left which was locked and a kitchen and a living room. It had a bit of feminine touch to it and I wondered if he had a roommate or something.

I decided to take a quick shower and got dressed in my previous night's outfit. After throwing my hair in a messy bun, I entered inside the kitchen to make some coffee for both of us. I had no idea if I was doing the right thing. Was it okay to make coffee? I mean, it wasn't a one-night stand, right? He would want me to be here in the morning.

Positive thoughts!

"There you are. I thought you left and had a mini heart attack," I heard his deep voice behind me and turned around to see him walking towards me with nothing but his boxers.

Fuck, he was definitely a sight for sore eyes.

"I was making us some coffee," I rolled my eyes at his comment while he kissed my cheeks.

"I missed you, baby girl," he mumbled against my ears and his beard tickled me causing me to giggle like a little girl.

"Stop doing that," I pushed him away, placing my hand on his naked chest but he didn't move an inch.

"I love it when you giggle like that," he chuckled, kissing my neck and I let out a relaxed sigh.

"Do you have a roommate or something?" I asked out of curiosity and he scrunched his eyebrows in confusion.

"No, why?"

"Well, you apartment looks a bit girly so I thought you were having a roommate or something," I shrugged causally, pouring out the coffee.

"Uhhhh...umm...I did have a roommate," he confessed, not meeting my gaze.

"Was it a girl? Oh, did you sleep with her or something? Because I've heard that it never works out...you know, a guy and a girl living together," I paused, taking a sip of my coffee and continued, "Just like the friends with benefits kind of thing," I teased and handed him a cup of coffee. He reminded silent and his face went all serious. I placed the cup on the counter with a frown on my face.

"Are you okay?" I asked in confusion.

"Rebecca was my roommate." He stated and looked right into my eyes.

Holy shit!

"What?"

Silence.

"Rebecca as in your best friend?"

"Yes."

"The one that you were in love with?"

"Yes."

"Were in love or still in love?" I blurted out, blinking back the tears that were threatening to fall any time now.

He was living together with her?

How can he move on so quickly?

Oh my God!

"Look, it was only for a month and then she moved out." He started to explain but my mind went blank and all I wanted to get out of there immediately.

"I think I should leave," I placed the cup on the kitchen counter and was about to walk past him but he stopped me, pulling me by my arm.

"What? Why?" he breathed out, confusion lacing his tone.

"You were living with her Nate and I don't think you have moved on. I mean, no one can move on that easily unless they weren't truly in love." I rushed out as my heart started to race wildly.

"I've moved on, Sam. Don't do this. I've made it clear to you already." He ran his fingers through his hair and had a pained look on his face.

"How can you possibly move on so quickly? It's only been what...like a month since her wedding. I don't want to be anybody's fucking rebound," I hissed in anger and I could literally see myself ruining everything. It was perfect few moments ago and I knew I was being stupid. My insecurities won yet again and I did the one thing that I was really good at, pushing people away.

I was pushing him away.

"You are not a rebound, Sam. I do admit the way we met was not entirely romantic but I do feel something for you." He tried to explain but I shook my head.

"I don't know, Nate. How can I be sure you won't feel the same way for another girl given how easily you can move on?" I asked with a straight face and he looked at me like I have grown two horns.

"You are being ridiculous," he replied and I could see his nose, flaring up in anger.

"Tell me you don't feel anything for me and I swear, I won't bother you again." He whispered and I remained silent before walking outside the kitchen.

"You know what, you are a fucking coward." he yelled, making me turn around.

"Yes, that's right. You heard me. You want a way out of this just because things are getting serious and you actually feel something for me too," he spat out in anger.

It was like he was seeing right through me.

"You know nothing about me," I whispered even though he was freakishly right.

I was a fucking coward.

"Exactly," he paused, and we kept staring at each other. "At least, I was willing to give this a try, unlike you," he replied with no emotion in his face, and I turned around to walk towards his room to collect my things.

"Why are you doing this? God, you are frustrating me to the core, woman. We just had an amazing night." He followed me behind and I remained silent. I wanted to give this a try too but I was scared. I was scared of how strongly I felt for him in a single date.

He must probably hate me right now.

"And look at us, already a mess." I replied dryly and walked outside his room, carrying my purse.

"Let's just talk. Please stay," He kept following me outside but I kept walking even though I wanted to just turn around and kiss the hell out of him.

"You know what, just leave. I don't care anymore." He went inside his room and shut the door so loudly, making me jerk a little. I wanted to go in so badly and hug him but this was for the best. We were both messed up in different ways.

I walked outside his apartment slowly and leaned against the wall, letting the tears fall down my cheeks finally.

What the hell did I just do?
