Chapter 69. We Are Sneaky
Levi
I would think things can't get worse, but I am scared to say that. There are not many things that scare me, but Raine being gone and not knowing what is going on is one of them. The biggest is not knowing what kind of danger she is in. all I can do is sit here and think of things that may be happening to her. Also, I am worried about Luca because he has not returned since he shifted and ran out of the house. It's been a while I may need to look for him. I wish Raine would have talked to us, and we came up with a plan together. I shake the thoughts from my head and go to grab my sneakers. I will look for him on foot before I shift and look. As I walk to grab my shoes, I see dad and Flo coming my way.
"Have you heard anything from anyone yet?" I ask dad.
"I talked to Grayson a few minutes ago. They have been trying to hold down their pack. There have been a few attacks, and someone left a box similar to one left on our porch at their packhouse. They have spotted some rouges outside their borders. But they have not tried to enter. They have not heard anything about Raine. We also decided not to tell anyone that she is gone." He says, filling me in.
"Why are we not telling anyone she is gone? Wouldn't that help with finding her if more people know to look for her?" I ask him, not understanding.
"Yes and no, we don't need anyone else that is trying to hurt her looking for her too." His logic is sound. We don't even know who is looking for her and their plans.
"I understand. Have you heard anything from Luca? I have tried to mindlink with him, but I can't."
"No, I haven't. However, you might want to go look for him."
"That is where I was headed now. I have to grab my shoes first." I tell dad as I walk off. I get my shoes on and head out the back door. I try to pick up his scent, but I guess it has been too long. I head for the woods, but I am stopped when I hear Kane hollering my name. I turn to see him jogging in my direction.
"Hey man, are you headed to look for Luca?"
"Yeah, did you see which way he went?"
"No, but a few of the guys did. Is it ok if I look with you?"
"I don't care. The more of us, the better chance of finding him." I tell him, and we start toward the woods.
"He ran in this direction, but no one followed him, so I don't know anything other than that." The direction he pointed out is how we would go to head to the old treehouse. That might be where he ran to.
"That's cool. At least we got a starting point." I say as we continue to walk. We had got a half a mile or so in the woods, and neither one of us had said a word. We were both trying to catch Luca's scent, with no luck.
"So she traded herself for Emma and Mia, huh?" Kane finally says, breaking the silence.
"Yeah, but how did you know?" I asked cause dad said we were not telling anyone.
"Mia told me. I was talking to her and my sister."
"Don't say anything to anyone else. We are trying to keep it quiet." He nods his head, and we continue walking.
"What do you think of the warlock?"
"You talking about Barrett?" I ask, not sure what all he knows.
"Yeah, the one staying at the packhouse."
"I don't know him that well. He is a friend of my father's."
"Well, I don't know how good of friends they are. My sister overheard him talking on the phone. He was telling someone to continue to stalk the borders but to wait on his call before attacking. I don't think he was talking about us because there has not been anyone sneaking around our borders, but why would he be doing that to anyone." I let Kane's words sink in. Could he have been talking about Grayson's pack?
"Did she hear anything else?"
"No, but me and a few of the other guys have seen him sneaking around outside of the packhouse. Every time he would go out, he watched his surroundings like he did not want anyone to see him. I guess he forgot that we are werewolves and sneaky." He says before laughing.
"Where was he going when he snuck out?"
"Don't know could never track him. It was like he vanished."
"Makes sense cause warlocks can teleport," I tell him but my mind starts working a mile a minute. What if he is helping his brother? What if he has been reporting our every move all along?
"I got his scent," Kane says, and I must have been so in my thoughts that I didn't pick it up, but now I can smell it too. We both head in the direction that his scent is coming from. It is not the treehouse-like, I thought, though. We break through the woods to a clearing, and I see Luca sitting in the middle of the clearing in his human form, but he has no clothes on. Guess he didn't think to grab any when he took off. I make my way back to the edge of the woods to one of the trees we keep spare clothes in and grab him a pair of shorts. I walk around and notice that Kane has waited on me. I nod my head toward Luca, and we both make our way over to him.
"Here, throw these on before you get grass in your ass," I tell him as I those the shorts at his head. He catches them without even looking at me. He slides the shorts on without even getting up. Me and Kane both take a seat next to him.
"I haven't been to this clearing since we were kids," I say, looking around. Rogues killed my uncle and a few other pack members in this clearing.
"Me either. We were 13, right?"
"Yeah, we were lucky but stupid at the same time," I say, not elaborating on what happened. Even though I know Kane doesn't know what we are talking about. I know he would understand with his past.
"Why did she take off without talking to us. We could have come up with a plan. Something anything other than her taking off without a word."
"I know what you mean, but she didn't leave without a word. At least she left us the note. She is always going to do what is best for others. Hell, she is the light remember. She is the goodness in this world." I say even though I am still upset at her for leaving.
"I know, but we are her mates. So don't we have a right to be included in her decisions? Hell, she would disagree with us not talking to her and making a choice together." I know he is correct, but he must calm down and listen to reason.
"Your right, but it will not do us any good to dwell on that now. We need to find a way to get her back. We can only do that together."
"If I might speak without pissing you off, I don't think Raine did this to hurt either of you. I think in her mind, it was the right thing to do. If I were you two, I would be more worried about what is going on under your nose."
"What the hell are you talking about?" Luca says, looking more irritated.
"Come on, brother. We will fill you in on the way back." I tell him as I go to stand. I have a lot to catch him up on before we get back to the packhouse. I need to warn dad to before we get back.
