Chapter 79

Chapter 79
The safehouse is a contradiction bare as a monk’s cell, but more expensive than most penthouses in the city. The walls are concrete, waxed to a gunmetal shine; the furniture is all sharp lines and cold leather, as if comfort were a sin that needed purging. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the city’s ragged hem, the skyline fractured by rain and the high-gloss blur of traffic. Every surface is wet with condensation, as if even the glass can’t decide whether to weep or breathe.

Bell paces. She’s been pacing for hours, the click of her boots echoing in the cavernous living room. Sometimes she stops to look at her reflection in the window, but all she sees is a shadow cut out of night—an outline with no inside. The old sense of self, the one built on discipline and survival and the belief that you could out-think your blood, has been leveled. All that remains is the question of what comes next.

The door beeps at midnight. Dante enters first, as silent as the rain, hair slicked down and coat still dripping. He looks at her, and for the first time since childhood, he doesn’t try to hide his confusion. He sets his bag on the counter, then leans against the wall with his hands in his pockets, watching her as if she’s a rare and dangerous animal.

Luca arrives half an hour later, tracking in cigarette smoke and rainwater. He’s got a busted knuckle—probably broke it on a dashboard, or maybe a wall—but he acts as if pain is something you can wear like jewelry. He doesn’t talk at first, just heads for the bar, pouring a triple and draining it in two swallows.

Three of them, in a room that feels too small for all their memories.

No one speaks. Even the city outside is quiet, as if waiting for the verdict.

Bell is the first to break. She stands at the center of the room, fists balled at her sides. “Does this change anything?” she asks. Her voice is hoarse, like she’s been screaming underwater.

Dante is slow to answer. He stares at the floor, tracing the lines in the stone with his boot. “Maybe it should,” he says. “But I don’t know how.”

Luca laughs, not unkindly. “That’s the best thing about us, isn’t it? We never gave a fuck about the rules.” He walks over, kneels in front of Bell, and takes her hands. For once, there’s no playfulness in him, only a desperate sincerity. “Blood doesn’t mean shit to me. We choose our family every day.”

Dante, still at the window, finally turns around. He looks at Bell, then at Luca, and for a moment he’s a little boy again, lost in a house full of monsters. But then his face hardens, and he crosses the room, stopping just close enough to touch her. “We’ve never been conventional,” he says, voice soft. “Why start now?”

Bell wants to cry, but the tears won’t come. Instead, she yanks Luca to his feet, and for a second they just stand there, forehead to forehead, breathing each other in. Dante steps forward, hands shaking, and wraps them both in his arms.

They hold each other for a long time. The city outside flickers, rain sheeting down the glass, until it feels like the only thing real is this knot of bodies in the dark.
It's Bell who moves first, her lips parting as she leans in, pressing her mouth against Luca's with desperate need. His tongue slides between her lips, tasting of whiskey and desire. She moans softly as his hands find her waist, fingers digging into her hips, pulling her body flush against his hard chest. Behind her, Dante's hot breath tickles her neck before his lips brush the sensitive skin below her ear. His strong hands slide up her ribcage, thumbs grazing the undersides of her breasts as Bell reaches back, threading her fingers through his thick hair, arching her body between the two men.
They stumble together to the bedroom, fingers fumbling with buttons and zippers. Luca's hands slide beneath Bell's silk blouse, his calloused fingertips tracing fire up her bare stomach. She gasps as Dante steps behind her, his hot breath on her neck as he slowly peels the wet fabric from her shoulders. The blouse drops to the floor with a whisper. Dante's fingers trail up her spine, unhooking her lace bra with practiced ease. The straps slide down her arms, revealing her full breasts, nipples hardening in the cool air. Bell stands trembling between them, her dragon tattoo writhing across her ribs with each shallow breath. Luca drops to his knees, his tongue tracing the inked scales, following the creature's tail down to the waistband of her pants while his thumb circles her navel. His lips find the spot where her pulse throbs beneath delicate skin, sucking gently until she moans.

Dante is gentler, but no less intense. He cradles her head between his large hands, his thumbs brushing her flushed cheekbones as he lowers his mouth to hers. His kiss starts soft—a whisper of lips against lips—before deepening, his tongue sliding against hers in a slow, deliberate rhythm that makes her knees weak. His hands slide down the curve of her spine, fingertips counting each vertebra before gripping the soft flesh of her hips, hard enough to leave marks. Luca, always the faster one, has already stripped, his muscled body gleaming in the half-light, tattoos shifting across his skin like living shadows. He pulls her backward onto the king-sized bed, the expensive sheets cool against her heated skin as their limbs entangle, her soft curves yielding against his hard planes.
Bell wants to drown in them. She gasps as Dante's strong fingers encircle her wrists, pinning them firmly above her head against the cool silk sheets. Her back arches involuntarily as Luca's hot mouth finds the sensitive spot where her neck meets her shoulder. His teeth graze her skin, then bite down—gently at first, then harder until she moans, the sharp sting melting into waves of pleasure that ripple through her body. Dante's lips trail down her collarbone, his tongue leaving a wet path between her breasts before his mouth captures her nipple. The heat of his tongue contrasts with the light scrape of teeth, sending electric pulses straight to her core. Meanwhile, Luca's calloused hands slide down her sides, his thumbs pressing into her hip bones as his mouth follows, tongue tracing circles around her navel before dipping lower.

Bell arches her back, her naked body trembling between their muscular frames. Her breasts rise and fall with each ragged breath, nipples hardened to sensitive peaks. Heat pools between her thighs as their hands explore every inch of her skin. "Please," she whispers, her voice breaking with need, lips parted and swollen from their kisses. Her fingers dig into Dante's shoulders as Luca's mouth trails fire down her stomach. The word escapes her like a prayer, a confession of desire she can no longer contain.

Luca slips two fingers inside her, the motion slow but devastating. His thick digits curl upward, finding that sensitive spot that makes her gasp. She rocks against his hand, her slick heat clenching around him as he works her open. Dante's mouth follows the trail of goosebumps down her stomach, his tongue tracing hot circles on her inner thighs. When he finally enters her with one powerful thrust, the stretch is exquisite—her body yielding, trembling as he fills her completely, inch by delicious inch until their bodies are flush.
Luca shifts his weight, one muscular thigh on either side of her shoulders, his tattoos rippling as he positions himself above her parted lips. Bell's tongue darts out first, tasting the glistening bead at his tip before she takes him slowly into her mouth, inch by throbbing inch. The salt and smoke of him floods her senses, anchoring her as Dante's powerful body works between her trembling thighs. Luca's fingers weave through her hair, tightening gradually until her scalp tingles with sweet pain. He groans—low, filthy words that make her hollow cheeks flush—as she hollows them further, creating a vacuum that pulls him deeper. Meanwhile, Dante's rhythm transforms from measured to urgent, his hips snapping forward with increasing force, each precise thrust sending electric ripples of pleasure from her core up her arching spine.

They lose themselves in each other. Bell's body tightens, her back arching impossibly as waves of pleasure radiate from her core. Her thighs tremble against Dante's hips, her inner walls clenching around him in rhythmic pulses. Her cry of ecstasy vibrates around Luca's thickness, her throat constricting as she struggles to maintain her rhythm. Dante's powerful body shudders above her, his fingers digging into the soft flesh of her hips as he drives deeper, his release hot and urgent inside her. Luca's breathing grows ragged, his muscled abdomen tensing as he watches her take his brother's pleasure while still servicing him. With a final, guttural groan of her name, he pulses against her tongue, his release bitter-salt and primal as he collapses beside her on the bed.

For a while, there is only breathing, the soft rustle of skin against skin. The rain has stopped, but the city glows with the promise of a thousand new beginnings.

Bell traces lazy circles on Luca’s chest, then reaches for Dante’s hand, pulling it to her heart. She feels them both relax, as if some ancient tension has finally resolved.

“We’re not a family because we have to be,” she says, voice barely a whisper. “We’re a family because we can’t be anything else.”

Luca laughs, then kisses her forehead. “You’re such a sap.”

Dante smiles, small and perfect. “Only for you.”

They lie tangled together, bodies spent, hearts a little less guarded. Outside, the world is waiting—but in here, for one night, the Romanos are whole.
