Chapter 77 Easy to Invite, Hard to Send Away
Chapter 77 Easy to Invite, Hard to Send Away
Elsie didn't sleep all night.
From the moment she left the office until now, her heart had been pounding violently.
Only when she was with Jasper and Faye did her anxious heart ease a little.
Kenna was observant and noticed something was off, so she asked a few questions.
Elsie used work stress as an excuse, saying she needed to rest well.
After putting the kids to bed, she sat by the bedroom window, from nightfall until sunrise the next day.
She didn't close her eyes all night.
She was scared.
Trapped in overwhelming fear.
It wasn't about worrying over being bullied by Wren and Jada recently.
Nor was she worried about Daniel coming over to yell at her in anger.
If only it were just that.
The problem was that Daniel and Rhett exchanged a few words after Chris left, very businesslike and polite, saying that the Wilson family would definitely land this deal.
Rhett nodded, glanced at Elsie, and left.
The whole time, Daniel didn't look at her once.
Elsie felt panicked.
She chased after him, following behind and saying, "Mr. Wilson, let me explain. About this matter, I think..."
Daniel didn't even turn his head and just left.
No anger—that was the scariest part.
The sun gradually rose.
Elsie made breakfast for the kids and woke up Kenna, who was still sleeping.
While making breakfast, she made an extra portion for herself.
She used to eat breakfast at the office, but to save money, she now had breakfast at home.
Because she had a really bad feeling—she might get fired.
Lose this job.
Losing a job wasn't the main worry, but the problem was offending the Wilson family.
Especially those three—Jada, Wren, and Aria. With their power, they could definitely make it impossible for her to survive in Emerald City.
That was the scariest part.
But no matter what, she had to face it.
Once she got to the office, she'd know everything.
Elsie was anxious the whole way.
She almost missed her bus stop.
Actually, missing it wouldn't have mattered, because Elsie was usually the first one to arrive at the office.
But today, when she got there, everyone was already there.
A colleague said in surprise, "Elsie, why are you just getting here?"
Elsie was stunned. "Did the company change its work hours?"
The colleague was quite curious and confused. "Aren't you part of the project team for the Wilson family and Morgan family collaboration? Didn't you know that Chris came yesterday and messed things up, the partnership was interrupted, and last night everyone was notified to come in early to discuss solutions?"
Elsie's mind went blank.
Sure enough, she'd been sidelined since last night.
She'd been watching the work group chat all evening.
No one said anything, not a single notification.
"Something came up yesterday, I forgot."
Elsie made up an excuse and quickly sat down at her desk.
Ronan hadn't arrived yet.
Of the three—Aria, Jada, and Wren—only Wren was there. Aria and Jada's offices were empty.
She sat at her desk like she was counting down.
Waiting for fate's judgment.
She regretted it so much. Yesterday, when delivering the documents, Aria kept calling her, saying she had to deliver them as fast as possible.
Aria basically called every minute.
"Why haven't you delivered it yet!"
"It's been so long!"
"What are you good for, slower than a snail!"
Elsie knew this was harassment, too.
Five minutes—to print the documents, organize and package them, then get from the office to the courier station at the entrance.
Even someone with wings couldn't deliver it that fast.
Plus, the elevator was really backed up then; it took over ten minutes to wait for it.
Sigh, if she hadn't been rushing down, she wouldn't have fallen.
If she hadn't fallen, she wouldn't have run into Rhett and Chris, and Chris wouldn't have seen the contract contents.
That way, even if Chris interfered with the deal, it wouldn't have been because of her.
Just then, the electronic door to the lobby opened.
She heard Aria and Jada's voices, as if they were discussing something.
It sounded like they were talking about some order from Daniel. Jada especially seemed to be in a really bad mood.
The two were walking fast and in a moment reached the business team area.
Elsie quickly turned her eyes to the computer screen, pretending to work.
She was really scared.
But the thing was, Aria and Jada acted like they didn't see her at all, each going into their own offices.
What's going on?
Had things been resolved?
That didn't make sense. She looked at her colleagues around her—they were still working on the partnership quotes, constantly calculating costs.
While she was thinking about this.
The HR person from PAT Marketing Company walked over to her, looking a bit conflicted, about to say something, but holding back.
She just quietly placed a notice in front of her.
"Suspension Notice."
"Due to Elsie leaking company secrets, causing the contract progress to be blocked, Elsie's position is temporarily suspended, awaiting further disciplinary action."
"PAT Marketing Company Deputy Director: Signed by Wren."
Elsie was stunned. Her worst fear had happened.
She was fired.
No, wait—temporarily suspended, not fired, awaiting further action.
Meaning there was still a chance?
The dying flame in Elsie's heart flickered with a bit of warmth again.
She stood up from her desk with a start and walked straight toward Wren's office.
No matter what, even if Wren slapped her, even if Wren stood up and kicked her or hit her this time, she had to try.
She knocked on Wren's office door.
"Come in."
"...Ms. Kelly."
Wren didn't even look up, quietly handing Elsie a resignation form.
"You fill this out, I'll give you a year's salary, and I'll help you find your next job. How about it?"
What does this mean?
Wren was being so polite while forcing her out?
She'd only been at PAT Marketing Company for a few days, and Wren had specifically requested her to come over just to torture Elsie.
Why was she being so polite now, offering Elsie generous compensation?
Elsie had expected that after entering the office, Wren would explode in anger, yell at her loudly, maybe even hit and kick her.
This was so weird. Why was she acting like this now?
"...Ms. Kelly, this situation is complicated. I want to make up for my mistake. Please give me this chance, Ms. Kelly."
Wren froze, looking at her in disbelief, as if looking at an alien.
You could tell she was angry—her lips and eyes were trembling, as if she might explode at any moment.
But she held it in, took a deep breath, and said in the calmest voice possible:
"Then get lost."
