Chapter 168 Speech
Chapter 168 Speech
Evelyn had given Arthur countless reminders and instructions, and Arthur naturally kept them all in mind, reaching out to hold her in his arms.
Two days later, Theodore arranged for a private plane, and Jerry came along with the security team.
To ensure Arthur's safety and give Evelyn some peace of mind, they had made thorough preparations.
However, when Arthur arrived in Silverlight City, he discovered that Euro New Ventures Group had already obtained some of the original project files. Clearly, someone had been continuously leaking data from the inside.
He quickly froze the overseas accounts and requested a temporary investigation order through an international cooperation organization.
Arthur naturally told Evelyn about this, and Evelyn was shocked.
"Internal data leak..."
She could hardly imagine who could be doing this. Everyone seemed suspicious, yet there was no solid evidence.
It was as if someone was hiding in the shadows, secretly watching them, which was really creepy.
"Who could it be?"
Arthur couldn't figure out who it was for the moment and reminded her, "Things aren't stable on your end either. Be careful and watch out for any criminals trying to break in again."
Evelyn nodded seriously and replied, "You too, Arthur. The kids and I are waiting for you to come home safely."
She didn't want anything bad to happen to their little family. Everyone needed to be okay.
The domestic public opinion kept flaring up, and then Evelyn was asked by the National Education and Security Joint Committee to give a keynote speech at an international forum on short notice.
This wasn't a simple or easy task. Even her assistant Clare asked hesitantly, "Sarah, do we really have to go to this forum?"
"The situation outside is unstable right now, and some voices are targeting you. If you go and give this speech, people with bad intentions might use it to cause trouble."
Evelyn had naturally thought of this. She understood that as a public figure, being talked about and criticized was unavoidable.
That's exactly why she needed to guide the public toward the right path.
"Whether I go or not, people with bad intentions will make an issue of it anyway. Besides, this is what the National Education and Security Joint Committee wants. I'm not really in a position to refuse."
Evelyn answered calmly and steadily while preparing her speech. "Since I'm here, I might as well make the best of it. Since it's come to this, I should make good use of this rare opportunity to show everyone that both I and the foundation have nothing to hide."
Seeing her so confident and composed, Clare knew that any further persuasion would be useless, so she joined in to help.
In the blink of an eye, the day of the speech arrived. Evelyn dressed appropriately and elegantly and came to the hall of the international forum.
The place was packed with people, and the atmosphere was solemn.
Evelyn's speech topic was the boundary between civilian security and arts education. During her speech, she reviewed the entire process from military training to the Conservation Plan, pointing out that the security of human society depends not only on systems and technology but also on cultural and psychological development.
"Rationality and humanity must go hand in hand. I also hope everyone can look at the whole matter with a scientific and progressive perspective. Whatever we want to do, we're committed to building a better society."
Her advanced ideas received thunderous applause from the audience and sparked widespread response both domestically and internationally.
"Sarah really lives up to her reputation. She's so calm and composed in this kind of setting, and she speaks so well!"
"Building a human society does depend on culture and psychology. The two are inseparably related. Finally, someone has brought this up!"
"Sarah spoke so well. Only she could handle such a high-quality speech!"
This speech became a turning point in public opinion and set the tone for the whole matter.
Evelyn returned to the studio and let out a long breath, feeling like she had accomplished something big.
Clare led her colleagues in presenting her with flowers and cake, along with warm applause.
"Sarah, congratulations on finishing your speech successfully!"
"Your speech got such a good response. I saw so many comments praising you!"
Evelyn smiled and accepted the flowers, feeling especially relaxed and happy. "Everyone has worked hard during this time. You've all done your jobs well, which gave me the energy to prepare for the speech."
"I'm giving everyone bonuses this time. Take some time to relax!"
Hearing about the bonuses, everyone cheered.
Evelyn left the office with the flowers and went home.
At home, besides the four children, there was also her brother Theodore. Worried that the children might be in danger without anyone to look after them, he often came to check on them.
"Mommy!"
When the children saw Evelyn come home, they ran over, and seeing the flowers in her hands made them even more delighted.
"Such pretty flowers! Who gave them to Mommy?"
"Mommy, is someone trying to win you over?"
Evelyn burst out laughing and poked their foreheads. "What are you talking about? My colleagues gave these to me to celebrate the successful completion of my speech!"
She didn't know if Arthur had told them something before he left, but the kids were keeping a close eye on her, as if afraid someone might try to make a move on her during this time.
Hearing this explanation, the children felt relieved and took the flowers to put them in a vase for her.
"Good that the speech went well," Theodore also said gently. "Arthur and I were both a bit worried, but with your abilities, you don't really need our help."
"Of course," Evelyn said with a confident smile, then asked him, "What about Arthur? How is he doing in Silverlight City now?"
"He seems to still be investigating the data leak issue, but since it involves multiple countries, the investigation isn't easy. It might take some time."
Theodore said in a low voice, then looked up. "He should find a way to solve it. He's the one you chose, so he has that much ability at least."
Evelyn nodded with a smile. Arthur wasn't a weak person, especially at times like this. To protect his family, he would do whatever it took.
She wasn't worried about whether Arthur could uncover the truth. She was more worried about him being in Silverlight City, in a place connected to Bentley, and whether he might encounter any danger.
"Stop overthinking," Theodore saw her worry and spoke up. "Jerry is there, too. With him by Arthur's side, nothing bad will happen."
She knew Jerry's abilities well. He was one of the best in the entire base and would definitely protect Arthur well.
Evelyn agreed with relief and pulled the children into her arms.
