Chapter 155 Will You Come Back Again
Chapter 155 Will You Come Back Again
The lecture came to a successful close, and Evelyn's attention returned to the children.
The kids' training camp was also coming to an end, and their mental and physical strength had clearly grown.
"Don't you think the kids have become much calmer? The change is so big it surprises me."
Evelyn flipped through the training files of the four children while discussing with Arthur.
"Of course," Arthur slowly walked to her side and hugged her from behind, saying, "The kids have worked really hard too. It's not just you who's improving—they're quietly transforming as well."
"You don't know how much the kids admire you. They see you as their role model and want to keep pushing forward in their own favorite fields just like you do."
Arthur said gently. He had noticed all the changes in the children, too.
Julian had entered the medical interest development program, John had joined the tech group, James had completed his psychological evaluation and returned to stability, and Ella was doing great in the art therapy course.
Each child was inheriting his and Evelyn's resilient character in their own way.
"I've been neglecting them," Evelyn smiled with some guilt, feeling that since coming to the base, she hadn't paid enough attention to the kids. "But they're really amazing. Theodore told me they even asked for more intense training and wouldn't give up, no matter how tired or hard it got."
Theodore was always strict and serious about his work, and everyone knew how demanding his training requirements were.
Even Evelyn had experienced it and understood how difficult it was. She hadn't expected the four children to push through without complaining even once.
"The kids take after you, so how could they give up? When they refuse to lose, they look exactly like you. Even I'm amazed watching them."
Arthur bent down and kissed her cheek, then hesitated for a few seconds before asking, "But we'll be leaving the base soon. Are you worried at all?"
Evelyn stopped what she was doing, stayed silent for a moment, then slowly let out a sigh.
"It would be a lie to say I'm not worried, but we have to face it sooner or later. We can't stay at the base forever, can we?"
Evelyn looked out the window, as if recalling something: "We came to the base because of the public attacks, not to hide, but to strengthen our hearts. Only when we become strong inside can we face the storms outside without fear."
She admitted that back then, she was a bit cowardly, a bit lost, so her body broke down too, letting the gossip hurt her deeply.
But after living at the base for a while, her thinking slowly changed.
Why should she be sad about random comments? Why should she care so much? Those people spreading rumors probably didn't even know her—they were just keyboard warriors doing it for profit or entertainment.
She didn't need to care, didn't need to worry. Living her own life well was enough.
Seeing that Evelyn had finally figured it out, Arthur felt especially relieved.
"I'm glad you think this way," he held Evelyn tightly and said with a smile, "Evelyn, we've been through so much together. There might be other storms ahead, but no matter what happens, the kids and I will be by your side."
"You can move forward without hesitation—the kids and I will definitely be your solid support!"
Hearing his promise, Evelyn couldn't help but smile and gently nod: "I believe in you all, and I believe in myself."
Arthur wasn't just talking. He actively helped with the foundation's reorganization from behind the scenes and decided to set up a youth protection project, turning their experience into a long-term public welfare system.
But happy times always pass quickly, and soon it was time to leave.
The base specially organized a farewell dinner for their family and invited Evelyn to give a summary report.
The four children had mixed feelings, sitting quietly in their seats, looking rather down.
"What's wrong with you little ones?"
Evelyn immediately noticed something was off and turned to ask them.
The children looked up at her, hesitantly opened their mouths, then closed them again, looking like they wanted to say something but couldn't.
"Why are you keeping secrets from Mommy now?"
Arthur couldn't help but laugh, reaching out to pat their heads.
"Dad, Mommy," John finally gathered the courage to ask, "Are we really leaving the base? Will we never come back?"
Thinking about the happy times they'd had here, the children felt both joy and sadness.
They had experienced an extraordinary life here. Once they left the base, they didn't know if they'd ever feel the joy that training brought them again.
"So that's what you're worried about."
Evelyn laughed right away and pulled them into her arms: "Of course not. We are leaving here, but that doesn't mean we'll never come back."
"When we have the chance and time in the future, Dad and Mommy will definitely bring you back to the base!"
She held out her pinky and promised them: "Mommy pinky swears with you, okay?"
The children immediately broke into smiles. Just moments ago, they had tears in their eyes, but now their faces were full of smiles as they reached out their fingers to pinky swear with her.
"Okay!"
"You kids are really something," Arthur couldn't help but laugh and shake his head. "Good thing your mommy spoils you."
This little episode ended there, and the four children sat happily in their seats, waiting for Evelyn to give her summary report.
Evelyn calmly stood up and began summarizing the key factors for successful mixed-team cooperation.
"Having a solid foundation is, of course, the priority. Every team member must have a strong body and good physical condition, and maintain high alertness during missions."
She looked at everyone calmly and steadily, explaining point by point: "A team also needs good coordination between members. Everyone's thinking must be aligned, and when disagreements arise, they must adjust their state immediately and follow the commander's orders."
"Because in critical moments, one wrong decision means total failure. Everyone must unite their strength like a rope twisted together and move forward firmly under the commander's leadership."
Watching her speak so energetically during the report, Arthur couldn't help but smile, his eyes crinkling at the corners.
He loved seeing Evelyn like this. When she spoke confidently about her area of expertise, that's when she was most charming and most attractive to him.
