Chapter 42 42: Chrissy

Chapter 42 42: Chrissy
Four years later.
“Daddy got trapped under a tree?” Willow asks, her face scrunched up in confusion. The perfect mixture of mom and dad, her black hair and green eyes are striking, her hair so long it brushes the back of the couch behind her.
“Daddy was absolutely not stuck under a tree,” Luther lies, scooping up his daughter and spinning her around in his penthouse.
I smile at them, leaning back and sipping my coffee before resting it on my very pregnant stomach.
“Daddy would never get stuck under a tree, Willow!” Rain says as he comes running at Mach speed out of his bedroom, dressed like Superman. “Daddy is a superhero, just like Superman!”
“Daddy was very much trapped under a tree; he just doesn't want to admit it!”
I say, holding my coffee up as Rain crawls into my lap like a monkey and snuggles in close.
“I was merely crawling under it,” Luther says, not sounding defensive in the least.
“But what was Mama doing in the woods? She was just a human, and you were way, way out there, Daddy!” Willow whines, cupping her dad’s face and stroking his cheeks.
Luther and I exchange looks and burst into laughter, “Mommy was just really lost,” Luther says weakly.
“So lost, very, very lost,” I add, tousling Rain’s hair as he wiggles against my stomach and pats it.
“Mommy used to have weak bendy parts!” Rain shouts, poking me in the knee. “She used to fall down a lot!”
“I know that!” Willow pouts and sticks her tongue out at her brother. She looks back at her dad. “Is that when she met Aunty Emma and Uncle Bane?”
“It sure is, dove,” Luther smiles and sets her back down on the couch.
“Yeah, because mommy took daddy to the dog vet!” Rain says, bursting into fits of laughter.
“She sure did!” Luther crosses his arms. “And Aunty Emma gave me shots!”
“Noooo!” both kids cry in unison, Willow running towards me and hopping on my other side.
I wrap both my arms around them and cuddle them close. “Mommy had the best meet-cute with Daddy, and no one can tell me any different!”
“Uh-huh, the most roman-trick!” Willow says cutely.
“Ewwww, gross!” Rain makes a barfing sound
“Grandma is here!” Mom’s voice calls from the front door.
“Gamma!” both kids scream, scrambling off me and running toward their grandma like two missiles, colliding with her so hard she stumbles back a step.
Luther helps me out of my chair and tucks me in front of him, wrapping his arms around my exposed belly in my crop top pajamas. I try to wrap my robe around myself, but he swats my hands away and whispers in my ear.
“You are in your own home, you do not have to hide your skin, especially from my mother. Remember, she's the one who delivered the twins; she’s seen it all.”
I scoff, but lean back for a chaste kiss.
“Who wants to run through the halls and howl for their friends?” Mom asks, inciting a riot.
In response, the kids shift without taking off their clothes, shredding their newest pair of pajamas…again.
“Mom!” I chide.
“It’s not like I don't have clothes for them in my apartment, it will be fine!” she says playfully. “Come now, children, we have to go find all the other pups and go to school!”
School, being an apartment, turned into a classroom for all the new pups that have arrived since I had mine. It was as if the floodgates opened and everyone got pregnant at once. They run off without another word, Mom trailing behind and howling from her human form with the pups as they go.
“Come here,” Luther says, turning me in his arms and kissing me soundly on the mouth. “Have I told you lately how wonderful a mother you are?”
“Not yet today, you’re running late!” I tap his nose with my forefinger and then loop my arms around his neck.
“What should we do with all our free time?” he asks, kissing my forehead lightly before walking me over to the floor-to-ceiling windows and turning me around in his arms again so we can both look out at the early morning city deep in fog.
“Go back to bed?” I laugh, but the laugh turns into a jaw-cracking yawn,
“Nothing wrong with that! You’re carrying a heavy load.” he leans down and cups my belly, pulling up and releasing the pressure on my body.
“Oh, moon above, that is great!”
He holds me there, kissing me on the head, and lets me relish the relief in peace and quiet for a moment. Finally, he asks, “Are you ready for three more?”
“Without this village you’ve given me, I would say no, but with all the support I have now, I know it will go perfectly. Emma offered to help breastfeed as well, since, ya know, I only have two of those!” I elbow him lightly in the ribs.
“What? It’s not my fault you’re having three!” he says defensively.
I turn in his arms and grab the collar of his shirt with both hands, “I blame you!” I say in faux seriousness. “Now take me to bed, sir!”
He laughs and swoops me up off my feet, taking me to bed for what was most decidedly not sleep.
This love of ours is absolutely perfect, and I could never have asked for more.I have never been so blissfully happy, and the future looks brighter and brighter every day. Finding Luther changed my life and gave me a future I never dared to dream for, and for that I will always be thankful.
And they all lived happily ever after, from this day to the rest of their days.
The end.
