Chapter Thirty

Kyla's POV

You know that feeling you get when something new is about to happen to you. It makes you nervous as hell and that's all you can think about. That's exactly how I'm feeling right now waiting for this stupid class to be over.

Confronting Stein shouldn't be hard. I'll just ask him straight up why he said that. Does he want to ruin our friendship because of the dare or is there truth behind his words? Either way, Riley is furious about it. It's ironic because this was her exact prediction. What's left is that I fall in love with him. That's definitely the improbable variable. I don't see myself ever feeling anything for him. Never.

I was too deep in thoughts I barely took notice of the projects given. The only thing that successfully snapped me back to reality was the ringing of the bell. Thankfully the teacher didn't notice my behavior. I'll just get notes later and catch up.

Now, back to business. The doorknob twisted and Richard walked in with his hands in his pocket. I locked my gaze into him following his every step. My eyes widened noticing he was walking in this direction. He stopped directly in front of me then faced Stein. I felt a little sad, I forget they were best friend. I'm so stupid to think he's here for me or something.

"Coach wants you. Now,” Richard states. I groan internally realizing I won't get to finish the conversation.

"I'll talk to you later Kyla,” Stein says getting his things. I look up to meet Richard already staring, I force a blush back down immediately.

"Bye Kyla."

Richard voice soothes and they both walk away. I grab my things and leave the class minutes later.

Stein's confession destabilizes me. I don't even know what to do next to be honest. After dropping the books in my locker, I'm left confused. I have a free period for the next thirty minutes or more so I might as well put it to good news.

After sprinkling water on my face and re-touching my makeup, my head was a bit clearer. I got my phone out and dialed Tony's number.

“Hey Kyla,” he answers immediately.

“Hi Tony. Can we talk or you have a class?”

“Actually, I'm free. I'm in the usual spot. I'll see you soon.”

“See you soon,” I respond and hang up. I faced the mirror and took a deep breath before exiting.

****

Tony stood there waiting. I walked up to him hurriedly until we stood side by side.

"Hi,” he stated with a chuckle.

"Yeah. Hi,” I responded nervously. It felt weird for some reason.

"You said you wanted to talk?"

"Yeah. I did."

"Alright. I'm all ears."

"It's about the additional bet you told me about."

"Oh, yeah,” he responded. I took a deep breath before proceeding.

"Well, I know who did it."

"You do!"

He exclaimed clearly surprised. He really didn't know it was Ryder.

"Who did it?"

He asks eagerly. Guilt rises up in my chest as to what I'm about to do next. I'm becoming Joanna. If I tell Tony it was Ryder, his best friend he'll feel terrible. I might as well be breaking up their friendship just like Joanna did to us. It doesn't make it better that the two might actually have feelings for me.

I fiddle with my fingers unable to utter another word.

"Tell me Kyla. I want to know just tell me already,” he demands, I look away with a sigh.
