Chapter 59
The company's affairs have temporarily stabilized, but now there's trouble at home.
I don't know what rumors my parents believed, but they thought I was having a streak of bad luck recently. So, they went to a fortune teller and, following the fortune teller's advice, bought a lot of talismans to stick around the house.
Feeling very frustrated, I talked to Melinda about my recent troubles.
"Looking back now, the company was able to secure this cooperation opportunity thanks to Russell's excellent negotiation skills. Do you think we were a bit too harsh on him at the time?" I asked.
Melinda sighed softly, her gaze lingering on the vibrant flowers for a moment before she slowly spoke, "We were a bit harsh, but we were also really upset at the time. Who could have thought he would be so infatuated with Dorothy, completely disregarding your feelings?"
I lowered my head slightly, my toes unconsciously kicking the small stones on the ground, my mind in turmoil.
"But even now, I don't feel any better. Seeing the house in such a mess makes me feel like everything is out of control."
Melinda patted my shoulder, comforting me, "Don't think too much about it. Maybe things will get better after a while. Your mom and dad just want some peace of mind. Once this phase passes, they should take down all those talismans."
I smiled bitterly and shook my head, "I hope so. I just don't understand how he can't see Dorothy's true colors. Her pitiful act is so obviously fake."
"Men can be like that sometimes, easily deceived by appearances," Melinda said with a frown, looking helpless. "But don't be too sad. Russell isn't worth it. You're such a great person; you'll definitely meet someone who truly appreciates you in the future."
I took a deep breath of the flower-scented air, trying to calm my heart.
"Hopefully. By the way, have you heard any news about Dorothy recently?"
Melinda thought for a moment and said, "Nothing special, but she seems to be mingling with some so-called high society people a lot lately. I guess she's trying to elevate her status to hold onto Russell more firmly."
I snorted, "She really has a good plan. I won't just stand by and watch her succeed."
Melinda looked at me with some concern, "Don't act impulsively again. The little tricks we played before vented some anger but didn't achieve anything substantial. This time, we need a more thorough plan."
I bit my lip, a determined look flashing in my eyes, "I know. This time, I won't be so reckless. I want him to see Dorothy's true face with his own eyes and realize how wrong he has been."
Melinda nodded, "I support you. But how do you plan to do it?"
I paced back and forth in the garden, constantly thinking about the plan, "I want to start by investigating her background to see if I can find any dirt on her. Then, I'll find the right opportunity to reveal everything in front of him."
"That's a good idea, but investigating won't be easy. Be careful not to get caught," Melinda reminded me.
"I'll be careful." I stopped walking and looked at the distant sky, silently vowing that this time, I would make Dorothy pay and turn everything around.
In the following days, I used various connections and went through a lot of trouble to finally dig up some seemingly useful clues.
It turned out that before Dorothy entered our circle, her family had quite a few hidden secrets.
I organized the information, feeling both angry and a bit smug, thinking that I could finally make Russell see Dorothy's true colors.
When Melinda learned that I had found this information, she also felt that the time was right and helped me plan how to reveal the truth.
We chose a high society gathering as the opportunity. He would definitely attend, and Dorothy wouldn't miss such a chance to expand her network.
On the night of the gathering, the banquet hall was brightly lit and filled with elegantly dressed people. Melinda and I arrived early, keeping an eye on Dorothy and his movements.
Before long, Dorothy appeared, holding Russell's arm. She still had that superior and pretentious look, with a seemingly gentle smile on her face, but to me, it was extremely irritating.
I took a deep breath, suppressing my anger, and according to the plan, I deliberately created an opportunity to meet them.
"Oh, isn't this Dorothy and him?" I deliberately dragged out my words, with a hint of sarcasm in my eyes.
Russell frowned slightly when he saw me, looking somewhat displeased, "What are you doing here?"
I sneered, "Why can't I be here? But you, the person beside you, is really good at pretending."
Dorothy's face turned a bit ugly, but she still tried to stay calm, "What do you mean by that? Don't slander me."
Melinda walked over at this moment, standing by my side and chiming in, "You know very well whether it's slander or not. Dorothy, do you think your past misdeeds can stay hidden forever?"
A flash of panic crossed Dorothy's eyes, but she quickly regained her composure, "Don't talk nonsense here and ruin my reputation. I have no idea what you're talking about."
He looked at us with some confusion, then at Dorothy, "What are you up to? If you have something to say, just say it. Stop being mysterious."
I glanced at him, feeling a wave of disappointment. Even at this point, he was still defending Dorothy. But I didn't hesitate and directly handed him the prepared information, "Take a good look yourself. This is the true face of your beloved Dorothy."
He took the information, his face gradually darkening as he flipped through the pages. Dorothy's face also grew paler with each page he turned.
I felt a mix of emotions. Although seeing Dorothy's embarrassment was somewhat satisfying, I didn't know what to say to him.
Melinda gently tugged my arm, "Let's go. There's nothing worth staying for here."
I nodded, gave him one last look, and left the banquet hall with Melinda.
Theodore, who had been listening nearby, chuckled, "Sienna doesn't need any man; she has you. You even planned her honeymoon perfectly."
"Hey! How can you say that? I was worried Sienna would be too sad on her honeymoon alone, so I asked you to accompany her, not to create any ambiguous situation between you two!"
I couldn't help but laugh, "Melinda, stop shouting. You know how he is."
Melinda glared at me, "You're still defending him, huh!"
With that, she quickened her pace to catch up with Theodore, "Theodore, wait for me. This luggage is so heavy."
Theodore slowed down but still grumbled, "You arranged this chaotic trip, so you have to be prepared to carry the luggage."
I shook my head with a smile and followed them.
When I returned home after the trip, life seemed to be back on track, but it also felt a bit different.
