Chapter 43

Dorothy looked at me, her eyes narrowing slightly, a hint of coldness flashing through them. Then, her face returned to its usual gentle appearance.

"I know you're still upset with me about that incident, but I still hope that, for the sake of our friendship, you can help me!" Dorothy said, looking at me.

I looked at her for a moment and then suddenly laughed. "Dorothy, stop pretending to be so pitiful. You know very well that what I hate most is your hypocritical face!"

Dorothy's expression changed, but she held back her anger and didn't explode.

"Do you know what your biggest flaw is?" I asked, looking at her. "You're too scheming!"

"What do you mean?" Dorothy looked at me.

"You know I'm a businesswoman. I like to maximize my benefits, so your request holds no appeal for me!" I said calmly, "And I won't help you. If there's nothing else, I'll be leaving now."

I turned around to leave, but Dorothy grabbed me. "Sienna, are you really going to stand by and watch as the Carnegie Corporation forces us into a corner?"

I turned back, looking at her with narrowed eyes. "Dorothy, I really wonder what kind of ugly, dirty heart is hidden beneath your beautiful exterior!"

Dorothy's body trembled, and the anger in her eyes seemed about to burst out.

But she ultimately didn't dare to lose her temper.

I shook off her hand. "Don't expect to get any benefits from me. If you want revenge, do it yourself, don't come begging to me!"

After Dorothy left, I sat in my seat, staring out the window, thinking about how to get the information I wanted from Dorothy.

I'm not a saint; I won't sacrifice my own interests for Dorothy. So, I need to figure out what game Dorothy is playing and how severe the Carnegie Corporation's current predicament is.

When I got home, I called Zachary.

Zachary was pleased to receive my call. "What made you think of calling me?"

I pouted and said, "I didn't want to call you. I just wanted to tell you to be careful during this time."

"What happened?"

I told him about Dorothy asking to borrow money from me.

He frowned and pondered for a moment, then said, "I can understand why she wants your help. After all, her company is on the brink of collapse, but you absolutely cannot lend her that money."

"I understand."

"I can only say that I can't make this decision for you. After all, the Carnegie Corporation is just another company to you, and it's best not to get too involved with someone like Dorothy, or she might drag you down with her," Zachary said.

I was silent for a while, then asked, "What exactly is Dorothy up to?"

Zachary pondered for a moment and said, "What do you think she's up to? She just wants to save her family's company through you."

I shook my head, disagreeing. "That's impossible. With Dorothy's personality, she wouldn't lower herself to beg me for the sake of a company, unless..."

"Unless what?" Zachary asked.

I paused and then said, "Unless something really happened to the Carnegie Family, forcing Dorothy to come to me for help!"

"What do you think?" Zachary asked.

I was silent for a moment, then said, "Since the Carnegie Corporation is facing such a difficult situation, they probably can't save themselves. If the Carnegie Family is really in trouble, let them solve it themselves. As for me, I don't plan to get involved."

"Are you sure?" Zachary asked.

I nodded firmly. "Of course!"

"Alright, I'll look into it further. She also approached Melinda before, but Melinda didn't bother with her and directly refused," Zachary said.

I nodded.

Meanwhile, in the Carnegie Corporation office building.

"Mr. Carnegie, the Carnegie Corporation's stock has hit the limit down, our cash flow is in trouble, and our debts are increasing!" a man in a suit said urgently to Jonathan.

Hearing the man's words, Jonathan frowned, then picked up the documents on the table and glanced at them. "These problems are all caused by the negative impact of the previous stock decline."

"Mr. Carnegie, what should we do now?"

"How much liquid capital does the Carnegie Corporation have?" Jonathan asked.

"The Carnegie Corporation has about seven million dollars in liquid assets on the books, with another two and a half million dollars in other projects," the man said.

Hearing the man's words, Jonathan nodded and said, "Immediately allocate two and a half million dollars to them. Also, have the bank inject funds into the Carnegie Corporation's cash flow to ease their turnover. And investigate who is behind this, diverting the funds."

"Also, sell all the hotels under the Carnegie Corporation. We can't continue to incur losses, or it will cause market panic, which would be detrimental to the Carnegie Corporation. Do you understand?" Jonathan said.

The man was stunned for a moment, then nodded.

"Alright, follow my instructions for now," Jonathan paused and continued, "Also, I need you to investigate the recent activities of the Stuart Family and the Boleyn Family."

"Mr. Carnegie, what do you mean?" the man asked, looking at Jonathan in surprise.

Jonathan smirked and said, "The situation the Carnegie Corporation is facing is already out of control. I can't sit idly by any longer. If we don't intervene, we might face bankruptcy."

Hearing his words, the man paused, then quickly responded, "Alright, I'll get on it right away."

With that, he turned and left.

Jonathan was left alone in the large office. He lowered his eyes, slightly tilting his head to look out the window at the bustling scene outside, a hint of contemplation in his expression.

Given the current situation, he had to stop the losses in time.

But the difficulty lay in the fact that no one was willing to invest to help them through this crisis. Clearly, someone was setting traps behind the scenes, wanting to see them isolated and helpless.

After much thought, only the Stuart Corporation seemed the most likely.

Publicly, acquiring the Carnegie Corporation would elevate the Stuart Corporation in Melondor.

Privately, the rumors about Dorothy and Russell were widespread, though there was no clear statement.

But for those in the know, it was already an open secret.

Sienna couldn't accept it and sought revenge, which was entirely understandable.
