Chapter 97 You are a monster

Chapter 97 You are a monster
In the evening, Aurora and Derick visited the police station while Carter and Theo stayed with Arthur and the kids.

Getting to the police station, Aurora walked behind Derick as she was unsure about where to go and what to do. Derick walked up to the cop behind the counter and said;

“We are here for Arthur Howard. His wife is here.” Derick uttered, moving away so that the cop could see Aurora who was behind him.

“His wife? I thought they never got the chance to be official.” The cop answered with a chuckle, and Derick raised his eyebrows in surprise.

“What? It’s all over the internet. She ran away on her wedding day after another lady claimed to be pregnant for him.” He added, and this time, with laughter.

Aurora scoffed and shook her head in disbelief.

“Do you want to gossip? Or are you going to take us to your boss?” Derick answered with a stern look.

“What exactly are you seeing him for?” The cop further asked.

“He is just here to frustrate us, Derick. We should leave.” Aurora answered, grabbing Derick’s hand to pull him away, but he refused.

“His wife is here to know what went on with her husband’s death, and this is how you treat her?!” Derick exclaimed in anger, and this time, he drew the attention of other people around them.

Aurora gulped and looked around nervously. She wasn’t sure if she ever wanted to create a scene in a police station.

“Well, what do you think? It’s being said that it was an accident. If you have any contradictions, you should put it down on paper alongside your evidence.” The cops answered, stretching two empty papers to them.

“We are here to just know if the cops have found anything. You don’t have to be this rude. Are you not supposed to help?” Aurora asked out of anger.

Derick sighed deeply and rolled his tongue in his mouth out of frustration. Just as he was about responding, someone called Aurora from inside one of the offices.

“Aurora!” The door to the office opened and Alec walked out.

“Alec!” Aurora called in surprise. She moved closer to him and embraced him while people watched.

“What’s going on? Don’t you have things to do? I can give you some if you want!” Freddie uttered from his office door and immediately, everyone watching dispersed to their various working spaces.

Derick shot the rude cop one more fierce look before walking away from the counter.

“What are you doing here?” Aurora asked with a faint smile on her face.

“I’m sorry about Arthur, Aurora.” He answered, causing Aurora’s smile to fade as she nodded slowly.

“They claim it wasn’t an accident.” She added as Derick joined them in the conversation.

“It wasn’t.” Alec answered before turning to face Derick.

“Hello.” He treated him as they shook hands.

“Hi. I’m Derick.”

“Alec.”

“Derick, he just said it wasn’t an accident. What do you know?” Aurora asked eagerly. Alec led them to the chairs in the hallway and they sat.

“They are on their way to get the person who sent the van to the middle of the road at the time Arthur was supposed to pass. From the CCTV footage, they saw that this van had been following Arthur from very close to his house, until it suddenly disappeared, only to appear in front of him when he least expected.”

“Someone sent the van? Oh God… who? Why would anyone do that? Especially to the small kids in the car!” Aurora uttered as tears filled her eyes again.

“Can you please tell us who?” Derick asked and Alec sighed.

“Anita…” Before he could say her full name, Derick butted in.

“I know it! That bastard.” He muttered.

Aurora’s eyes widened in shock  as she turned to look at Alec again. “Anita? What the hell is wrong with her? First, she wants Arthur to herself, and now she wants to kill him and my kids?!” Aurora roared in rage.

Before Alec or Derick could respond, the exit to the station opened and they looked towards that direction to see Anita being pulled in by two officers.

“Let me go! How dare you arrest me without evidence!” She yelled as she struggled in their hands. Aurora sprang to her feet and took long strides toward Anita.

“Aurora!” Derick called her, hoping this would caution her from doing whatever she wanted to do. He could guess she had forgotten they were in the police station.

“How are you?!” Before the policemen could stop her, Aurora threw a resounding slap at her face, causing Anita’s face to fall to the side.

“Hey!” One of the cops yelled, grabbing Aurora and pulling her away from Anita.

“How could you?! You are evil! You’re a monster!” Aurora yelled in tears while Anita just stared at her in awe. She was yet to recover from the slap that landed in her face.

The policemen took her away and headed for the hallway where Alec stood.

When Anita saw him, a feeling of betrayal pierced her chest like a sharp sword.

“You’re here for her, aren’t you? You made them arrest me!” She yelled, charging towards him, but the cops kept her in check and kept dragging her away.

“I warned you but you didn’t listen.” Alec shrugged and looked away. Ignoring Anita, he walked back to Aurora, who was now weeping.

“Don’t worry, Aurora. She’ll get what she deserves. She isn’t escaping this one.” Derick assured her firmly, looking at the door they had walked in with her.

“I’ll make sure she doesn’t disturb your family ever again.” Alec added, giving her a reassuring nod.

“Do whatever it takes Alec. I don’t care how you do it, but she cannot win this fight. If she wins this fight, I’ll end up in jail because I’ll be the murderer next time. I need her out of our lives for good.” Aurora muttered, holding Alec’s hand.

“Trust me to do anything for you, Aurora. She will be duly punished.” Alec answered, and Aurora nodded.

She moved closer to him and placed her head on his shoulder. “I bless the day I met you, Alec.”
