Chapter 60 Father of the year

Chapter 60 Father of the year
“Aurora, Hi! I will be returning to Derick’s house today. And this time, I would fight for our love. No going back. I’m going to get married to him whether his parents or Brenda wants it or not.”

After sending the text, Carter hopped into Derick’s car excitedly. He was happy and unsure at the same time.

He was going to meet Brenda the second time after their first meeting and he wasn’t sure how it was going to go.

Derick noticed Carter was deep in thoughts as they hit the road, so he tried to assure him. “Carter, trust me. We are going to sort this out. Don’t think too much about it.” He rubbed his hand on Carter’s thighs as he drove.

“Your son would be home too, right?” Carter answered, and he nodded.

“Yes.”

“Don’t you think he wouldn’t like the idea of you chasing his mother out of the house? He would want to go with his mum.”

“Honestly, Carter, I don’t know what I’m going to do about him but I know I don’t want to lose him. We now have a son.”

“Yes, sure. I just don’t know what to expect.” Carter responded, staring at the ring on his finger.

“Expect that you’ll be getting married to me very soon.” He took Carter’s hand in his and kissed the ring on his finger.

After a while, they got to his house and Derick held his hand as they headed in. Getting in, they met Brenda in the living room with Jordan, the son.

They were playing with one of his toys. When Betty raised her head, she saw Derick.

“Derick!” She called before her eyes fell on Carter behind him, and her smile faded off slowly.

“Oh… Hi.” She added, her gaze still locked with Carter’s.

“Hi, how are you?” Derick answered, and she nodded.

“I’m good, I guess. You’re back now? Or are you going to leave again?” She asked, and he let out a sigh.

“That depends on what we are going to decide after our conversation now.” Derick uttered.

Brenda could guess what the discussion was going to be, and she was ready.

“Okay, but before that, can you at least say Hi to Jordan? He wouldn’t stop asking after you. You’ve been gone for more than a week.” She added, lifting Brandon from the couch.

She carried him in her arms and approached Derick. Derick let out a smile as he reached for Jordan and carried him.

A wide smile lit up Jordan’s cute face as he realized he was in Derick’s arms.

“He doesn’t even know you so well but he loves you already,” Brenda uttered, looking at Carter again.

Derick nodded slowly and turned to look at Carter. Carter just stared blankly at them as he didn’t know what to say.

“We should talk now, Brenda.” Derick uttered, reaching for Carter’s hand as he walked to the couch.

“Okay.”

They settled on the couch, Carter sat next to Derick, while Brenda sat opposite them, staring at them in anticipation to hear what they wanted to say.

“Brenda, I proposed to Carter already…” Derick lifted Carter’s hand to show Brenda the ring on his finger.

“Really?” Brenda raised her brows, and Derick bobbed.

“Yes. and we will be getting married very soon.”

“And why are you telling me this? You should be telling this to your parents, not me.”

“Why my parents?” Derick asked with a creased brows.

“Because they think we’d be getting married and I think they are preparing for that.”

“What? Prepa…”

“Listen to me, Brenda.” Carter butted in, taking Derick by surprise.

“I know this isn’t fair to you because you have a son and you want the best life for him, but trust me, that best life won’t come if you don’t accept the fact that Derick doesn’t love you.

“He never did. As I remember, he was drunk when you two made love. Don’t you want to experience true love? Someone that would love you for who you are no matter the circumstance?

“Well, that is the kind of love between Derick and I, and not even you can destroy what we have. Yes, I’m gay, but I’m grateful that I have a man that will do anything to have me.

“That kind of man is out there, waiting for you. Please don’t waste your time here.” After speaking, Carter let out a deep breath.

He felt so light as he was able to say everything he had been buckling up. Derick stared at him speechlessly, admiring how wonderful he was.

“I know,” Brenda replied, lowering her head. “I know Derick would never love me the way I love him and I’m trying to get used to it. But I would do anything for Jordan to have a happy family…”

“And he’ll have it. I will be here to be the father I am supposed to be to him, Brenda. But we cannot be together. I love Carter and only he owns my heart.”

“How are you going to be a father to Jordan if we are not living under the sand roof? What if he needs you and you’re not there? What should I do?”

“Brenda, listen…” Carter stood up from the couch and walked to her. He sat next to her and took her hand in his.

“… Derick would do whatever it takes to be there for Jordan, and I wouldn’t stop him from doing that. He can get you an apartment close to ours, where you and Jordan would stay. So that visiting would be easy.

“This will also give you time to find the right person for you. Right, Derick?” Carter asked, looking at Derick.

“Right. He has said it all, Brenda. I can look for an apartment close by for you and Jordan. And I promise we would always come to say Hi. I’ll pay for whatever he wants, I’ll buy him toys and love him because he is my son, and nothing can change that.” Derick added.

Brenda nodded slowly, looking at Jordan who just kept doing his own thing on Derick’s laps.

‘They are right. I shouldn’t settle for less. My man is still out there.’

“What are you thinking about? Let us know. If you have anything on your mind. We can always work it out.” Derick uttered.

“What about your parents? What are you going to do with them?” She asked with concern.

“I think they don’t see me as their son anymore, and it’s the best thing that has ever happened to me in years. Once you agree to move into a new apartment with Jordan, my parents wouldn’t have a choice but to let go. I just need you to be on this with us.” Derick responded.

Brenda let out a sigh and nodded. “Okay! I wish you two the best. And I hope I experience true love soon too.” She answered, and Carter let out a wide smile and looked at Derick who was smiling with satisfaction too.

“Thank you so much, Brenda.” Carter embraced her excitedly and they both chuckled.

“We should celebrate!” Derick exclaimed, causing Jordan to flinch in fear.

“Oh, Jordan.” Brenda called as Jordan broke into tears.

“I’m sorry. I forgot he was in my arms.” Derick uttered, while Carter laughed heartily.

“And there is the father of the year.”
