Chapter 16 I'll make you
Throughout the night, Aurora’s eyes were wide open. She couldn’t bring herself to sleep knowing fully well she was going to lose custody of her children the next morning.
Jimmy was very mad at her because she lied to him, but he still didn’t leave her side. He just didn’t say a word to her.
Even when Aurora tried to apologize, he responded with a horrible silent treatment. He just couldn’t wait for the morning to come so he could see how it was going to go down.
Arthur opened his heavy eyes and looked around the living room again. Jimmy and Aurora were not only the ones that couldn’t sleep.
He couldn’t either. He was filled with excitement that he finally found the boys, and at the same time was super careful not to sleep and let them slip off his hands again.
Picking up his phone, he found missed calls from Derick. ‘He must have been dying of suspense for him to call me ten times.’ Arthur thought as he sat up.
It was 9 a.m, and the house was still dead silent. Not even noises from the boys.
“Aurora?!” He called out, walking to the hallway that led to the rooms.
And as if she was waiting for him to call her, she walked out of the boy’s room. She lifted Riley and Rowan, while Ryan filled behind her closely, holding his toy car.
Aurora’s eyes were puffy due to the endless amount of tears she shed throughout the night.
“Let’s talk about this, Mr. Arthur. Please. We can talk this out.” Aurora pleaded weakly as she moved closer to where Arthur stood.
His face lit up immediately he set his eyes on the boys. They all were looking at me, and this caused a smile to form on his face.
They were so cute. He may not have cared for anything else in the world, but when he set his eyes on them, he felt like he owed them his life.
‘I’ll never lose them… ever again. I won’t let her take you away from me.’ He thought to himself, stretching forth his hand so he could carry one of them.
Aurora hesitated to let go at first, but then she did otherwise. She knew if she wanted to get on his good side, she had to be a good woman to him.
Arthur carried Rowan from her and hugged him against his shoulders carefully.
“He’s the last brother.” Aurora muttered, trying to push back the tears that threatened to roll out of her eyes.
For the very first time, Aurora saw Arthur smile very widely. He brushed Rowan’s hair and planted a kiss on his forehead.
“He looks just like me. They all look like me.” He uttered with joy in his voice.
Arthur never fully understood the joy of being a parent until he set his eyes on them. It was like he created mini copies of him.
“Please don’t take them away from me. I will die if you do so.” Aurora mumbled, as Arthur turned to head back to the living room.
This time, Jimmy headed out of the room and approached Arthur.
“Let’s strike a deal.” He said to Arthur, who was busy having a wordless conversation with Rowan.
Aurora put Riley down and told the boys to go to Arthur. ‘Anything to soften his heart.’ She thought.
“And why would I strike a deal with you?” Arthur answered, without looking away from his children.
“Because we both want the same thing for the boys. We both love them and want them to be happy.” Jimmy answered, causing Arthur to raise his head.
Instead of looking at Jimmy, he looked at Aurora instead.
“Why is he still here? You know he has no say in this, right? He knows nothing.”
“What do you mean? I’ve been with the kids…”
“Jimmy.” Aurora called with her head bowed, cutting him short.
Jimmy looked at her and she raised her head to look at him too. “You should leave now.”
“What?” Jimmy asked in awe.
“Please. I’ll call you or text you when everything is settled.” She added, leaving Jimmy’s jaw slack-open.
He couldn’t believe the woman he loved and was trying to defend just shut him out like he meant nothing to her and the kids.
“You should listen to her.” Arthur uttered, still poking the boys’ faces playfully, causing them to giggle.
“What’s your name?” Ryan asked when he finally caught Arthur’s finger.
“I am Arthur.” He answered, grinning widely.
Jimmy stormed out of the house in anger and slammed the door behind him, walking away and never looking back.
“Did you make mummy cry? Ryan told us that when you came yesterday, mummy cried.” Riley added, and Arthur furrowed his brows.
“Of course not. I didn’t hurt her. Mummy is just a very emotional woman.”
Tears rolled down Aurora’s eyes even more when she heard Arthur use the word mummy to describe her. This was the very first time he saw her as the mother of his children.
“Don’t make mummy cry again, or I’ll hurt you.” Rowan responded boldly, and Arthur lifted his brows, showing them a scared expression.
“I promise. I promise. I’ll never make mummy cry again.” Arthur responded with fear in voice, making the boys smile.
He lifted his head to look at her and saw she was crying. “Can you please clean those tears? I just promised them I won’t make you cry again. Don’t turn me to a bad father.” He mumbled as he continued playing with them.
A smile curved up Aurora’s lips as she watched him play with the kids. She still couldn’t believe the cold, arrogant Mr. Arthur could be so soft with anyone, no matter who they were.
“Please get me their necessities. We’ll be leaving now.” Arthur uttered, standing up again.
“No, please. Take me along with you.” Aurora pleaded, shaking her head.
Arthur scoffed and looked at her. “And why would I ever want to do that?”
“Because they love me, and you wouldn’t want to hurt them.”
“Don’t worry about that. After a few years, they’ll forget totally about you, especially when I tell them the kind of person you are.”
“No, please don’t do that. I…” she moved closer to him and held his hand, causing the boys to stare at her in confusion.
“I can take care of them while you’re busy in the office. I don't mind being a maid or nanny, just don’t separate me from them. Please.” She mumbled.
Arthur clenched his jaws and wanted to push her off, but he couldn’t, not when his boys were watching.
He heaved a sigh and moved closer to her.
“Okay. Now stop crying.” He uttered, but Aurora’s tears couldn’t stop flowing. She still didn’t believe his words.
“C’mon, mummy, stop crying or daddy will cry too.” He uttered with a pout, cleaning off her tears with his thumbs.
At first, Aurora flinched, wondering what had gotten into him. But then, he pretended to embrace her and whispered in her ear in a cold tone;
“I’ll make you pay for everything you did.”
He withdrew from her and shot her a fake grin, while Aurora forced on a smile so that the boys wouldn’t worry.
He lowered himself again in front of them and rubbed their heads.
“Boys, daddy is taking you somewhere where you can have all the toys in the world!.” He uttered with a smirk.
“Really?” Riley and Rowan chorused in excitement, and he nodded.
“What about mummy? Is she coming too?” Ryan asked, moving closer to Aurora and holding her hand.
“Of course.” He answered with clenched jaws, looking at Aurora with a fake grin.
