Chapter 14 Dinner date
“Riley, touch a ball in this picture.” Carter said to Riley, placing the textbook in front of him.
Riley stared at the picture for a few minutes, and when he eventually pointed, he pointed at a wrong image.
“Noo! That is not a ball. This is a ball.” Ryan uttered almost immediately, pointing at the ball and laughing.
“Ryan is correct. This is the ball, not that. And you, Ryan, you need to understand your brother is a slow learner. You don’t have to laugh at him. Instead, you should teach and correct him with love, okay? He’s your brother.” Carter said in a calm tone, and Ryan nodded.
He moved closer to sucking Riley and rubbed his hand on his head, scattering his neatly combed hair. “I’m sorry, okay? Forgive me.” Ryan mumbled, and immediately, a smile lit up Riley’s face.
This touched Carter’s heart and he placed his hand on his chest. “That was so sweet of you, Ryan.” He muttered with a genuine smile.
Just then, Aurora walked in on them and caught Carter’s attention.
“You’re up.” Carter uttered, standing up from the floor.
“Yes. I’m sorry I had to take a quick nap.” She answered, and he scoffed.
“You shouldn’t be sorry for resting. I was busy teaching the boys to identify some things.” He answered as they both settled on the chair, staring at the boys as they played with their textbooks.
They both went silent for a moment, before Carter spoke up again.
“Are you not going to take them to a real school?” He asked, and she lowered her head, playing with her fingers.
“I can’t. Not when Arthur is still out there. I can’t let them out of my sight except when they are with Jimmy. I don’t trust anyone else with them, not even the school they’ll enroll in.” She explained, raising her head.
“It’s been five years, I don’t think it can be any worse. I do understand you, but this isn’t standard education. They need to be educated the right way. Maybe not now, but soon.” He advised, and Aurora nodded in acknowledgment.
“I’ll think about it. Thank you, Carter. Now enough of me… let’s talk about you. How have you been since you left Arthur? Have you been in touch with Derick at all?” She asked, and he scoffed.
“Derick? I stopped talking to him three months ago. After I left Arthur’s, he offered to hire me to work in his own house. I refused at first, but then I accepted his request. I did miss him too and I wanted him back.”
“Then what happened?”
“His parents paid us a visit, and when he tried to introduce me to them as his boyfriend, he couldn’t. Instead, he called me his butler.”
“What?! But he said he was grown now and could make his own decisions.”
“I thought the same thing too, but I was wrong. He hadn’t even come out to his parents yet, and I also found out they wanted him to marry the daughter of their very good friend. I left the house the next day.” Carter narrated sadly with his head bowed.
“I’m sorry, Carter. You deserve better. We deserve better than those men.”
“Heyyyy…” They both heard Jimmy say from the door as he walked in with a bag in his hand.
“Uncle Jimmy!” The boys called excitedly, running to meet him.
“Heyyyy.” Aurora answered in the same manner as his, standing up from the couch.
“Carter, I need your help.” Jimmy added after giving his bag to the boys so they could play with it.
“What?” Carter asked with furrowed brows.
“Can you please stay with the boys a little longer? I’d love to take little missy here on a date this evening.” He answered, and Aurora raised her brows.
“A date?” She asked in surprise.
“We haven’t gone on an official one. So, get ready baby. Let’s go have some fun tonight.” He responded with a grin, looking at Carter.
“Fine! I’ll be here. Just don’t say too long.” He responded with a smile.
“Yes! You’re the best brother!” Jimmy answered, hitting his shoulder.
Pulling the chair backward, Aurora sat on it with a hearty smile on her face.
“Thank you, Jimmy.” She uttered, and he shook his head.
“Anything for my woman.” He replied as he also sat in front of her.
Though the restaurant they were wasn’t the best, Aurora still loved it very much. She saw his intentions and that was what mattered.
The menu was laying on the table already, so he passed it to her.
“What would you like to have?” He asked, as she collected the menu and ran her finger through.
“Risotto should do.” She answered, looking at him.
“And drinks?”
“Errrm… Sex on the beach.” She retorted, and Jimmy smiled, nodding.
He signaled to the waiter and placed their orders. After the waiter left, they both stared at each other, their cheeks flushing as they had so many things going on in their minds.
“You’re flushed.” Jimmy commented with a grin.
“I mean… you’re staring at me. Why would I?” She answered shyly, causing him to chuckle.
As they got deeper and deeper in their conversation, Jimmy couldn’t resist the urge to ask the question that had been eating him up for over a year.
“Can I ask you something?” He asked as they both dugged into their food.
“Of course. What’s on your mind?”
“I don’t know if it’s appropriate to ask you this on a date, but I’ve been wanting to ask. I wanted us to be official before asking such a personal question.” He uttered, making Aurora crease her brows.
“It’s about the Triplet’s father. You haven’t really told me what happened between you two.”
“I haven’t?” Aurora asked, picking up her glass of water and taking a sip from it.
“No. All you said was that he’s a bad person and he cannot be a father to your babies.” He replied.
Aurora couldn’t bring herself to tell him that she actually bridged a contract and ran away with babies that were technically not hers. So, she came up with something more justifiable.
“Well, that is almost everything that happened. We were together, happy as a family, only for me to notice that he began to change after I got pregnant.
“He didn’t look at me like he used to, maybe because I wasn’t beautiful anymore. I tried to get his attention, make him love me like he did when we first got married, but it was all a waste of time.
“He had another woman. After I found out, I was devastated and was very close to my delivery date. After I delivered, I refused to return to him so I left, with my children.”
Her countenance changed into a sad one and saw did Jimmy’s.
“I’m sorry, Aurora. You don’t deserve such a treatment. You’re a good woman. Why would anyone do such to you? Well, he’s the loser, okay? You have me now.”
He reached for her hand on the table and gave it a little reassuring squeeze. “I’m here for you, and I’ll always protect you and the boys.” He said boldly, and Aurora raised her head to look at him.
She knew she shouldn’t lie to him, but she didn’t want to ruin her first date with him. He already had a picture of her being a good person in his head, so she didn’t want that to change.
Not when they just got together.
“I trust you, Jimmy. I’m glad I could tell you.” She answered, forcing on a smile.
After finishing their dinner, they added back to the house and when they drew closer, Jimmy texted Carter that he could leave.
He had more plans for the night, and he didn’t want Carter to ruin it.
Getting home, they found his note on the center table, telling them he made sure he put the boys to sleep before leaving.
Aurora went in to check on the boys and found them sleeping peacefully on their beds.
“They’re fast asleep.” She said to Jimmy, who already sat on the couch.
“Great. Come here.” He said, waving at her. She smiled widely and approached him.
She sat next to me and reached for his hand. She lifted his hand to her face and planted a kiss on it. Jimmy’s heart fluttered when she did this.
“You’re so beautiful, Aurora.” He uttered, making her look at him. Their eyes locked and remained locked.
“I will never hurt you, Aurora. I promise. I love you so much and I’m nothing like your Ex. I’d do anything and everything to put a smile on your face.” He added, cupped one side of her face with his hand.
Aurora’s eyes fell shut as she gently rubbed her cheeks against his palm.
“Can I kiss you?” He asked, his eyes fixated on her lips. She opened her eyes and nodded slowly, closing the gap between them.
Their lips collided and their breaths ceased. He cupped her neck and pulled her even closer, savoring her lips. There lips entwined and they graduated from kissing into eating each other’s lips.
They were both turned on and soon, their hands got busy with their clothings, removing them one after the other.
“Are we really doing this?” Jimmy asked as he pulled his pants down his knees in hunger for her.
“Yes! But we can’t make too much noise, or we’ll wake the boys. We don’t want that, do we?”
“No!” Jimmy answered, covering her mouth with his.
Just when they both laid on the couch, they heard a knock on the door, commanding a halt to whatever they were doing.
They both furrowed their brows, staring at each other.
“Are you expecting someome?” Jimmy asked, and she shook her head.
“Carter! Maybe he forgot something.” She answered.
“Argh.” Jimmy rolled his eyes in frustration and picked his pants.
“I’m going to so kill you, Carter.” He muttered, walking to the door, while Aurora hastily put on her dress.
“Who are you?” Jimmy asked as soon as he opened the door to an unfamiliar face.
“It isn’t Carter?” Aurora asked, walking up to him to see who it was.
Immediately she came face to face with him, her eyes widened and she froze.
“Mr. Arthur?!”
