Chapter 47 47
Chapter 47 47
Nora’s POV
Two days later and I still haven’t found any rest.
Aria made sure to call me every hour of each passing day to remind me about what she had asked me to do. At this point, I was on the verge of crashing out.
After the night when I told Julian to stay away from me, we hadn’t really seen each other again. I made sure to stay in my room until it was late into the day before stepping downstairs for food. Then at night, I had dinner in my room to avoid seeing him.
I felt so horrible for what I was about to do but my hands were tied. Tomorrow was the last day I had to get Aria her money and then, I will finally be free from her clutches.
Yesterday, after making sure Julian was out of the house, I went to his room to check for the safe but I couldn’t find anything. Happy, I told Aria about it and she insisted it must be somewhere.
Then, I got a call from her today saying the safe has been moved to his office. It was Aria who even made me know that Julian has an office in the house. I’ve never been there before, nor did I know something like that existed.
Then, I realized she might have a mole in the house because only someone living here would get in touch with that kind of sensitive information. But who?
I’ve tried to make Aria see reason with me but it was all to no avail. Then, I noticed something felt off. If she really needed money so badly to start up a business, why didn’t she ask our dad for it? Last I remembered, she was the favorite child who always got what she ever wanted.
I did some research in order to know what is going on and that was when I found it. The company was falling apart.
The news said something about someone buying huge parts of the company and hitting the company hard with an overflow of shares which has caused my dad’s company to run at a massive loss. He was drowning in debts and the worst part? The person who was causing all the wreckage was anonymous.
It all finally made sense now. Aria now thinks I am her ticket to the life she couldn’t give to herself.
As annoying as it appeared to be, I was helpless.
In the morning, I took a long tour around the whole mansion as I tried to find the office. Then, I found it. Right in his wing. It was only a few doors away from his room.
I entered, closed the door after me, and looked around the room. I tried to check for the safe because honestly, I’ve never seen a safe before. I carefully looked around the room and then, I found it. It was on the wall. How did I even miss it?
I touched it as I tried to figure out how it works. Then, like I had suspected, I needed a pin to unlock it. I told Aria about it the other day and she said she was going to sort it out. How?
As I walked out of his office and journeyed back to my room, I hoped she wouldn’t find the password.
When I got back to my room, it didn’t take thirty minutes before Aria called to check if I found it. I was tempted to lie but I knew it was useless. She already has an intel inside this house so trying to lie would only make things worse for me.
“Have you found it?” she asked when I answered the call.
“Yes, I did. I don’t have the code for it,” I said.
“That’s not an issue, I found it already.”
I stiffened.
“But how?” I asked. That was something that is supposed to be kept a secret and known only by Julian.
She let out a small laugh.
“I have my way of getting anything I want. Besides, I never give up,” she laughed.
“This is very wrong, you know that right?” I asked for the tenth time.
“I know but you’re going to do it for me regardless.”
“Since you have your way of knowing things and you obviously have a mole here, why don’t you get the person to do your dirty job? Why ask me?”
“Because that’s where the fun is. What excitement will it get me if you’re comfortable in a place you shouldn’t be? You’re my puppet and I’ll treat you however I want,” she said.
“You’re being all tough on me when dad is a rich man.
Why not ask father for money?”
“Because I don’t want to!” she snapped. “Get me the money tomorrow and stop asking me silly questions. Don't piss me off.”
“Is it true that dad is going bankrupt?” I dared to ask.
There was a moment of silence as Aria thought of what to say to me.
“Why are you asking me such a silly question? He’s your dad, why not ask him?”
“I am asking you,” I returned.
“Well young lady, sorry to disappoint you but I do not have the answer you’re looking for. I’ll call you tomorrow to plan when you’re going to strike,” she said. She didn’t wait for me to say something more; she hung up.
I heaved a sigh and dropped my phone. My heart raced in anticipation as I thought of how tomorrow is going to be. My phone beeped with a notification and it was the said code from Aria.
Even if I hate Julian and couldn’t care less if he burnt to the ground, the thought of having a mole in this very house didn't sit well with me. He was at a huge risk and he didn’t even know it.
Should I tell him?
No! I quickly pushed the thought away. So many things could go wrong because one, he’s not going to believe me. He might even think I am pulling another prank on him, or accuse me of trying to steal from him.
And telling him about it meant exposing my plans to steal from him and that meant getting Aria angry and that definitely meant her going ahead to ruin me and then for what? Julian might even hate me more and cast me to the side as well.
As I stared at the code, I mentally braced myself for tomorrow. I didn’t know what Aria had planned but I wasn’t going to stop trying to survive.
