Chapter 35 35

Chapter 35 35
Nora’s POV

I didn’t know what I was expecting, but I was pretty disappointed.

It seemed as though Julian wasn’t in the mood to fire back at me. When I boldly poked him about his family, the only thing he said was, “I am not your husband and I will never be. Stay away from my wing; this is the last warning you will get.”

He asked his assistant to escort me back to my room and, sadly, my whole plan went down the drain. But I wasn’t ready to back down at all.

As I lay on my bed and my mind wandered, I remembered Julian’s room. It was so dark; everything seemed gloomy. I didn’t know he had a thing for dark spaces. Waking up from a nightmare in that kind of room would send anyone’s mind into overdrive.

He didn’t even give me half of the reactions I expected, and it seemed as though he knew I was just trying to piss him off. What more could I possibly do? I needed to do something that would trigger him so badly he would lose control. What could that possibly be? Silas was getting impatient as well as me.

I thought long and hard until it clicked.

“Ha!” I said as I sat up on the bed, my mind working fast to get me the full details of my plans.

Since everything in his room was black and he loves it that way, how about I add a little color to his life? I was going to transform the whole room into something he has never seen before. I was going to bring back colors to his room, and not just one color—a lot of colors. The ones to get him pissed off.

But I needed money to get the things that I needed.

Oh no.

And just like that, my plans evaporated into thin air. I fell back on the bed with a disappointed sigh. I just needed to do something that wouldn’t require me spending money.

That night, I thought long and hard but couldn’t get any idea as good as my first. By morning, I was bored out of my mind and ideas weren’t forthcoming. So, I decided to go downstairs to watch TV.

Coincidentally, I walked in on Maggie writing a list for things she was going out to get. I eavesdropped and, when I heard something about furniture, I knew it was my opportunity to intervene.

“Can I please add a little something to the list?” I asked as I walked up to them. It was Peggy and two other maids.

“Sure, ma'am. What do you need?” she asked.

“I would love to get some paint for my room,” I said.

“Okay, what color would you prefer to use this time?” she asked, ready to write down my orders.

So easy? Wow!

“Uhm, I’ll be needing really bright colors,” I began. “I’ll be needing white, pink, turquoise, lilac, coral, yellow, and green. A lot of pink and white,” I finished.

The maids exchanged looks but didn’t say anything.

“Are you sure?” Maggie asked, casting me a glance.

“Yes, I am sure. Also, help me get some brushes as I would be doing the designs myself, thank you,” I said, and she nodded.

I happily went to watch TV as I repeatedly checked the time. By afternoon, Peggy was back and she had everything I needed!

I thanked her profusely as some maids took the jars of paint to my room. When they all left, I changed into some shorts and a t-shirt before proceeding with my plan. I couldn’t ask the maids for help because I was about to wreck some havoc on their boss’s room. They wouldn’t dare.

One by one, I took the jars of paint and went to Julian’s room, which was surprisingly unlocked. Did he trust his staff so much to leave his door open? Well, it worked even better for me.

I figured I had about three hours left before Julian would arrive. That was more than enough time to carry out my mission. Since I needed him to be really pissed off, I didn’t try to do a good job. An awful job would piss him off even more.

I got to work, painting all the bright colors roughly over his walls. It wasn’t an easy process, but it was the price I had to pay for my freedom. For the spaces my hands couldn’t reach, I used his chair to lift my height.

Roughly two hours later, I was done. My bones ached from stressing so hard, but it was worth it. Wiping sweat off my forehead, I smiled at my accomplishments. His room was so badly done that even I would get mad.

Apart from the overly bright colors splashed nonchalantly over his walls, they were also unprofessionally done, making it an ugly sight to behold. I didn’t have time to celebrate my victory; I proceeded to hide the remaining jars of paint in one of the rooms to avoid suspicion. His floor was messed up as well, but I chose to leave it that way. The messier, the better.

As I journeyed back tiredly to my room, I was satisfied. All that was left to do now was to wait for Julian to arrive. When I got back to my room, I changed out of my messy clothes and hopped into the shower to rinse the paint from my skin. I had to wash my hair as well because I kind of looked like a unicorn.

Washing up wasn't an issue at all as I had a wide smile on my face the whole time. Silas is going to be so proud of me. When I was done with the shower, I contemplated packing my clothes, but I was too exhausted. I crashed on the bed, took my phone, and dialed Silas’s number to let him know I would be joining him soon.

My happiness waned when I called him repeatedly but he didn’t pick up. Why?

As I held my phone and waited for him to perhaps call me back, exhaustion had its way and I soon drifted off to sleep. I don’t know how long I slept for, but I was soon woken by a loud pounding on my door, followed by Julian’s cold voice.

If I ever thought I had heard him angry before, this was pure fury. I could feel the venom seep from his dangerous tone.

“Nora, open this door this very minute!”

For a moment, I wondered what was going on, but then I remembered. His room.

Oh, shit.
