Chapter 33 33

Chapter 33 33
Nora’s POV

“Are you done?” I asked as Julian’s words sank into me. I was pained, very pained, but I wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction of seeing my tears.

I swallowed my tears and faced him head-on.

“Excuse me?” He asked, taken aback. I knew he wasn’t expecting my nonchalant response.

“I asked if you’re done. I know my family doesn’t want me. Tell me what’s new,” I said.

“You must think you’re funny,” Julian said, his eyes filling with more anger.

“I don’t. The same way you must think your mean words are going to have any effect on me. I’ve faced worse, but I never let it overwhelm me. So I suggest you try harder if you want to see me cry.”

I watched with satisfaction as he thought of words to use on me. Seeing the almighty Julian speechless was a sight to truly behold.

“I’ll say this, and I’ll say it one last time,” he said, taking a deep breath. It looked as if he was trying to calm himself down. “Do not ever try to pull little pranks on me. I don’t appreciate them,” he finished.

Well, I wasn’t going to back down. Silas’s words still hung over my every thought, so I needed to be away from here as soon as possible. In fact, pissing him off more was the only way to get him to divorce me.

“Well, you don’t tell me what to do. You hate me so much, and I hate you even more. Just let me go, and that’ll bring an end to this suffering. Don’t you see?”

“If you’re doing this to get a divorce, then you should try harder because I am going to put you through hell if you think you’re going to make me uncomfortable in my own house,” he said.

“Very well,” I said, heaving a sigh.

He gave me one last glare before leaving my room.

“Well, you need to get my door fixed!” I yelled after him.

He didn’t respond.

Was this his punishment? To leave my room without a door? I went to lie on my bed as my mind went through my plans again.

Julian was terrifying, but if I wanted to win, I needed to be fearless.

I missed Silas so much, and I knew he missed me too. He was waiting for me to come to him.

As if on cue, my phone lit up with a call, and it was Silas.

I smiled as I answered.

“Hey.”

“Hey, baby. How are you?” he asked sweetly.

“I’m fine. I’ve missed you,” I confessed.

“I know, I’ve missed you too. I can’t wait to be with you again,” he said.

I broke into a smile.

“How about the money I asked for?” he added, and my smile slowly faded.

“I already told you I don’t have any money. Julian won’t agree to give me some,” I explained.

“That doesn’t matter! I see you don’t love me anymore,” he said, his tone going cold.

“No, don’t say that. I love you so much, but I really don’t have any money. You know I would definitely send it if I did,” I said, my tone dropping to a pleading one.

“So what would you have me do?” he asked.

“I don’t know, maybe go job hunting?” I asked.

“I can’t. I’ve gone to three companies, but they’re not giving me positive responses. You need to do something about this,” he said.

But how?

“Okay, but I need more time,” I said. I didn’t want to piss him off.

“You have to act fast; my bills aren’t asking for more time,” he said.

“Thank you.” I didn’t even know why I was thanking him.

“Alright, I have to go now,” he said, suddenly sounding like he didn’t want to talk to me anymore.

What? Why?

“So soon? I was hoping we could talk a bit more,” I said, already feeling abandoned. He just said he missed me!

“We will only talk more when you give me the money I’ve asked for,” he said, and before I could argue, the line went dead. I contemplated calling him back, but somehow, I knew it wouldn’t end well.

Sadness filled my heart as I stared at my phone.

Why was he so impatient with me? I was literally fighting with the devil over here, and there he was acting like I was at fault?

This was all because of Julian.

If he didn’t keep me hostage here, things would have been different. Silas was probably stressed and he didn’t mean to treat me this way.

Then, I began to ponder hard on things I could do to piss Julian off even more. The dinner stunt was a good prank, but it wasn’t enough for him to send me packing. I needed to get more on his nerves.

Soon, someone came to fix my door and, although I was grateful, I wasn’t feeling repentant.

By morning, I had another plan in mind. I remembered Julian warned me to stay away from his things, and I was literally banned from going to his wing.

When I went down for breakfast, Julian was already off to work, so I knew I needed to act fast.

After breakfast, I made sure all the maids were off the hallways before I began to explore again.

And this time, to his wing.

I got lost a lot of times, but I didn’t give up.

When I got there, his room was easy to find. It was a very big and bold brown door that stood out amongst the other doors. Well, two doors actually, and I was ready to check out both of them.

I approached the first door and looked around to make sure I was alone before turning the knob.

Luckily, it was unlocked. I carefully pulled the door open and took a look inside.

Damn.

The room suited him so well.

Everything was coated in black—his bed covers and even the paintings on the wall. The only thing that added a bit of color to the room was the bed lamp and some intricate designs on the wall.

I walked in and looked around the well-arranged room. Even when I acted as if I wasn’t scared of Julian, standing here in his very space and filled with his intoxicating smell, I couldn’t ignore the shudder that ran through me.

I didn’t dare to touch his things. Well, not yet. But I needed to be fast so I wouldn’t be caught.

After running my eyes quickly over his things, I stepped out and proceeded to the next room that stood out just like his.
