Chapter 31 31

Chapter 31 31
Nora’s POV

The effect was immediate.

From the corner of my eye, I watched as Julian took a spoonful and almost immediately spat out the food with a loud yell.

“What the hell is this?” he yelled as he spat out the food, looking very irritated. He didn’t waste time; he crushed all the plates in front of him to the floor with a loud crash.

Our eyes met, and for a brief moment, I shuddered at the look in his eyes. They were murderous. Masking my fear, I looked away, all the while maintaining a calm look.

“Who made this?” he snapped, and immediately the cook came rushing in, as well as the other maids. They all looked scared.

“I am very sorry, sir,” Lucy begged as she bowed slightly.

“Who. made. this?” Julian gritted out, pointing his fingers at the mess on the ground.

“Me, sir. I am sorry—

“Do you want to fucking kill me? What the hell is this?”

They all looked scared, and for a moment, I felt pity for them because they did nothing. I was the person behind it all.

“Please—

“Get out of my sight! I never want to set my eyes on any of you ever again!”

Now, I couldn’t take it anymore. I wasn’t going to let them lose their jobs because of me. But I wasn’t sorry either. The main reason was to piss him off.

“It’s not that deep, chill,” I inputted, taking a spoonful of my mac and cheese. His angry eyes snapped to mine before traveling to my food.

“Shut your mouth, will you?” he snapped, pointing an angry finger at me. Still relaxed, I took another spoonful of my food and chewed on it slowly, deliberately waiting for him to realize what was going on.

As if on cue, his eyes moved from anger to confusion, then to realization.

“How come you’re able to eat your meal?” he asked as he watched me eat.

“Because there’s nothing wrong with mine,” I answered with a small smile.

He paused for a moment to analyze the whole situation, and within seconds, his anger filled his eyes again.

“Nora! You cursed witch! What did you do to my food?” Now, he was all red with anger.

“Nothing, just a little something to help with digestion.”

“You—

“Oh please. You should be happy I even let you take a sip of your water in peace. What do you need food for?”

“Have you gone nuts?” Now, he was wheeling his wheelchair towards me. I couldn’t pretend to be brave anymore; I got off my seat and began to walk away from him.

“Don’t come any closer to me!” I snapped.

“You’re going to pay for this, I swear it. Do you think you’re still your stupid father’s spoiled child? I will not condone any form of disrespect from you!” Now, he was getting even closer.

Scared now, I didn’t wait for him to catch up with me. I don’t know what I was thinking when I thought of ruining his dinner, but now, I was scared. Scared of how angry he looked.

Without wasting more time, I sprinted for the stairs and headed straight to my room. For once since I arrived here, I was glad that Julian couldn’t pursue me.

By the time I got to my room, I was breathless, but I didn’t mind. I made sure to lock the door before sitting on the edge of my bed. My mind was still reeling from what had happened at the dining room.

Was I too extreme?

A loud knock sounded at my door, making me jerk in fear.

“Nora, open this damned door!” Julian’s angry voice rang out. I didn’t dare utter a word; I stayed as quiet as possible.

How did he get up here so fast?

“I know you’re in there! Come out this instant or I’ll break down this door!”

Still, I didn’t say a word.

“I see you want it the hard way,” I heard him say. There was silence for a moment, and I hoped he was gone. But before I could calm down, someone began hitting the door with something heavy.

A loud scream tore out of my throat as my whole body jerked in alarm.

“Stop this!” I yelled in fear, but my words were swallowed by the loud banging on the door. Confused, I jumped off the bed and tried to hold the door from falling apart, but before I could even make it there, the door tore open, and I barely made it out of the way as it fell towards me.

My mouth hung open in mortification as I stared at a pissed-off Julian, who looked breathless but still very angry.

“How did you—

“If you think you’ll be able to play little pranks around my mansion as if you’re still a kid, then you’re damn wrong. For this stupid and thoughtless act, you will be punished,” he grinded out. “I’ve tried to be nice by ignoring your very existence, but it seems you crave my attention so badly. You’re nothing to me, and you will remain nothing. Henceforth, you’re prohibited from leaving this very room. This shall remain your very prison until I am done with your worthless family.”

I gasped, wondering if perhaps I misheard him. With the look on his face, I realized I heard him right.

Of all the things he said, the one word that clung to my ears was ‘prison’. He must be delusional if he thinks I’ll be his prisoner.

Even my own family couldn’t lock me up; what makes him, a crippled jerk, think he could hold me down?

I burst into bitter laughter, and it only seemed to annoy him more. I watched as his eyes darkened.

“You find this funny?” he asked, his voice shaking with rage. “Oh, you think I cannot detain you here? You think your so-called family would even blink if I killed you this very minute?”

His words hurt more than I expected. Maybe it hurt so badly because he was speaking the truth.

He watched my heart shatter with a satisfied grin on his face.

“I own your filthy body, and I control your very being. If I chose to feed you to the vultures this very minute, no one can stop me. No one cares about you, and no one ever will.”

I felt like a sword was being pushed deeper and deeper into my heart with every word that left his mouth.
