The Secret Of A House
"Aiming at me? What did he say? Damn it, because of his strange words I couldn't sleep all night."
Ruby mumbled irritably because she was still too sleepy, but sunlight was already coming in through the cracks in her bedroom window which showed that she was ready now and it wasn't the time to stay in bed.
She lifted her head from the pillow while yawning. When she thought back to Aiden taking her home last night, she felt even more afraid because she thought that Aiden might come again.
Knock...knock...knock...
She heard a knock on the door from outside and it seemed that the knock had been going on before she woke up.
"Who comes so early in the morning?"
Half-heartedly she lifted her feet and went down to the second floor to open the door. But when the door opened, she saw the back of a man standing with his back to the door.
"Who's he?" She thought. Realizing that the door had been opened, the man immediately turned around.
"Damian?"
"Hi, good morning?"
"M-morning? What are you doing here?"
"I want to meet you, I saw you from my bedroom window. Because I happen to still have a few more days off, so I want to chat with you."
Damian smiled gently, he still looked cool and dignified like during his school days. Realizing that she was still wearing her pajamas and hadn't even washed her face, she felt embarrassed if she had to let Damian see her in this condition.
"D you want to wait for me for a moment? It just so happens that I just woke up and haven't washed my face yet, so I'll get ready for a bit. How about it?" She said while smiling awkwardly. Damian chuckled because it turned out Ruby was still as cute as before.
"Okay, there's no need to rush. You can shower and get ready first!"
"So you can wait inside. Coincidentally, the electricity in this house hasn't been reconnected by the electrician. So it might be a little dark!"
"It's okay. Have you called the electrician? Do you want me to help you contact them?"
"Actually, I visited their office yesterday, maybe they will come this afternoon."
"In that case, thank God!"
"What would you like to drink? Tea or coffee?"
"Don't bother, I happen to have breakfast and coffee at home."
"Is that so? Alright, then wait a moment, okay? Not long, only fifteen minutes!"
Ruby, feeling nervous, hurried back to her room. Honestly, she felt very embarrassed that Damian had to see her like this. However, seeing Damian today made her remember what his mother had said the other day, saying that Damian worked as a member of the FBI now.
She didn't know if she could ask Damian that as a topic of conversation considering it had been so long since they had talked to each other. After graduation, they took different paths and entered different universities, while she had to move from this city with her mother.
After showering and getting ready, Ruby went down to the first floor where Damian sat on the sofa waiting for her. Seeing her appearance, Damian smiled and immediately got up from the sofa.
"You haven't changed much have you?"
"R-really?"
"Yes, it's still the same as before. Still so beautiful."
Ruby couldn't help but smile when Damian openly praised her like this. She felt nervous because she was still not used to this situation.
"You too, still the same as before."
"Oh yes?"
"Still very cool!"
"Is that so? Hahaha... thank you."
"On the first day I came, I met your mom. Your mom called me because suddenly a woman came into this empty house. I immediately hid because I was afraid I would think it was a thief. So-"
"You met my mom?" Damian immediately cut off Ruby's words and from the look on her face, he looked shocked.
"Yeah, I met your mom. I even hid in the basement. But because I didn't want to cause trouble, I decided to come out. What's wrong?"
Damian looked at Ruby with a strange expression as if he couldn't believe what Ruby had just said. Seeing Damian's reaction, he was confused about how to continue his words.
"You really saw my mom?"
"Of course, your mom even told me that my dad disappeared three years ago after being suspected of suffering from schizophrenia."
"That's not possible!"
"What?"
"You can't possibly meet my mom, Ruby."
"W-why isn't it possible? I actually met your mom and I-"
"My mom is dead, Ruby!"
"What?"
"My mom died two years ago, so it's impossible for you to meet her!"
"What? That's impossible, but I-"
Ruby trembled, her heart beating fast. She was very confident in what she said. Four days ago, when she first came to this house, Mrs. Erika called her and made her have to hide. It all felt real and she could even remember their conversation that day.
"My mom disappeared for three days after talking to your dad who was starting to lose his sanity. On the day my mom disappeared, no one knew where my mom had gone and at that time I was not in this city. When I heard the news about my mom, I decided to go home and discovered that my mom was dead and her body was kept in the basement of this house."
"What?"
"Since the day my mom disappeared, your dad also disappeared. When this house was demolished, your dad was nowhere to be found. It is suspected that at that time, your dad killed my mother after thinking that my mom was your mother. The last person who saw your dad and my mom talking was my younger brother. He said that your dad kept screaming and calling my mom a witch and gave birth to a child who was a fox demon which made her life continue to receive curses and disasters."
