Chapter 39 Apology in Chains
The white room was cold and smelled like a hospital. It was the kind of cold that made you feel like you would never be warm again. Iris Vale was tied to a chair with straps on her wrists and ankles. There were pads on the straps so they would not hurt her. She had things on her head and chest that were beeping and tracking what was happening inside her mind. Councilor Blackwood was inside her head talking to her and making promises that she would live forever if she just stopped fighting.

Iris Vale would not stop fighting. She could not stop fighting.

"Get out of my head " she said through her teeth. She was. Her body was moving against the straps. She was getting memories that were not hers. Memories of people who had died. She was fighting back with memories of her own like the times Lucien touched her skin and the times her children laughed. The love she felt for them was what kept her going. It was stronger than anything

Victor Lang was standing next to her watching her. "You are very strong Iris Vale " he said. "Most people would have given up by now.. You are still fighting. It will not help you though. The transfer is almost done. Soon you will be. Councilor Blackwood will be in your body. Your husband will not even know the difference."

Iris Vale spit at him. "Lucien will know " she said. "He always knows me."

Then she felt a pain in her head. Councilor Blackwood was talking to her again. You love him much. That is nice. I will like wearing your skin and taking care of your children.

Iris Vale screamed.

Lucien Graves was moving through the guys building like a ghost. He was. Bleeding, but he did not care. He just wanted to find Iris Vale. She was his wife and the mother of his ten children. He loved her more than anything.

He had fought through guards to get to her. His friends Adam, Aurora and Dawn were helping him. They were very good at fighting. The rest of the team was protecting the children else.

When Lucien got to the room Victor Lang was getting ready to finish the transfer. Lucien kicked the door open. Shot Victor in the shoulder. Then he ran to Iris Vale. Took the things off her head.

"I am here " he said. "I have got you. You are safe now."

Iris Vale fell into his arms. Started crying. They. It was messy and sad. Lucien was touching her over to make sure she was okay. She was holding him tight.

"I thought I was going to lose you " she said. "I thought they were going to erase me and put someone in my body."

"Never " Lucien said. "I would know you no matter what body you were in."

Then Victor started talking again from the floor. "You did not save the children " he said. "We took them while you were busy. They are here in this building.. We are going to transfer our minds into their bodies."

Iris Vales legs gave out. Lucien caught her. He was also very upset. They saw the children on the screens all strapped to chairs and crying. The newborn babies were in pods.

Victor was laughing. "You thought you saved them. You did not. The transfer is already happening. At midnight our minds will be in their bodies. You will not be able to do anything."

Then a little girl named Grace appeared in the doorway. She was holding a key. "I lied to them " she said. "I did not start the transfer. I was just buying us some time.. We have to go now. The real Councilor Blackwood is coming."

The group started moving, fighting through the building to save the children. Lucien was carrying two of the ones and shooting at the same time. Iris Vale was protecting the babies with her body. Aurora and Dawn were fighting hard killing the bad guys.

When they finally got to the children they were all very upset. Iris Vale and Lucien were. Hugging the children. They were checking to make sure they were okay.

Victor had one last trick. The doors. The walls started showing pictures of the bad guys. Councilor Blackwood was talking to them. "You fought hard " he said. ". Love is your weakness. Watch."

All the children started convulsing. The parents felt it too. It was like they were in pain.. Then Grace stepped forward and put the key in the computer.

It was like a bomb went off. All the childrens markers stopped working. The clones in the building all fell down. The children were screaming,. They were finally free.

When it was over the children were safe.. Some of them were very hurt. Aurora and Dawn were. Could not get up. Hope was holding her head. Saying that the voices were finally quiet.

Iris Vale and Lucien were holding each other crying. They were surrounded by their children in a helicopter. Lucien kissed Iris Vale slowly. "We did it " he said. "We saved them."

Iris Vale kissed him back. "We are finally free " she said. "No more chains. No more apologies. Just us."

Then Luciens phone started beeping. There was a message, from the guys. You saved their bodies. Some of their minds are already gone. Look at your children tonight. One of them is not yours anymore.

The screen went dark.
