267. Emily - Epilogue
It takes my husbands—I still get all giddy when I say my husbands–about six weeks after we got married to finish transforming the house I bought into a daycare for the neighborhood families. Or whoever can’t afford a more expensive place.
On the day the last touches are finally done, they take me on a tour around the house and show me everything they’ve done. Even my dad and Allissa are present. Dad sold his huge house not long ago and bought something smaller for him, Allissa, and Harllow about ten minutes away from where I live.
“I think it’s perfect,” I say at the end of the tour.
“We still have to buy furniture, books, toys, and other things,” Allissa reminds me.
Which reminds me, “And hire at least two women to help us with everything.” My palm rests on my still flat stomach. Keeping food down lately has been more than hard, which has my men very unhappy. “Once the baby is here, I will be taking maternity leave.”
“Once the baby is here,” Rin says, “you will get all the help you will need.”
“It takes a village to raise a baby,” Dad chimes in, “and we are your village.”
Cirro glances at his watch. “Talking about the baby–we have an appointment with the doctor in half an hour.”
“Is everything alright?” my father rushes to ask.
Before I can reassure him, Yan replies, “She’s been feeling very sick lately. Not to mention that she barely eats anything.”
I fold my arms across my chest. “It’s called morning sickness,” I huff.
“I heard they’re the worst,” Allissa says. “I hope that when I’m pregnant, I won’t get morning sickness.” My blink makes her splutter, “Ander, Richard, and I had a conversation about the possibility of having more children in the future.”
My dad shoots me a mortified look, like he expects me to be upset about it. But why would I be? When he marries Allissa, Harllow will officially be my little sister. She already feels like she is.
A smile tugs at my lips. “So you finally decided to give me the brothers and sisters I’ve been asking for since I was little.”
Dad lets out a sigh of relief. “I don’t want you to think that just because I’m moving on from your mother, I won’t love you anymore. Because I will. You will always be my baby girl, my little princess.”
I hug him. “I know, Dad. And I love you too. You don’t have to be worried about me all the time. Go live your life. Have the family you always wanted.” I pull back so I can look into his eyes. “If you need permission to be happy, you have it. Be happy, Dad. Marry Allissa. Have lots and lots of babies with her.”
Tears shine in his eyes, and he kisses my forehead. “I am so glad I have a second chance to make things right with you. I promise to never disappoint you ever again.”
“I am glad too,” I say. I turn my attention to Allissa. “When we first met, I never thought that it would lead to this. If I had the chance to go back in time and redo my life, I wouldn’t, because I don’t want to miss the opportunity to become your friend and eventually introduce you to my dad. Life is hard, but when you meet that one person or persons who were meant for you, it’s easier to face the difficulties with them by your side.”
Allissa gives me a big hug. “You are my best friend in the entire world.”
“And you, mine,” I say.
Half an hour later, my husbands and I are sitting across from Doctor Ramírez while he studies my test results. He isn’t an obstetrician, but I pestered him so much about supervising my pregnancy that he finally gave in.
“The test results are normal, but I want to know how have you been feeling?” he asks.
I tuck a strand of my hair behind my ear before I reply, “Lately, the morning sickness has been… unbearable.”
He arches an eyebrow. “Can you tell me more?”
I glance at my bondeds, then say, “Lately, I can barely keep down any food. And don’t get me started on the smells. Especially the one of meat. Or perfume. Or my men after work.” I take in a deep breath. “Pregnancies are supposed to be hard, but I didn’t expect to feel so sick.”
“Well, you have just entered your second trimester. Your body is working hard to grow your baby, so you will feel tired more often,” the doctor explains, making me groan. “Look at the bright side–you have five men to pamper and take care of you.”
“We sure do,” Steve agrees, and I can’t argue with that.
Doctor Ramírez rises from his chair. “Let’s take a look at the baby,” he says, motioning for us to follow him over to the room where the ultrasound machine.
Once my t-shirt is up and the gel is spread across my stomach, Doctor Ramírez gently presses the wand against my stomach and takes a look at the monitor.
“Everything is looking good,” he says. “The baby is developing as it should.”
I watch the monitor as well, but my gaze flicks to the doctor’s face just as his expression changes.
“What’s wrong?” I ask as I squeeze Yan’s hand hard.
It takes him several seconds to reply. “I’ve never seen a case like yours before. I read about them, but I never thought I would actually meet someone with superfetation.”
“Super what?” Steve asks.
But it is Cirro who says, “She got pregnant while being pregnant.”
“What?!” I shriek.
Doctor Ramírez says, “He is right. You are now pregnant with two babies.”
“How… how is that even possible?” Rin asks.
So Doctor Ramírez explains, “In very rare cases, like yours, an egg gets fertilized during an outgoing pregnancy, resulting in two babies at different development stages.”
“Are there any risks?” Mads wonders.
“The only risk is that the second baby will be born earlier,” Doctor Ramírez replies. “I will want you to come in every two weeks to see how the second baby evolves.”
My heart sinks as all I can think about is one of my babies won’t make it.
The doctor keeps speaking. “Don’t worry, I will take really good care of you and your babies.”
“We won’t let anything happen to any of you,” Rin promises, and I believe him.
Later during the day, after we pick Roman and Harper from Nonna, we spend the rest of the afternoon playing with them and Grace in our backyard.
As the air fills with laughter and pure love fills my heart, I know that no matter what, the babies growing inside me will be fine.
Happiness is not something that is given freely. You have to fight hard for what you want.
I was never a fighter, but I was stubborn enough not to give up on my dreams. Finding happiness hasn’t been easy. I had to walk on a road full of tears and pain and suffering. But it was worth it.
Rin sits next to me on the porch’s stairs.
“Penny for your thoughts,” he says.
I lean my head on his shoulder and say, “For years, I was afraid I could never share with anyone the love I have in my heart, and now, I have so many people to love. I am so lucky.”
His arm wraps around me. “We are the lucky ones to be loved by you, sweet Redemption.”
I did try to write the Piercing Ceremony, but I do need a break. Don't worry, it will be included in paperback - follow me on socials to know when the paperback will be available. On FB I am Amy T Author.
Loved - This book will be on the app starting in October. I need 30k words for the book to appear on the app, so maybe the end of October? I don't have a date since I haven't started working on it.
But I do have a blurb - this is what has occurred to me today, so it might change.
Anne
A long time ago, a princess lived in a castle guarded by four knights. One day, the evil witch killed the princess, and the knights swore they would make her pay.
Dimitri, Dominick, Ivan, and Uri were supposed to be my knights in shining armour. For a while, they were.
Kids grow up and stop believing in fairy tales — but not Dimitri, Dominick, Ivan, and Uri. In their story, I’m the witch, and they will stop at nothing to pay me back for an accident from our childhood.
On that day, my sister Isla drowned.
They want to show me what happens to evil witches. They have no idea I’ve been stuck in a nightmare ever since that cursed day.
Will they be able to see that I am no witch, but a woman who is so broken, she doesn’t know who she is?
