Chapter One Hundred.

Chapter One Hundred.
Veda blinked at him, confused, then raised an eyebrow.

'Eat? Seriously? Shouldn’t he be dining at some expensive restaurant right now instead of waiting for me to serve him food from my fridge?' she thought bitterly.

But then another thought rushed in.

No.

'It’s best I give him something so he can leave. Your safety first, Veda. The quicker the better.'

She gave a tight nod, forcing her lips into a small, nervous smile, and walked toward the kitchen.

Varun’s eyes followed her every step, and soon enough she could hear him behind her.

In the kitchen, Veda pulled open her small fridge and reached for the leftover chicken and rice, simple home food, chicken curry with steamed rice.

The moment she turned around, she nearly jumped, flinching at the sight of Varun standing so close, staring at her with an intensity that made her skin crawl.

“Can you please… move back?” she asked, trying to keep her voice steady.

He didn’t answer right away. His gaze lingered for a while before he gave a small nod and stepped back, only two steps.

Not enough. Still too close.

Veda’s stomach tightened, fear curling inside her as she placed the dish in the microwave and pressed start.

The low hum of the machine filled the silence. She kept her eyes glued to the turning plate, hoping, praying, that the food would heat fast enough for him to eat and finally leave her place.

“You look so beautiful, Veda.” he said suddenly.

Her pulse skipped, panic shooting through her chest.

She pretended not to hear him, her jaw tightening as she balled her fists at her sides.

Keeping her gaze firmly on the microwave, pretending the glowing timer was the most important thing in the world.

“You smell good too. I like it.”

But again she stayed silent.

“Do you like this place?” he asked then, his tone lighter, almost casual.

That made her turn and glance at him, her eyes narrowing slightly in disbelief.

“Um, yeah. I do. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t be staying here.” she replied, a hint of irritation creeping into her voice.

Varun tilted his head, studying her. “This place looks small. I thought it might be inconvenient for you.”

Veda raised an eyebrow, annoyance sparking despite the fear. “And if it was, how is that your trouble?”

“I can get you a better place.” he offered without hesitation, almost pleading.

Her stomach twisted. The very thought made her uneasy.

'Get me a better place? By Him?'

“No, thank you. I’m fine. No need.” she said quickly.

For a second, his face fell.

But before he could speak again, the microwave beeped, and Veda immediately rushed to open it.

She pulled out the steaming dish, grateful for the distraction.

She served the chicken and rice neatly onto a plate, Setting the plate down on the small kitchen island, she forced her voice steady. “Here. You can eat.”

Varun looked at the food before him, then sat down on the island chair, his eyes never really leaving Veda’s face.

“Did you make this?” he asked, picking up the spoon and tasting a mouthful.

'Is it that bad?' Veda thought.

“Yes, I did.” she answered.

Varun nodded slowly, continuing to eat.

But Veda couldn’t tear her eyes away, she found herself watching every little movement he made. Watching closely.

It was unconscious on her part, but he caught it immediately.

His dark eyes flicked up, catching hers.

Their gazes met, and Veda looked away at once, embarrassed that he caught her staring.

“I don’t mind you watching me, Veda.” Varun said his voice almost husky. “It’s one of my dreams.”

Her head turned back toward him again, brows furrowing in disbelief.

'What a messed-up dream you have,' she thought, the frown pulling at her lips.

“Cute.” he muttered under his breath, a small smile tugging at the corner of his mouth when he saw the irritation flash across her face.

“You want to hear the other dreams?” he asked casually, almost teasing.

Veda nearly rolled her eyes, fighting the urge to groan. “No, please…i rather not. Only God Know what other messed-up dreams you have.” she replied getting irritated.

Varun stilled. He carefully set the spoon down, wiped his mouth with the napkin. His expression was serious now.

His eyes locked onto hers, holding her still.

“I also dream to kiss you Veda...” he said, and for a moment the place went silent..."Can i?" He asked already moving toward her.

Veda’s eyes widened in panic.

The audacity of him. Anger rushed hot and heavy through her chest.

“Don’t you have manners?” she snapped, “Leave my place. Right now. Out!.”

Varun blinked, his throat bobbing as he swallowed hard. He stood, looking almost desperate, regret flashing across his face.

“I…I’m sorry, Veda, I–I—”

“Leave..” she cut him off, her voice louder now, her heart pounding with fury and fear.

He hesitated, eyes searching her face, but one look at her clenched fists and blazing eyes made him move.

He turned and walked slowly toward the door.

“Next time you come near me, I swear I’ll put a restraining order on you..Stay away from me. Far Away!.” Veda spat, pushing at his arm with all the strength she had, shoving him out of the apartment before slamming the door shut with a loud bang.

Varun froze outside her door. His jaw ticked as he clenched his fist so tightly his knuckles turned white.

“Restraining order?” he whispered to himself, his voice darkened.

His eyes hardened, a shadow falling over them as rage burned in his chest.

He stormed toward his car, slammed the door shut, and sped off, the tires screeching against the pavement.

Inside, Veda stood with her back against the door, her chest heaving.

She was furious, her hands trembling from the confrontation.

“He is mad, that’s it..” she muttered to herself, her eyes narrowing in disgust. “I’m changing this place next week, and I’m getting that restraining order. I’m so done with the crazy bastard.”

Her footsteps echoed angrily against the floor as she stormed into her room, slamming the door behind her.
