Part 116 a
Olive pouts. There's really no remedy to coax a smile out of her, even a little. It feels like her heart is wrapped in annoyance and being overly emotional. Well... why not? The day she feared has arrived.
Wait.
A frightening day? Is there such a thing?
For Olive, there are days when she feels like she no longer has Thomas's attention. It's like being in a long-distance relationship, not seeing each other for a long time. Especially not being able to see his face while he's at Senayan. Oh God! Sometimes Olive does tend to overdramatize things, but what can she do? She really feels that way.
It's been two weeks since her mother's wedding. Almost every day, Seira keeps her updated, and Olive herself often gets absorbed in gossiping through the airwaves. Even though there are often signal problems, Olive doesn't mind. Proof is, she just enjoys spending a lot of time chatting with her mom, especially after work.
She shares a lot with her mother, especially about food and her activities at the office. Olive also doesn't want to behave recklessly. She walks slower, not as restless as usual, not as playful as a deer. And another thing, sometimes she keeps her lips sealed if she wants to speak carelessly.
Her mother-in-law says, "Oh, Olive. Don't talk recklessly. It's not good, especially while pregnant."
But logically, what's the connection? Her mouth is above, but the baby is in the womb. But because this is her mother-in-law's advice, Olive doesn't dare to object and is also reaffirmed by her mother, so Olive obeys. So her words are a bit sane, although sometimes they still go off track.
"Don't give me that look, Bee," Thomas sighs softly. He cups his wife's face, who is still pouting stubbornly, today is finally here.
The day when Thomas will work for the last time at Senayan. Sure, many staff from several divisions have been busy preparing a farewell party for Thomas. But Olive doesn't feel like it. What if they separate at work? What if she misses him? It's better if they're still at Senayan. She just needs to go up to the fourth floor. Pretend to deliver some reports, just say that Marta doesn't want to check, and it's done. She can meet Thomas even if it's just for a short time.
Well, there's Aufar sitting in the room too, but Olive's eyes are satisfied looking at her husband.
"I'm still mad at Mr. Thomas," Olive still sulks.
"It was a joint decision, wasn't it, at that time?" Thomas chooses to sit next to Olive. Since last night, he noticed Olive's free-fall mood change. "Mr. Thomas is only working at Benhill, not going out of town or out of the country, Bee."
"Still, Mr. Thomas," Olive leans against Thomas's shoulder. "What if I miss you?"
"Are you going to miss me every day?" He kisses the top of Olive's head. They are already in their neat uniforms, and Thomas has warmed up the car's engine. He goes back to grab Olive's bag and make sure his wife is ready to leave with him. But it turns out, his wife is still sitting on the edge of the bed with a sour expression.
The matter is clear; it's Thomas's last day working at Senayan. Tomorrow, he will officially work at ShopaShop.
"Yeah, right!" Olive pinches Thomas's waist lightly, which makes her husband grimace but chuckle in response. "Am I not making you miss me anymore? Am I ugly because I'm pregnant?" Suddenly, this bad thought strikes Olive. She even takes a little distance and looks at Thomas with an unbelieving gaze. She holds his face that she had touched up with light makeup. Then her face becomes even sadder, and she bows her head. "You're mean!"
Thomas sighs deeply. "You're the one saying that. I never said anything like that." But swear to whatever, Olive, who is in a high-level sulking mode for Thomas, is incredibly adorable. Her eyes blink cutely, teary, which may just take one blink, and her tears will fall. Her lips are thin but slightly fuller at the bottom, which she applies with coral color or whatever Thomas doesn't really understand, but one thing's for sure, that color always complements Olive's face, pouting disapprovingly towards him. Sometimes it also narrows in frustration depending on her mood. So adorable.
"If I miss you?" Olive asks once again.
"Video call. Or how about I swing by the office for lunch later?" Olive falls silent.
"Imagine this, working in the same office but hardly ever having lunch together. You have unpredictable hours while I'm sometimes caught up in meetings. But having lunch with your wife is enjoyable, you know," Thomas pulls Olive closer to him. "Plus, our office hours are the same."
"What if you get busy? Working late? Running late to pick me up?" Thomas laughs. "No way, Bee. Yesterday I was super busy with the handover, right? But in the new office, it feels different, and I try my best to fulfill my responsibilities well. So, I always come home on time."
"What if there's a pretty coworker at your office?" Olive is actually feeling conflicted because of what? The separation at work or wrapped in jealousy but not willing to admit it? Thomas wants to laugh, but he holds it in. He doesn't want Olive to hear him and prolong her endless sulking. It's a hassle for him too.
So, Thomas cups his wife's face again. He stares at her intently. He also strokes Olive's cheek with both of his thumbs. "Listen to me carefully, Babe."
Olive chooses to stay silent, even though her lips are pouting. If Thomas sneaks a quick kiss, will she get mad? Or will it end up with both of them being late? But wait! The thing that could create a sensation ending in a breathless competition is something Thomas can hold back. If he's honest, he can't hold back for too long. Unfortunately, Thomas is still afraid to touch Olive.
Her check-up appointment is still next week. Or... maybe he should ask now? Not just that. Thomas thinks if he presses too hard and can't control himself because Olive is too enjoyable to resist, it could be dangerous, right? Don't think Thomas hasn't read many articles about pregnancy at a young age, which is still vulnerable. And he's studied the unexpected mood swings of pregnant women. Even though it's said to be normal, considering Olive, who is now pregnant with their child, it feels unusual because many miracles accompany it.
"For me, the most beautiful in my world is only Olive. There's no one else." Olive still looks puzzled.
"I'm so lucky to have a wife like you," Thomas continues.
"Liar," Olive murmurs softly.
"Huh? Want to hear about the luck I've got?" Seeing Olive's pretty face starting to show annoyance and frustration, Thomas smiles thinly. His bait worked. He looks at the clock on the bedroom wall; it's still almost six. He still has time to talk. He won't waste the time they have.
"What?" Olive asks impatiently. "I'm waiting, you know."
Thomas's smile widens. "Patience, okay?" He then releases his hold on Olive's face. He chooses to tightly hold his wife's hand, intertwining their fingers, one of which has their wedding ring on.
"First, you're the most beautiful. This isn't a lie. Among all the women I've been close to, you're the winner." What Thomas says is the truth. Even when she's pregnant, although her belly hasn't grown too much yet, it seems like Olive has gained some weight. Proof is her chubby cheeks.
But it doesn't matter. For Thomas, she's even sexier now. Plus, Olive's body is fuller and perfect for cuddling all night long. Even though sometimes he wonders, Thomas still goes along with whatever Olive eats within her control.
Her mother says, "You're lucky, Thomas, Olive isn't picky about food. Thank God, Mrs. Giana, you know her, right? Lina? When she was pregnant with her second child, she couldn't eat at all. Had to be on IV. Weak all the time until she became skinny. Pitiful to see. Thank God the baby was healthy. What if it affected the baby?"
True, though.
