203-Something Feels Different
Yuna:
It had been two days that Kedron had been taking care of me.
He made sure nobody else was allowed near me.
He was the one who brought food, tasted it first, and then fed me.
He had really helped me a lot in just two days. I mean, we only had the luxury of two days anyway, because I could tell his father was getting impatient.
He would send maids asking us to join him for a talk, but Kedron would just deny it.
I knew there wasn’t long before he would give in. His father would never let him disobey.
Now it was the third day. However, it seemed someone else wanted to speak with me first.
Denzel walked in, with Kedron rolling his eyes behind him. He had been coming around a lot, insisting on speaking with me.
I remembered the last time, how he had warned Kedron about how deadly I could be.
To be honest, I didn’t blame him. I mean, wouldn’t it be scary for anyone?
I could not control someone’s emotions or ask them to feel a certain way for me.
Even when I wasn’t married to him, there was nothing between us, so he didn’t have to sacrifice himself for me.
I realized that when I was tied in the cave, even though I had been given two mates, I had truly forgotten about one of them.
My mind had only been stuck on Kedron, starved, deprived of sleep, comfort, and food, and losing blood so fast.
There was only one face I remembered, and it was Kedron’s.
Kedron placed two seats right next to the bed. He sat close to me, and Denzel took the seat right next to him.
“So we’ve got the criminal with us,” Denzel said.
“Michaelson,” I stated, letting him know there was no need to hide his name.
I knew it was traumatizing, but with Kedron’s help, I could look Michaelson in the eye.
“Right. Michaelson is in custody. We’re going to make sure he pays for what he’s done,” Denzel continued, shifting in his seat. Then, he asked, “Are you okay?”
It was the gentlest question, yet my heart did not flutter.
“I’m fine, thank you. But the real thanks goes to Kedron,” I said, stretching my hand out and placing it over the back of Kedron’s hand on his thigh.
He smiled comfortably.
“Right, of course. However, we still have to find out whether you’re guilty of the demise of Lady Jane or not,” Denzel said, shifting the topic to another pressing matter.
I rolled my eyes tightly, sliding my hand away from Kedron and leaning back in the bed.
“There’s one more petal left, and we’ve sent our warriors to fetch it. However, we’ve managed to request some time before they present you to the court. In the meanwhile, I really hope we find that petal,” Denzel continued.
I began to feel that his visit was somewhat unnecessary.
If he wanted to know how I was doing, I could have just told him.
Why did he have to sit and talk with me? It wasn’t like he was giving me any information Kedron hadn’t already shared.
“You know, I wanted to tell you this myself, but Sharlin knows about us,” he finally said, giving me the news that Kedron hadn’t.
Honestly, my heart skipped a beat.
“She must hate me. How did she find out? There was no reason to tell her. There’s nothing between us anymore.”
As soon as I began complaining, Denzel glanced at Kedron, and I immediately stopped speaking.
“Did you tell her?” I inquired of Kedron, who avoided my gaze and scratched the back of his neck.
“They were getting divorced,” he replied.
He paused, adding information I had no prior knowledge of.
At this point, I was completely confused about what was happening in the castle.
“Why?” I questioned Denzel.
“Well, Sharlin lied to me about her past. Anyway, that’s beside the point. I just wanted to warn you that the bond you two have formed might not last, thanks to your husband,” Denzel remarked.
He then turned to Kedron again, who straightened and glared at him.
“Okay. Thank you for coming here and trying to manipulate my wife. You may leave now. That should be enough,” Kedron said.
Their tension had clearly reached its limit.
“Anyway, at dinner we will decide what will happen to Yuna and whether Father will grant us more time to locate the Petal of Truth,” Denzel continued, directing his words at me after Kedron dismissed him.
He stood, began to move toward the door, then paused and turned to look at me one final time.
Kedron tapped his back gently and opened the door.
“Go on. Leave now,” he instructed, guiding him out.
Once Denzel departed, Kedron locked the door and faced me.
“They argued, and I feared he would chase after you again,” Kedron explained, clarifying why he had felt the need to reveal our relationship to Sharlin.
“Kedron, it doesn’t matter what Denzel thinks. You should know I am never returning to him. That part of my life ended long ago,” I stated, pushing the blanket off and standing.
For the last two days, Kedron had not allowed me to walk because I had been too weak.
Every time I attempted to rise, I fell. But now I needed to move, even slightly.
I shuffled forward with effort, and he advanced toward me.
We met at the center of the room. I placed my hand over his chest and stared at him.
“All that time when I was restrained, there was only one person I thought of.” I noticed a small smile forming on Kedron’s lips.
Since my hand rested over his heart, I could feel it beating faster.
“And that person was you, Kedron.”
As soon as I spoke, I rose onto my tiptoes and pressed my lips to his, assuring him that I was no longer traumatized and that I was fine.
Just because Michaelson had tried to frighten me about intimacy on the full moon did not mean I would avoid intimacy with my husband.
But then there was a little hesitation in my body. Something I didn't tell Kedron about.
