Chapter 137 I Am Your Man
Chapter 137 I Am Your Man
Olivia, who had been feeling relaxed, suddenly tensed up when she heard this:
What did Charles mean by that?
Had he also planted people around her parents?
Or was he subtly telling her that he'd been watching her and her parents all along, warning her not to try anything funny?
Olivia's heart tightened, but she tried hard to keep the same expression on her face:
"Because of my leg injury, I haven't called them these past few days. I don't really know about this. What's wrong?"
"Nothing," Charles answered while tying his tie. "I just suddenly remembered that your leg will take quite a while to fully recover. When your parents come back, they'll definitely notice your injury. Have you thought about what you're going to tell them?"
"Not yet."
Olivia lowered her eyes, looking listless, but her mind was racing, thinking about how she could help her parents escape if Charles had sent people to watch them.
Charles raised his hand to check his mechanical watch:
"It's not too early or too late right now. Why don't you give them a call and ask about it yourself, so they won't worry about you."
Olivia didn't want to, but Charles kept standing at the door with no intention of leaving.
To avoid him discovering her thoughts, she still took out her phone and called Theodora.
Theodora's voice sounded cheerful, in good spirits.
It seemed the people Charles sent hadn't randomly appeared in front of them.
But this was only temporary. Once Charles discovered anything suspicious about her, her parents would be in danger at any moment.
All these recent events made it seem as if she had control over Charles and that he loved her to his core.
But Olivia, being in the middle of it all, had never forgotten how terrible the things Charles had done to her were.
Everything now was only because she seemed pretty obedient at the moment, and he thought he had misunderstood her and felt somewhat guilty.
Once he found out...
She herself would die without a burial place, let alone Quincy and Theodora, who had no emotional connection with him.
When that time really came, their fate would be even worse than hers.
Olivia casually chatted with Theodora for a few more sentences, briefly describing her recent life. Of course, she didn't mention Charles or her broken legs.
She didn't bring it up, but Theodora cared very much and asked about it on her own.
Olivia looked at Charles, who was still standing at the bedroom door listening to her talk, with mixed feelings in her eyes, and said with some embarrassment in her voice:
"Don't worry, we've been getting along well lately."
"Yes, I know. I promised that when you come back, I'll find a suitable time to bring him to meet you."
"Okay. Don't worry, I'll definitely keep my word."
"Alright, I have something to do, I'll hang up now. You and Dad have a good time there."
After hanging up, Olivia didn't look at Charles again. She threw her phone beside the pillow and pulled the blanket over her head.
Standing at the bedroom door, Charles hadn't heard what Theodora said on the phone, but from Olivia's responses and her expression, he clearly knew they were talking about him.
Rhys was still waiting in the car at the villa entrance, waiting to drive him to meet an important business partner.
Rhys had already urged him several times.
It was already very late now. If he didn't go, he might anger the partner.
Charles knew very well in his heart that he should leave.
But his feet just wouldn't move, as if they were glued there.
After hesitating for only a short moment, Charles followed his heart.
He tossed the coat draped over his arm aside, strode to the bed, smiled, and pulled Olivia's blanket away, looking at her almost completely red face.
Before, he had only seen her face this red in bed.
He hadn't expected that now, just from making a phone call with her parents and having them mention him, her face would turn this red.
Charles felt unprecedented joy; every cell in his body felt wonderful.
He bent down, pressed his forehead against Olivia's, and asked in an intimate tone:
"What did you just say to our mom? Why is your face so red?"
Olivia, who had been feeling shy, heard Charles say "our mom," and her eyes went wide.
She pushed against his chest: "What are you talking about? That's my mom."
"You're my woman, I'm your man, we're the closest people in the world to each other. Isn't your mom also my mom?" Charles smiled indulgently.
But Olivia only felt her heart grow even colder than before.
He sure talked a good game.
If she stopped listening to him, refused to obediently be his mistress anymore, would he still treat her mom as his mom?
She wouldn't think that even in her dreams.
Now their relationship seemed pretty good, yet he still had people watching her parents. Was this his way of treating her parents as his parents?
Did he think all the women in the world were fools?
That no matter what he'd done before, as long as he sweet-talked them a bit, they would love him to death?
Olivia gripped the corner of the blanket tightly, trying hard to control her emotions.
She turned away, her back to Charles, and urged:
"Don't you have things to do? Hurry up and go. I want to sleep."
Charles smiled as he watched her bury her head like an ostrich, leaned down to plant a kiss on her temple, grabbed his coat, and left.
To arrive on time and prevent the partner from having any complaints about Charles, Rhys pressed hard on the gas pedal while briefly reporting to Charles about the project they were about to discuss.
After Rhys finished, Charles didn't speak for a long time.
Rhys's heart rose to his throat.
In the past, Charles would only stay silent this long when he was dissatisfied with his report.
He carefully watched Charles's expression through the rearview mirror, seeing his face looking quite cold, and his heart sank further:
"Mr. Green, is... is there a problem with the project?"
"No." Charles came back to his senses and answered belatedly.
Rhys was wondering if Charles had encountered any problem and spaced out during something like this.
Before he could ask, he heard Charles say:
"Can you compress my work schedule as much as possible recently? I want to go back earlier in the afternoon. And it's best not to schedule any dinners or things like that at night either."
He wanted to free up as much time as possible to be with Olivia.
As long as he made her happy, maybe when Quincy and Theodora came back, Olivia would take him to meet them.
Charles knew he couldn't marry Olivia in the next few years, but he still wanted to meet her parents with her as soon as possible.
Just like ordinary couples do when their relationship reaches a certain point.
Rhys was completely speechless.
