Chapter 169 Who Is Your Girlfriend?

Chapter 169 Who Is Your Girlfriend?

After dealing with Dwayne, Alexander was left alone in the conference room.

He couldn't quite describe how he felt at that moment. It was just that a heavy weight seemed to have lifted from his heart, and his breathing had become much lighter.

If someone made a mistake and took a life, they had to accept punishment and sanctions. He would never cover for anyone. This was the retribution Dwayne deserved. As Dwayne's son, he too should atone for Dwayne's wrongs.

He picked up another document and looked down at it.

This agreement was something he had asked his lawyer to prepare separately, unrelated to Dwayne.

The content was simple, really just one matter.

That piece of land Daryl had owned years ago had changed hands several times before eventually being incorporated into a development project under the Kensington Group, becoming one of the Kensington Group's most important early assets. Much of the Kensington Group's later development was built on the foundation of that land. This agreement calculated the earnings from that land over the years, converted it to present value, and established a special fund in Sophia's name. She could designate its use for charity, education, or anything else she wanted, with no strings attached.

The figure was written on the last page—an enormous amount. Nearly the Kensington Group's net profit over twenty-some years.

Alexander carefully reviewed it once more, closed the agreement, put it in his briefcase, stood up, and walked out of the conference room.

The sky over Emerald Harbor had cleared up, a blue so clear and clean.

Meanwhile, at the Grant Group.

After returning from Silvermoon City, Victoria had started handling her fashion company's affairs. She was recently preparing to launch a new line of evening gowns, though she hadn't held much hope initially.

Her own company was small in scale. While the designs were good, she'd always been stuck on distribution channels and exposure. Sales had remained mediocre. The project she'd collaborated on with Julian had already shipped out, but she'd never had time to find new major clients.

This evening gown collection was actually inspired by Sophia's perfume studio. She incorporated perfume elements into the fabrics and accessories, even designing different scents for each garment's packaging, turning them into a series.

This way, she could also increase awareness of Sophia's perfume studio.

After months of preparation, on the first day of launch, the backend orders unexpectedly exploded.

Her assistant practically screamed as she burst into the office.

"Victoria! We're flooded with orders!"

Victoria was looking down at the news and jumped in fright.

"What did you say?"

"Our inventory is almost gone!" Her assistant's face was flushed with excitement. After helping manage things for so many years, this was the first time she'd encountered such a generous customer. "An overseas super client suddenly came in and bought out the entire series in stock, plus placed follow-up orders!"

Victoria froze for two seconds. "Everything?"

"Yes, everything!" Her assistant nodded frantically. "And they didn't even negotiate the price! They signed at the highest quote! So straightforward!"

Victoria blinked, her first thought being that the system had malfunctioned.

How did she not know she had such a free-spending customer?

Buying all this inventory would cost at least close to ten million dollars. She made high-end quality gowns, so naturally the prices weren't low. Whether they could even sell was unknown.

Victoria immediately opened the backend to confirm.

The order was real, and so was the contract. The other party had even paid seventy percent deposit in advance.

She stared at the screen for a long time, finally slowly furrowing her brow.

"Who's the client?"

"It only lists an overseas agency company's information," her assistant said, flipping through the materials. "The person in charge has a very high confidentiality level, but..."

She paused, then said quietly, "I can't help feeling like someone is deliberately helping us."

"After all, we've never handled orders from this agency before. We've never visited this client either. Who would normally buy so much merchandise without knowing anything about the other party?"

Hearing this, Victoria suddenly had an uneasy premonition.

She bit her lip and said, "Never mind all that for now. Since they placed the order, we'll fulfill it. Also, we don't accept order cancellations—make that clear to them."

"Got it!" Her assistant nodded seriously.

That evening, at Scent Memories.

Jack walked in wearing a black trench coat, looking lazy, carrying a bag of freshly bought toast.

"What's up, closing early today?" He glanced at the tidied-up shop and raised an eyebrow.

Victoria sat behind the counter without looking up, saying irritably, "Why are you here again?"

"To see you." Jack said it as if it were obvious.

Victoria couldn't be bothered to argue with him anymore. She'd thought that after being caught red-handed sneaking to Silvermoon City last time, he'd restrain himself, but unexpectedly, Jack had continued showing up every day, even more frequently than before.

Sometimes bringing coffee, sometimes desserts, sometimes nothing at all—just sitting there.

Victoria had chased him away, scolded him, given him the cold shoulder, but Jack completely ignored it all.

He was the type who pestered people until they had no choice, yet he wasn't like some creepy stalker.

He wouldn't force her, wouldn't make a scene, wouldn't go crazy, and wouldn't put on any arrogant attitude.

When she told him to shut up, he shut up. Except for telling him to leave—he'd never listened to that.

The day before yesterday, she'd stayed up late working and came to help Sophia handle Scent Memories business. She accidentally had a low blood sugar episode and nearly fainted in the shop. Jack's expression changed immediately, and he carried her to the hospital on the spot, only to be scolded by her the entire way.

Later he actually apologized seriously, "I'm sorry, I'll ask you first next time."

Victoria had been so angry she almost threw water in his face.

Was that the issue? The two of them had made Emerald Harbor's trending topics several times already, and Jack still didn't know to keep some distance!

At this moment, Jack placed the toast in front of her.

"Just bought it, smells great. Want to try some?"

Victoria pursed her lips. "I didn't say I wanted any."

"I know." Jack shrugged, pulled out a chair and sat down. Only the two of them were left in the shop. "But I'm guessing you will."

Victoria was speechless. She was actually a bit hungry.

Jack had been getting better and better at reading her lately.

Victoria thought about it and decided to ignore him, continuing to tidy up. She'd close the shop and leave in a bit.

Jack rested his chin on his hand watching her. After a few minutes, he suddenly said leisurely, "Your new gown collection is selling well?"

Victoria's movements paused slightly. She looked up at him. "How do you know?"

"It's in the news." He smiled innocently. "Says you're very creative."

Victoria stared at him for a few seconds, then after hesitating, asked the question on her mind. "Did you buy that order?"

"What order?" He played dumb.

"Jack." Victoria lowered her voice.

"Really wasn't me." His expression was serious. "I had someone buy it."

The air was quiet for two seconds.

"Are you sick?" Victoria said irritably.

"What's wrong with supporting my girlfriend's career?"

"Who's your girlfriend?"

"The former one," Jack dropped the grin and looked seriously into her eyes, "and the future one."
