Chapter 159: Abigail, Goodbye
Chapter 159: Abigail, Goodbye
Felix let out an uncontrollable muffled groan, his body shaking violently a few times. The poison slowly seeped into his bloodstream, and his voice came out in spasms, "You're completely insane. I don't want to die in this fire with you."
"Really?" Abigail used every ounce of strength to hold him down, watching the fire spread around them, growing bigger and bigger. "I'm afraid you don't have a choice."
The heat waves distorted the air into ripples, and the old wooden materials in the warehouse began to burn.
Natalia felt a sudden dull pain in her heart. Once again, she was watching her friend go to her death.
Just like many years ago when Sally chose to sacrifice herself to save her.
Natalia pushed down the sadness in her eyes, turned around decisively, and rushed toward the window on the side of the warehouse, searching for Sophia while running.
Sophia had rushed over as soon as she heard the sound of breaking glass. She watched the blazing flames, feeling increasingly uneasy.
Abigail hadn't told her about this part at all!
Natalia climbed out through the window, grabbed her wrist, and they both ran outside together, their footsteps pounding on the ground without stopping for a moment.
"Where's Abigail?" Sophia kept looking back, her tone anxious. "Why are you the only one?"
"Don't worry about it!" Natalia gritted her teeth, holding her tightly. "Run!"
Suddenly, a violent explosion erupted behind them.
The shockwave pushed from behind, knocking both of them to the ground. Sophia hit the ground and rolled twice, her palms scraping against the surface and breaking the skin.
She lifted her head. The orange-red firelight rising from the warehouse area seemed ready to swallow the entire street, burning a hole in the sky.
Debris and ash fell down. Sophia lay on the ground with red-rimmed eyes, her throat feeling blocked by something, uncomfortably tight.
She coughed a few times, and tears finally burst out, flooding down.
Natalia was beside her, propping herself up on her elbow, taking a few heavy breaths. She didn't say anything, just gently patted her back.
In the distance, sirens sounded.
"Let's go quickly. We shouldn't stay here long," Natalia said in a hoarse voice.
"Okay."
Sophia nodded, wiped her tears, and slowly sat up. Her knees were scraped on the ground, and her palms were bloody too.
She glanced at them, not caring at all, and turned her gaze back to the firelight.
Abigail, goodbye, and thank you.
She said softly in her heart.
Natalia got her into the car. She sat dazed in the back seat, feeling down, occasionally turning back to look at the warehouse a few more times.
"If you're tired, sleep for a bit," Natalia said. "I'll explain everything properly once we're safely back."
Sophia turned her gaze to her, looking at her beautiful profile, acknowledged with a sound, then lay down on the seat, closed her eyes, and rested briefly.
On the other side, after confirming Sophia had left safely, Alexander also got in his car. It wasn't hard for him to figure out what had happened. Those two killing each other was a good thing for him.
He no longer had to watch Felix all day, looking for a chance to strike.
The group of Felix's men waiting outside had their tires deflated and didn't manage to escape in time. The arriving police successfully took them away, except for a few who got lucky with intact vehicles.
The flames in the warehouse gradually died down. Abigail and Felix inside would remain there forever.
Evening, Birchwood Hotel.
Sophia groggily woke up, her eyes meeting a familiar yet strange ceiling.
"Hungry?" Seeing her stirring, Natalia, who had been working at the computer, stopped what she was doing and turned to look at her, her voice unusually gentle.
Sophia was stunned for a moment, looked around, and realized this was the hotel where she and Natalia had met before. Her stomach growled at an inappropriate time. She smiled awkwardly, "A little hungry."
"What do you want to eat? I'll order for you," Natalia asked, tilting her head.
"Same as you is fine," Sophia said casually, suddenly feeling something was strange. She really hadn't expected to be able to talk so calmly with Natalia one day.
"Alright then, two pasta dishes." Natalia didn't mind and directly called room service.
Sophia stood up and sat across from Natalia, staring straight at her. After hesitating for a few seconds, she spoke, "Abigail had already planned to die together with Felix, hadn't she? You knew about her plan, right? That's why she didn't want to tell me at first?"
Natalia looked away and took a sip of red wine. "That's right."
She paused, "Originally, I had decided to die with her. I was initially in charge of those people on the outside, but then you wanted to join, so I gave that job to you. I was worried Abigail alone couldn't stop Felix, so I suggested going to die with her and Felix together, but she refused."
As she spoke, Natalia looked up, giving Sophia a meaningful glance. "She said she was afraid you'd act impulsively and asked me to get you away from the scene, so I couldn't die with her. I saw she had it under control, Felix was definitely going to die, so I came out through the window, found you, and took you away."
"I'm alive, and I guess I have you to thank for that too." Natalia shrugged self-mockingly. "Felix erased all traces of me in the entertainment industry. It's very troublesome for me to go back now, not to mention all those negative news stories about me. I should thank him for blacklisting me, otherwise when something happened to him, I would have suffered too."
Sophia frowned, biting her lower lip, her heart aching. She thought that by helping, things would be easier to handle and Abigail would face much less risk, but in fact, she hadn't been able to change anything.
"Alright, let's eat first." As soon as the doorbell rang, Natalia got up to answer it. She came back carrying the pasta, along with several desserts. "I'll take you back later."
Sophia nodded. She ate a few bites silently, then suddenly looked up and asked, "So what are you planning to do from now on?"
"Haven't thought about it." Natalia's tone was lazy. "I still have quite a bit of money in my private account, enough to last me several lifetimes. I'll probably leave here."
Sophia blinked. "I heard Cassian has been looking for you."
"Really?" Natalia smiled. "Well, I appreciate his concern."
"You're not going to see him?" Sophia usually didn't interfere in other people's relationships, but for some reason, she suddenly really wanted to know what Natalia was thinking.
"No." Natalia answered without hesitation. "To be honest with you, I chose to be with him just to get closer to you guys."
Sophia gave a cold laugh. "I figured as much."
"Anyway, I'm not harming you now." Natalia was elegant when eating. "But I really didn't like you before, and I really did think about getting rid of you. If you died, there would be a lot less trouble, but also a lot less fun."
Sophia ignored her, finished her last bite, wiped her mouth with a napkin, and stood up. "Thanks for the meal. I'm leaving now."
