Chapter One Hundred And Nineteen
I fucking meant what I said, I’m leaving this city and I’m going back home. I already called my parents and I told them that I would be coming home. They could sense the heartbreak in my voice, and I kept telling them that I was fine and I just wanted to come home. They didn’t ask questions again, and they were ready to welcome me back home.
One thing I love about my parents is that they never pressure me to do things that I don’t want to do. They’ve always had my back and they’ve always been there for me. And I love them so fucking much for that. Those are the people who truly love me. No one here loves me, it’s all just fake love. Everyone here is so fucking fake.
So I’m packing my bags and I’m going to be getting out of this apartment and getting out of this city. I have already booked my flight, and I shall be going back home. I know Elijah and I saved up big time to get this house but this is all that it is, a house. It’s not the end of the world if I leave this place.
Besides, Elijah is dead, and everyone I’ve ever met in this city is fucking dead. Especially Max. I can’t wait to see his face ever again.
There’s a knock on the door, and if it’s Max, then I’m not opening it. He can burn in hell for all I care. I don’t know why he would be here when he clearly wanted me to see the romance he had with that bastard whom he claimed he felt nothing for.
I scoff and I shake my head. “I’m so fucking stupid.” so fucking stupid. But I’m not going to worry myself because I know that I’ll be done with that bastard for good, he’ll be out of my mind in no time, this I know.
Knock
Knock
Knock
“David, come on, open up. It’s me!” It’s Jeremy. I sigh and throw one of my favourite jeans on the bed, and I head toward the door. I open it and there he is wearing a black shirt and black pants. He looks like he just attended a funeral. He’s probably here to mourn the relationship that should never have existed.
“What the fuck is going on, David? I’ve been calling you. Why haven’t you been picking up any of my calls?”
“I’ve been busy,” I say going straight into my room to continue my folding so I can get the hell out of this place.
“Huh, so it’s true,” he says as he watches me fold my clothes and then put them in the box. “Your parents called me worried that you called them telling them that you were done with New York and you wanted to go back home.”
“Yep, that’s true.”
“But why? What the fuck happened I thought you went to see Max and that everything was okay,” he says.
“I thought so too, that’s until I walked into his penthouse, and he was fucking the same guy that he cheated on me with,” I tell him then I look away from him to continue folding my shit.
“What? I don’t- I don’t understand. Didn’t he call you to tell you to come see him? Didn’t he know that you were going to be there?”
“Yes, I bet he wanted me to see that he was fucking done with me and that he’s with someone new. All I know right now is that I’m fucking done with this shit Jeremy, I am tired of being cheated on and I am tired of being hurt by this city. I am leaving.” I spit and then I continue to put my clothes into the box.
There’s silence in the room it’s almost like I’m the only one in here. Like, Jeremy is not standing in the room with me.
Jeremy scoffs.
“You know, for someone smart his whole life, I didn’t think there would be a day where you would ever be so fucking stupid.” he snaps, and then I stop my folding, and then I look at him.
“Excuse me, you’re taking his side?”
“I’m not taking anyone’s side, but come on, David, you should know that something is at play here,” he says. “You tell him you love him, and he says that you should come over, and then when you get there,e, he’s fucking someone else even though he told you to come to his house? And you don’t think something’s wrong here.”
“I-I don’t-”
“David, there is a demon right now who is messing with you. There is a demon who wants this reaction out of you. Who is Miguel and where did he come from? And also, when you caught Max in the same bed with this Miguel guy, did he look confused like he wasn’t supposed to be there?”
I think, even though I tried not to think of that moment after I left that penthouse. “I mean, he did look distorted like he wasn’t even supposed to be there but I thought he was just pretending.”
“Oh, for Godsake David, that’s because he was under a spell,” Jeremy says angrily. I never thought that someone like Jeremy would be so pissed off at my stupidity. “David, you let your emotions get the best of you that you didn’t stop to think that maybe your mate was being controlled somehow.”
I sit down on the bed slowly holding the scarf that Elijah gave me as a Christmas gift. Okay, now I start to see everything coming together. It really wouldn’t have made sense that Max would call me over to some place just for me to see him fornicating with someone else.
I can’t believe I was actually thinking of leaving him, leaving New York. Elijah and I have worked hard to get here and I was just going to throw it away because I let my emotions take over me. I was going to drop out of school even when my parents worked hard to get into this country and make sure I got into the best schools and get an education so I could be somebody.
My parents have never forced me to do anything; the least I can do is return the favour by letting them see the fruits of their labour. I feel like such a fucking idiot. I guess Jeremy’s the smart one amongst the two of us and I’m just a stupid idiot.
“God, I feel like such a fool.” I place my hands on my face and I shake my head in disgust.
“Hey, it’s okay, you saw something that hurt you which is exactly what that mother fucker wanted. So don’t beat yourself up okay? You didn’t know. It seems like that dumb demon has gotten a reaction out of you.”
“But who do you think cast a spell on him? Dura or Miguel.”
“It could be either of them, but we have to go check in on Max to see if he’s okay; for all we know, he could be hurt by that spell.”
“Yeah, let me call him,” I say; I stand up and look for my phone. I find the phone and I unblock Max then I dial his number as quickly as possible. It keeps going straight to voicemail.
“He’s not answering. Why isn’t he answering?”
“Then we have to get to him fast.”
Jeremy and I make a run for it, we head out of the house to go see if Max is okay, and I hope he is because I don’t know what I’d do with myself if he isn’t.
Maxwell
I place my head on Joshua’s lap as he brushes my hair with his hand. I spill out my guts to him, tell him that David is the love of my life, and I would do anything for him, and I would never cheat on him on purpose.
I tell him that he’s the one for me and I love him with all my heart. I would never hurt him ever. I don’t know why I find myself hurting him unintentionally. I really don’t. It’s almost like I have no control over my emotions or my thoughts and I keep doing stupid shit.
“I don’t know what’s wrong with me,” I say to my best friend.
“It’s okay, it’s okay dear. All you need is peace, peace is what you need to keep you sane. That is all that you need darling. It’s going to be okay. You won’t see David again.”
“But I don’t want to not see him again. I want to see him again he’s my mate, the love of my life.” I say while my head stays on his lap. The way he caresses my hair is so soothing, like I’m receiving a massage from a highly qualified masseuse. Joshua has never done this for me before, and he should never stop because if he stops, then I can see all my problems coming back to me.
“Don’t worry dear, I’m right here. I’m here for you,” he says and I love that I have a friend that I can count on.
But then again something feels strange. Something is telling me that this is not my best friend. And that is when I truly see my best friend.
I don’t know how to explain it but it’s like I’m seeing into his life. It’s nighttime, and he’s just walked out of the stadium with his teammates; I don’t know why he’s not going home with his teammates. Why the fuck isn’t he going home with his teammates? I want to scream at him to go home with them but it’s too late.
The demon Dura has gotten to him and he’s killing him. I watch as blood gushes out of Joshua’s mouth.
No! He’s dying; I watch as my best friend gets killed; I can’t say anything, and I can’t even move. He’s dying.
Joshua!
I raise my head from the impostor's lap and I face him.
“You are not my best friend. Who the fuck are you?”
The impostor has a creepy smile on his face and then he starts to laugh manically.
